That's already done way back in all Indian languages, by lots of poets who have re-written in original, all works of Vyasa, Valmiki maharishis...viz., Tulsidas, Kamba, Molla, Pampa etc.
No one has to re-invent the wheel. It's already done. You just eat, what's already cooked, and understand with the help of learned people in the group.
The most important thing is these 18 maha puranas, if you read and understand them is the essence of Vedas.
So Valmiki and Vyasa maharishis have already done the spade work much earlier-aeons, for the benefit of mankind. And then later, all the kavis /poets of yesteryears have all produced authentic original works in almost all Indian languages.

How the hindutva fanatics have depicted Hanuman as an angry god in car stickers! And ram as solely a warrior god, robbing him of his layered personality. My mother who is 97 and fighting for her life used to do valmiki ramayam parayanam, meaning reading the slokas sargam by sargam all her life, would recite with tears flowing. We all grew up with this idea of a feminine god,who would forgive every single and bless them and protect them. I al appalled by their interpretation of rama and Hanuman.

Lively. Translating the rhyming words of Calista in English. Vikram needs to write more prose like the biography of his dentist uncle. It was heart breaking how hos fracture of hand was not treated while he was on duty on a war front in spite of his insistence and how the amputation caused by this negligence by English drs was nor done properly and caused him pain all his life, though he again was practicing dentistry. The English world described in this book is second rate and far below the German standards, where his uncle studied his dentistry.
