As a Norwegian i have to say she has been my favorite racer the last 4-5 years, so tired of the Norwegians winning everything so i decided to find somone else to root for and ended up choosing her. So glad i did, will never forget screaming at the tv during the Olympic teamsprint when she won gold all my m8s being looking at me like i just killed a man haha.
Wow, I had the exact same experience. Got into XC skiing after seeing Johaug winning the 30 km in 2011, but then it started getting tiresome, especially after Kowalczyk's form dropped. Jessie winning the team sprint with Kikkan Randall after breaking her pole, that was the turning point. That enormous fighting spirit just had me hooked. She was super close to winning the World Cup back in 2018, and only Bjørgen catching up to her at the very end of the 30 km in Holmenkollen kept her from winning that prestigious race. And yeah, I was screaming my lungs out during that Olympic team sprint. Both because of Jessie and Kikkan, but also because of how big an Olympic gold medal is for the USA and US cross country skiing. It's night and day between an Olympic gold and a World Championship gold, whereas in Norway those are much closer in stature. I mean, Northug's 50 km gold in Vancouver vs. the 50 km gold in Falun? I think most fans will at least rate those fairly equally, and to me the latter is the greatest achievement. So while Americans may not pay much attention to what Jessie is doing these days, where she's won the Tour de Ski, beaten Therese Johaug in an individual distance race, and is well on her way to winning the overall World Cup, us fans are definitely watching each race with excitement and glee. It's been a season out of the ordinary, and it's been downright strange to see races where countries like Norway, Sweden and Finland haven't participated, but at the same time it's been refreshing. I think most avid viewers who love the sport itself, and not just when Norway's winning, will find lots to appreciate about the 2020/2021 season. I know I'm loving it. Fingers crossed for Oberstdorf!
Even though I enjoy Norway winning in the tracks, I really love that other countries do well also. Especially when a talented and humble person like Higgins does it so well. Today she came in second after her idol Kalla from Sweden and Higgins actually won Tour De Ski alltoghether. XC skiing might not be a big sport in the US, but in Scandinavia, skiing is probably the most important sport there is. Every talented ski athlete here in Norway is treated like heroes, and I'm sure Diggins would be a hero too if she was Scandinavian. So, to all Americans, cherish this girl and praise what she actually has accomplished. Best of luck in the future! :)

Jonas Karlsson is known to be a hater of all things Norwegian, being Swedish he's obliged to dislike Norwegian skiers. As we know the Norskies been winning pretty much everything for decades and Mr. Karlsson is bitter about that, so he's been throwing alot of negative vibes. Anyways, I'm Danish/French so I've been observing this from a distance, I have no dog in that fight, but it's safe to say that the Swedes carry alot of bitterness towards the Norwegians. Mr Karlsson even called the Norwegian skier Petter Northug a pig on live air.
Look if you're totally clueless about a subject it's often smarter not to let that cluelessness show. You clearly don't have any insight into the rivalry and relationship between Sweden and Norway when it comes to winter sport, so here comes a swedish perspective. Swedes are generally neither hateful nor bitter towards norwegians. On the contrary there's is a lot of respect and admiration for how excellent they are when it comes to skiing. And with that admiration comes a fierce determination to beat them. Not only because they have cemented their postion as the best in the world, but also because they are our brothers and sisters. There's not a worse person in the world to lose to than a sibling. That doesn't mean you hate your sibling, quite the opposite actually. The same can be said about the swedes and the finns when it comes to hockey. Where Sweden was dominant for many many years but where the finns really have turned the tables in recent years. Swedes are not bitter towards Finland for making such rapid progress that they now have surpassed Sweden when it comes to international results in recent years. It does however reinforce the determination to beat Finland because we respect their skill. There's no room for bitterness and hate when it comes to fair competition on fair terms. Any such feelings are motivated by something else, like political views or people's own personal failures and insecurities. Something else that really has nothing to do with the current competition. And the same could have been said when it comes to Denmark and Sweden and football, if either of the nations had been any good at it. Like they where 30 years ago. Now it's like a competion in the sandbox where two kids compete at who can eat the most sand, while all the other kids are doing handstands on the monkey bars. Jonas Karlsson is not a hater of all things norwegian. He did however have a problem with Northug's unsportsmanlike behaviour, as he percieved it. Which in his eyes was in violation of the mutual respect that should exist between rivaling siblings and competing nations, which cheapens the competition as a whole. In my eyes they are both two people with gigantic egoes that craves attention. Those kind of people tend to clash. I do however recall Karlsson being concerned by the fact that Norway was becoming far too dominant in the sport, which in the long run could mean that other nations would lose interest and that cross-country skiing would slowly die out. But that's not the same thing as being anti-Norway. It just means that he loves the sport and wants to see it thrive with as many top competing nations as possible, just like in biathlon at the moment. A sentiment that I know even a lot of norwegians share, competition is healthy and makes winning that much more special. I've always had a soft spot for Northug though since he reminds me of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There is something refreshing and quintessentially un-swedish with cocky athletes who back up their words and bravado with strong actions, even if can be a bit too much of a good thing from time to time. As a rule of thumb I like cockiness and a strong belief in one's own abilities, but draw the line at ridiculing the opposition and borderline bullying. From my viewpoint and my own subjectively drawn line Northug went over the line a couple of times in his career when he kicked the swedes when they were already beaten and he already had asserted his dominance as the top dog. That's the reason Karlsson called him a pig in the heat of the moment. I've never really been a fan of Karlsson though. I respect his work well enough, but I have this feeling that I wouldn't like him in person even though I don't know him. He just seems a bit full of himself. Wow, this became and lot longer than I had planned but sibling rivalry is a complicated matter after all :-) See you behind the TV-screens at the next world cup fellow norwegians and finns.
