One day I listened to a record where Paolo Pandolfo performed a beautiful baroque composition on the gamba - with a vibrating sensitivity and an irresistibly natural flowing virtuosity. From the admiration and enthusiasm for the composition, Pandolfo's playing and interpretation, and also the attractive and sensitive gamba as an instrument, the "Arpeggiata" for the piano just had to be created. To me, the music sounds as if it were dressed in a baroque patterned suit, wrapped around with a billowing cloak of Romanticism.
