Trying to define conciousness is like trying to define Love! By giving it a definition, you limit it! Thereby making it what it is NOT!

Conscience came about when the soul was created. We are all spirits, created with a soul and a personality. We as spirits create our own Essence. The essence of the being comes from the soul. The soul is a repository of all of our lifetimes. The only thing that we hold in it is our creativity and our ability to use it to heal from trauma. We release the pain from the trauma, it leaves the soul. That traumatic pain will still sometimes remain in the personality, but the soul does not hold it and will heal you from it. Also, the soul is Love. It does not hold the same things that the personality holds or has. The soul is located behind the heart within the spirit. That is why your heart always tells you to do something out of love/compassion, hence heartfelt.

René Descartes declared, "cogito, ergo sum" ("I think, therefore I am"). Jerry Jarvis, the late leader of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation movement in the U.S., thought Descartes got it wrong. Jarvis declared, "I am, therefore I think. Don't put Descartes before the source."
Jarvis was doing more than flipping Descartes' deductive reasoning to inductive reasoning with this pun. He was flipping the thinking of the scientists and general public from the primacy of the physical, giving rise to thinking, and eventually to consciousness. Like Dr. Hoffman, Jarvis and Maharishi think they got it backwards -- it is consciousness that gives rise to thought and then to action and the physical, or at least to the concept of physicality.

It seems to be ALL about "WHAT WE ARE "NOT" AWARE OF IN THIS PRESENT MOMENT". (to have the kind of "experience" that we have.)
Away back in the 70s the one and only time that I took LSD, along with a buddy of mine. We were discussing what is the Universe and how did it come into existence. And out of the blue I had a sudden "realization", which is kind of like "a knowing being forced onto you" and that realization or knowing was "I am God".
And the startling thing about it was the question of "why did I not know this before"??, it seems so obvious now. But then the next "realization" that followed that is "I AM ALL ALONE", there is only me, and no other. That caused an IMMENSE AND OVERWHELMING FEELING OF LONELINESS.
That memory and echo of "lonely feeling" stayed with me for about 6 months. The constant question being "how do I get rid of that feeling of loneliness?" The answer was "you have to forget that you are God, and that there is only you" and get involved in the "game of the many" or the "game of creation" and FORGET that it is you yourself who is creating it. Get involved in the Maya, until you forget that it is only you. The I AM, THAT I AM.
This statement by Buddha has meaning on many levels: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. WHAT WE THINK WE BECOME.”
Had the exact same experience as a kid. 😮 Came to the same conclusion.
Consciousness is one, but it is possible for a person who was connected to this one consciousness to create a temporary, parallel consciousness as a result of his continuous interaction outside the scope of this one consciousness, thus creating an alternative illusion that has nothing to do with the reality of what is actually happening.

I’d say “consciousness” is not “what it feels like”. Rather it’s the “fact” that you are experiencing. What “it feels like” is interpretation, not consciousness. With other words consciousness is awareness. Or awareness of being aware. Now.. can you be aware of being aware without being aware of anything in particular “outside” (like the taste of vanilla) ? Many/some spiritual traditions claims exactly that.
What a wonderful dialogue. Great questions for Dr. Hoffman. Regarding the inciteful question, Why 3D? Did we agree on that number? I wonder if there are billions of us or just one being? Rhetorical at this stage butI think there is just one of us.
Advaita is a path of awakening awareness to find our original form.. It means "Not two" and brings its' successful participants to a direct experience of one universal conscious awareness, only seemingly divided, to allow this play of life... Which it is projecting...

Yes it is just one. Consciousness is an information system and it's able to partition it'self into many smaller "walled off" units of awareness with their own experience. An information systems purpose is to lower entropy (create more information) in order to "stay alive". Creating more separate units of consciousness is logically nessisary to create more opportunity and possibilities to lower entropy. Yes it's the same consciousness but the many units are separated but obviously created using the same consciousness
Thank you for continuing to explore this immense subject. Dr. Hoffman is one of my favorite scientific explorers. I am beginning to have a basic understanding of the concepts he is discussing, now what can we do with it? I'm open to any input here.

It is not possible to stop aspects of nature from being tuned to their own reality.. You may try to 'convince' them that they are NOT aspects of reality, but that does not change the reality, only the 'beliefs' about it..

By definition, the word "reality" is referring to whatever IS real. It might not be what we THINK it is, but whatever it REALLY is, it's REAL.
It is most probable that this reality is a form of construct ( not necessary digital) , as the digital metaverse will be on the 7th day. We collectively may be the authors of this reality, the designed and developers. The metaverse is a duplication of sorts and the best comparison for now.

That was enlightening, especially your last question and answer..I think much of the direction that the field might move in is revealed in Near Death Experiences that abound on the web of which I have recently taken a deep dive.(more like dipped in my little toe) I think this is true, because those NDE's have transcended space and time.

37:48: The discussion of scientific ideas depends on the precise definition of words, or, in other words, an agreement between participants in the discussion of what concept a word signifies. In this context, what is the scientific definition of the word "truth"? In other words, in the context of the idea you're expressing, Dr. Hoffman, what is meant when you utter the word truth here? The implication of this whole discussion is that the ultimate goal of science is to finally discover ultimate truth. The tricky part here, though, is defining exactly what that word means, precisely and repeatably and in a way that can be used to predict everything else (since we are, in fact, looking for that which is ultimate - which explains all - explanation being a function of language). The problem is that science itself, including all the concepts we agree on, are all products of a human consciousness that seeks to define it. In other words, all science, all religion, all "TRUTH" depends on a pre-existent human consciousness. The very concept of truth is a human contruct. Recurse much?
All of this eventually boils down to humanity attempting to develop language that enables it to annunciate to itself what it already knows but cannot articulate. Religion (which is a superset that includes all philosophy, which itself includes all science) is merely our attempt to explain to each other - using language - what we, each of us, already knows, in a way that is fundamental and therefore beyond language. Our inability to do this is what makes us feel so separate from each other. Our desire to do this is what drives us: our desire to connect to our counterparts in creation, and to connect to our creator, whether we believe in such an entity or not.
I have no idea how to articulate my point. And that's the point.
It's interesting that, only now, science is discovering that its digital attempts to describe what religion calls creation is coming to sound more and more like what religion has described for thousands of years, but in analog, as opposed to digital, language.
Is he also stating fitness payoffs explain evolution? In other words, why didn't everything remain a single cell organism if fitness payoffs were working? Was evolving a means to accessing other fitness payoffs because resources were scarce?

Good questions, particularly "Where does Consciousness come from" Ans.: Consciousness "In-Itself" is eternally preexisting and all-pervasive, but not merely "in" things. All things in the universe are expressions of Consciousness, but this Knowledge is obscured by false identification of the true nature of existence, (Maya). To cut through the Maya, no problem. We can listen to a mantra from the Rig Veda: "Mahamritunjaya mantra - Sacred Sounds Choir", for 5 min per day for two weeks. In short order you will tap into the Ein Sof mentioned in the Zohar. (Sat-Chit-Ananda), Aristotle's "Being-In-Itself", the One of Plotinus, the Tao.
Regardless how one defines reality, it's all past tense in the making....and past tense doesn't esist
There is a single consciousness, and we are the temporal delusions of that consciousness. It believes in its existence through Darwinian measures, therefore that’s the only means it has to perceive itself. Each person is simply a nerve center for that consciousness. This consciousness is only flirting with the idea of infinity. It may yet accept that it is infinite, at which point perceived reality will change. For what we know, this could all be true.
People get more immersed in video games than what we call reality. If you could plug a brain into a video game you wouldn't know it wasn't "reality". Really isn't that far fetched of an idea.

If reality is zero, therefore one is not real. We have nothing in the zero dimension and a point in the first dimension. So many points are rendered as shapes in higher dimensions compared to later cubes. Many hidden reality icons. Zero is meaningless unless a number, if reality is meaningless zero, our life is unreal, there are many icons. The soul and the afterlife or immortality from nothingness or zero or outer spacetime are meaningless and therefore forbidden. Hallucinates our senses and triggers irrelevant assumptions.
I think using spiritual is more precise than religious. There is nothing religious about consciousness.

Reality was already out there, WE came later & the fitness payoff would work to keep us alive & prosper based on the laws of Reality. 16:05 I actually have a comment for this. Evolution doesn't say the next offspring "has" to be better than its predecessor. Offsprings are randomly better or worse or indifferent from their predecessors, humans included. Those who are worse off, like Romeo and Juliet killing themselves in the name of love, die, and so they do not reproduce. Those who reproduced then give birth to new offspring who once again are randomly better, worse or indifferent - some couples who did not kill themselves in in the name of love, could indeed give birth to another Romeo or Juliet. Humans are not "off" in terms of evolution. The theory notes that mutations are random, for better or for worse or for nothing. Natural selection is only concerned with the binary question of whether you reproduced or not. And offspring with mutations that increase their fitness level tend to reproduce more. But that doesn't mean offspring with mutations that decrease their fitness don't exist. They do. They're just less likely to reproduce themselves. But they do exist. You can even have two offspring, one with better fitness and one with worse fitness, from the same set of parents. One sibling has a higher chance of reproducing. But the other sibling still exists regardless of whether they reproduce or not. Mutations are random. Selection goes through that randomness, and the ones who are subject to this selection are not the offspring, but the parents themselves. Those who reproduced are the selected ones. Their offspring are only random variations of themselves, and a whole other selection awaits for them as well - those who reproduce are selected, and those who are produced carry random mutations for better, for worse, or for nothing.

It's real..or not real are ideas. For sure reality.. is just not the way it is being percieved.. Its just that the Subject-object dichotomy is an illusion. Let me stirr some questions to probe deep investigation into Reality... Is God/Creator an object in space? If God is an object in space... wouldn't Space be the medium that created the 'Creator'? If there is only one 'substance/medium' .. how it is possible to have many things springing from it? For many things to spring from it, the 'substance' will need an additonal medium (such as space for an analogy)... Hope this will break the illusion of me-others... for those who can.

There could be a "what if" variable affixed to any an every question, description or depiction of any object(s) which simultaneously exist in, and share the same vibrational frequencies, while occupying the same dimensional fabric of space. Whether it's "real" or "perceived" in either "one" or "multiple" imaginations, dreams, mathematics, ideas, scenarios, possiblities, theories, beliefs, etc, etc. An analogy might be to say, that at the bottom of a pool of water there is no air, and in contrast say, that on top of a hilltop in open air, there is no water. This is proved to be true that in one environment water is devoid of air, and in the other environment, air is devoid of water, but it would also be untrue to say that one or both do not exist. They still both really "exist" as individual entities, each "one" without the knowledge or need for the existence of the other, but nonetheless they both exist. Therefore one could alter this "existing"' environment by adding complexity to one, or both, the pool of water or the airy hilltop, by introducing another completely seperate individual "entity" such as temperature. In turn this could alter the "existence" of the water and the air, either seperately, or simultaneously, and/or facilitate the existence, "consciously" or "unconsciously" of an entirely new variable such as waves or wind...

It does not make a difference whether the physical world is simulated by an external entity "simulator" or not. If it is simulated then the result of each physical experiment we perform is also simulated and therefore there is no experiment that can tell whether the physical world is simulated or not. It is a dead end regarding the capabilities of science. What we can say is that in a model of physics which is based on events was wave functions and not on particles as wave functions, there must be a universal deterministic reference object and since there is not determinism in the observed Nature, such a reference is metaphysical.

If a model is based on events as wave functions and not on particles as wave functions the the probability of an event sums up to 1 on an observer manifold. Such ideas are not new and can be seen in the work of H.S. Snyder from 1947. See Snyder's spacetime. The problem with Snyder's approach and other modern approaches is that they are algebraic (e.g. based on non commutative relations) rather than geometric. Geometry, as my professor Nathan Rosen from EPR, ER always said is inherent to Nature. The approach today is to try to show spacetime is emergent from particles and not the other way around. Dr. Sam Vaknin in 1982 reached the conclusion that time is fundamental to physics and not particles.

The singular word 'reality' is insufficient. Experienced and phenomenal reality generated by the observer seems to be meant by Donald's use of the word. Whereas the word 'truth' is used by him for reality other than " the user interface" product ( I have been calling Donald's 'user interface' 'Image reality' and his 'icons' -'observation products'). Not only are there the 'user interface' products, there is the 'other side' of the interface where sensors and sense organs receive inputs; Stimuli such as photons,, pressure waves, air borne and dissolved chemicals. Produced, reflected or emitted by source material existence. Consciousness may be just the experience itself, or foundational to production of experience. However that does not make it foundational to noumenal, source, Object reality independent of experience. Significantly we interface with potential sensory information ( stimuli) not with the material sources directly. This has implications for the understanding of time. Necessarily there is delay between production, emission or reflection of potential stimuli and receipt and production of experience using sensory information generated from using the inputs.

Hello it is 4:56 a.m. I'm in my bed I'm thinking of things in my head what if the meteor shower that killed the dinosaurs was it a mistake but met to destroy everything and not create I seen some things that I can't explain that it feels like it's the matrix I seen the sun flash before I seen clouds in the sky that disappeared quickly and they were clouds not to smoke I felt something touching me in my bed my place isn't haunted but it felt like something and then my stomach was feeling odd
Also some of these people on TV and things how do I know if they're real or not I never seen them in real life how do I know they exist or is this part of the code. Are you real or is this fake video I want to know if you're real I would like to meet you in person
You could spend the rest of your life toiling back and forth wondering that, only to reach the end of your life and think to yourself "Well damn, did all that wondering ever bring me any enlightenment, or make me any better, any happier? What a waste of time and life."
Maybe this life is "really real" or maybe it's only "fake real", a dream within a dream. But either way, it's all we have at the present, so we might as well embrace it and make the best of it, keeping an open mind for if we someday learn otherwise.
But there's no sense falling down the neverending rabbit hole of "What if this is all fake" -- ultimately there is never any way to truly know, and so all we can do is go forward and make the best of it.

Human reality is only virtual reality. The realm of nature is the absolute truth. And It is absolutely nothing. There are just objects lying around without names and meanings.

Self-concept uses consciousness type one to recognize the inner and outer world but there is better definition. It's governed by science and only science but very sophisticated. it works in the fundamental building blocks of existence itself. Humans have to focus on consciousness type one that's more than enough to master science. the current mathematics, physics, ... are incomplete and include many mistakes too, it will take time to revise and improve science, that time humans can think seriously to understand consciousness type one. In consciousness type one self-concept uses right side of the brain to resemble itself and the left side for logical judgment, control, but actually who is in more control is the right side, there is a strong interactions between who uses both is the same one, that is the secret of that dialog in the brain, it's more complicated than that of course but it is just to concise. there was more details about space-time, Gravity, entanglement, superposition, consciousness, awareness, concept of infinity, numbers,...... He is certainly a difficult man to deal with, but you two should look at Ken Wheeler's youtube channel. He is an "expert" on field theory and magnetism. He has a very different view of the nature of the universe than most "physicists" and translates ancient Pali the language of Theravāda Buddhism.

My new understandings of what many call 'God' - resulting from some of the extraordinary ongoing after-effects relating to my NDE...
Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what some scientists are now referring to as the unified field of consciousnesses. In other words, it’s the essence of all existence and non-existence - the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the actual creator of everything that exists now, ever existed in the past, or will exist in the future - right down to the minutest particles of dust - each being an individual ripple or wave. The big difference between chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middleman’ to connect us to our state of inner enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves. That’s because chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo allows us to tap directly into our enlightened state by way of this self-produced sound vibration. ‘Who or What Is God?’ If we compare the concept of God being a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to the teachings of Nichiren, it makes more sense to me that the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people perceive to be God, is the fantastic state of enlightenment that exists within each of us. Some say that God is an entity that’s beyond physical matter - I think that the vast amount of information continuously being conveyed via electromagnetic waves in today’s world gives us proof of how an invisible state of God could indeed exist. For example, it’s now widely known that specific data relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects - including an instant global awareness of something or a mass emotional reaction. It’s also common knowledge that these invisible waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars - none of which is possible without a receiver to decode the information that’s being transmitted. Without the receiver, the data would remain impotent. In a very similar way, we need to have our own ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our own life, all other life and what everything else in existence is. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach the core of our enlightenment and keep it switched on. That’s because Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what scientists now refer to as the unified field of consciousnesses. To break it down - Myoho represents the Law of manifestation and latency (Nature) and consists of two alternating states. For example, the state of Myo is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists - including our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them - our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re dormant - our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma - and more importantly, our enlightenment. The other state, ho, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes evident to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory - whenever we experience or express our emotions - or whenever a good or bad cause manifests as an effect from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it merely means that it’s come out of the state of Myo (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ho (manifestation). It’s the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing. The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence. The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists. Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. And it doesn’t matter how big or small, famous or trivial anything or anyone may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of the Laws ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ - the basis of the four fundamental forces, and if they didn’t function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. That’s because all forms of existence, including the seasons, day, night, birth, death and so on, are moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation - rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two fundamental states of Myo and ho in absolute accordance with Renge - and by way of Kyo. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents. Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’. On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances - turn them into positive ones - or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication. For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything. NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us. I'm not falling for any of this bullshit. It's neat though. I used to kind of think I was a bit mad for feeling this way. I have always instinctually felt that nothing is as it seems. Now I know I'm just really smart! I also suspect that a large percentage, if not all other people are not even "real". Hell, I'm pretty convinced that at least 50% of all humans are low function NPCs in the most literal sense.
