- Restoration of an old dirty and rusty carpenter's hatchet. I tried very hard to restore it as much as possible, perhaps this is not his primeval look, but I am referring to restorations a bit differently. There I try to show all steps involved in this video.

Awesome work... but can you tell me what substance did you use after the polishing the steel? Because i do the same and put the blade in vineger (i do not have any substance) and after some time the rust reappear. Sorry for my english.
rust always comeback, if you can removes rusty stains permanently, you're hero
Đình Giang Nguyễn yeah but in my case rust comes back after, like, one week and its really annoying.
after you etching with vinegar or other acid, you must put some oil. oil absorbed into oxide and protects against rust.
Koss thank you my good sir, now i can't wait to go in my little workshop and do some work. Thank you for your very inspirational videos.
The axe head was dipped in ferric chloride. I have de rusted 2 axe heads this week using vinegar. After being in vinegar for 2 days, i washed them with warm water, dried them with a towel. Then placed them by a fire to dry properly. After a few hours while the metal was still warm, i put some wax on them. The heat helps the wax soak into the metal, oil will do the same job. :)
Bonus points for reusing the handle!
Buddy from work gave me his grandfathers old carpenters hatchet for restoration. Your video gave me some ideas, thanks!
I always love these videos. They are so satisfying
kelby mcfadden him and make n’ create are nice.

Koss jesteś mistrzem. Piękna robota.
Really great job redefining the lines of that axe definitely takes a good eye to do it so cleanly!

Great restoration! I hate it when people do mirror polishes on axes, they just get scratched and ugly so quick. I love the axe finish and handle. Good job!
Turned out very nice 👍 good job buddy. I do things like that on my channel. Restoration axes, knive making, forging stuff. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Man, I love the temper line you brought out! Wasn't expecting that, had a suspicion of it having an inlaid cutting steel, but it looks much more like a temper line. Good job!
very nice
Impeccable work as always, Koss. I appreciate the attention to detail and your fine handwork! Great restoration!!

I love the look of this. I’m curious what you dipped it in to get that color.
Looks Great!! Thumbs Up!!!
Very good job !
SUPER!!!
Beautiful job
Good restoration video, I like it.
regularly dip an hardened edge into water when sanding it to stop it from loosing it's hardness. You could anneal it by accident.
Bro plz make more I love ur stuff and have watched all ur videos
Excellent work
Looking very good. An after thought is that it would have been cool if you did a bit of heat treating to bring out that temper line when you etch it.
Another brilliant restoration job.... well done...

Хороший труд!
Perfect!!!
At about the 7:15 mark, you dipped the head, and it came out blackened. What was that substance, and was the head heated prior to the dip, or after?
Nice Haxe
love this project!
P.S. we get it not everyone can sharpen like you showoff
The dislikes are jealous lumberjacks
That’s a peach!
Tu a des mains en or et l'ame d'un Celtic...
cool
Как же хорошо, когда есть гриндер в жизни.... Единственное не понял намазывание кисточкой на обухе. Это чем и зачем?
Which kind of oil do you use for finishing the handle?
!Wow¡ That´s a axe tomahawk
What is the dark stain you dipped the head in?

Any smaller alternative to a belt grinder? I don't have spave for one and creating an even surface with a nice grain is simply impossible with an angle grinder :(
You might try a hand held belt sander. Ive been using one because i already had it and havent decided yet if i want to invest in a large one. Its not the most convenient, but it does the job (though it takes longer) doesnt take up much space, and is easy to store away when not in use
@@falconeer99 I actually came across some cheap table belt grinders. They're really small so i'll probably get one of those.
But when using a handheld belt grinder you can sort of use it like a big one by carefully fixing it into a wooden vise, might make it easier
Есть такая игра найди 1-но отличие))
всё на английском а на кнопке гриндера пуск написано)
Was that axe forged? It kind of looked like it was a cheap cast steel one but im not sure. Even so that was a great restoration and video!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I would have bought it from you with no work done to it just to save it's patina.
Good job,but the temper(?)

are you certain it is a carpenters axe/hatchet as they were flat one side and made in left and right hand ,a RH carpenter could not use a LH one and ditto the LH user with a RH one, they were used to trim down timber to straighten ectra and did not have a hammer headAs an apprentice Joiner some 65 years ago in my first year was always threatened to be sent out with the tomy hawk merchants {carpenters} if ever made a mistake with joints and id have one in my tool box for years till stolen IT was a RH one
Yo, remove the rust over night with vinegar first, and then you will not run down your belts for your belt sander removing rust.
Jesús los ama de verdad y el ya viene busquenle
I don't know why you didn't just sharpen and oil this?
Because he wanted to destroy it and not restore it.
you prob. ruined the hardness of the edge.
Nice job destroying antique axe. This is not even close to restoration...
Restoration by removing material
Szerintem nem tesz hozzá semmit az eredeti állapothoz. Csak ki van fényesítve. Kár érte.
Very good job !
