    It's good to hear someone demo a bass with a clean sound and not distorted like most others do.
    Also we can actually hear what the bass sounds like with the way you play it. Not everyone wants a million notes a second!
    Love your videos. Very informative and entertaining.

    I know this is a fairly old video, but I would like to say something...
    ATTENTION BASS PLAYERS!
    Just because he is playing with a pick amd doesn't play it the way you play it, DOESN'T MATTER!
    What matters is how it sounds!
    And to be fair, his playing sounds pretty damn good to me 👍

      @@joshuavanscoyk9404 You will not regret spending around 10,000 dollars. It is far less. Just do it, what have you got to lose? Yeah, that other cheap bass is cool, too. And a second hand one could be better value for the same money. But maybe it just isn't. Whatever you do, it's okay. Buy it, play it, see if it works for you. If not, you can say, you have learned something, sell it and really, how much money would that set you back? Not that much, you will not lose all your money, will you?

    Jack Bruce of Cream played an EB-0 bass. He had two or three different models of Gibson EB basses that played: including, one with a “violin” body. Later in his career, Warwick made a fretless EB-0 type bass for him.

  • @BrettWolffCo
    @BrettWolffCo 6 лет назад +2

    I got an EB-0 for my first bass many years ago, and I still have it. They really are lovely.

  • @PaulMabley
    @PaulMabley 6 лет назад +39

    No one was more surprised than me when I went out one afternoon to maybe buy a new bass and I came home with the EB-0. I had always discounted it as being a pretty ugly beast but once I had a quick demo I was hooked and didn't even bother trialling the other guitar I had my eye on.
    It's comfortable, well balanced, and the SS neck is ideal for me as I have arthritis. The only downside is the glossy neck which I would much prefer as a satin finish (like the fantastic Squier Jaguar bass the Missus bought me for Xmas).
    The quality of entry-level guitars these days amazes me...I bought my first, a Squier Strat in 1989, and it was terrible! The body actually is made of plywood...I still have it in a cupboard, rusting away to nothingness like the Titanic. Bloody kids of today don't know they're born!!!

    • @dylanwillis1473

      Paul Mabley I fucking hated mine the bridge would always fall out when changing strings and the posts that set the action would always move out of whack. And the electronics were fucky. It's good you found a nice one though. I loved the sound of it when it worked though.

    The title is correct-None of these basses suck. But each has issues. 1) EastCoast-you hit the nail on the head-if you CAN afford a Fender jazz, why buy a copy, even if doesn't suck? 2) Ibanez-I detest a bit too much fret buzz. 3) Music Man-See 1). However I can more easily justify this one, as it is still a Music Man Stingray, just a downscale. I would equate to a Fender Squire.Whatever, I've never been a Music man fan. 4) Epiphone-There's something about the mid range I don't like in this one. 5) East Coast-nice. This would be my favorite for metal. Although, the difference between the neck and bridge pickups is small. I bet you have to roll the tone all the way down to get a significant difference between the neck and bridge pickups 6) Ibanez SR -considering everything, this is my favorite. nice look. versatile. great boost. reasonable price.

    Schecter makes some fantastic basses for affordable prices. They look cool as hell with the flame or quilted tops, sound awesome, and play well. My only niggle is that the battery for the active pre-amp (when so equipped) is behind the metal plate covering the electronics- so you have to deal with all those tiny freaking screws... Ibanez does that better with a separate cavity and a clip on cover.

    I bloody love short scale because my left wrist has weakened tendons and as a result i have a less mobile freting hand.

    Well done on showing the basses and not showing off your slapping nor twiddling about on the top strings. Keeping your slip of the tongue and other mistakes made it fun.

    The EB-O sounds even better with nylon tape strings==I had no longer available Guild tape wound strings on my long gone Gibson EB--O Jack Bruce played an EB-3 for all of his Cream albums

    Loving the West coast sounds, that music Man too. Would like to hear them all through a cheap amp like the 10 watt Marshall behind you, as that is what most of us will be using at home!

    Hey PMT! What bass guitars you'd recommend for someone with short fingers and/or a beginner? I've been highly interested in trying to play a bass guitar and am thinking of getting one (Sadly I can't from your store as you're on the other side of the world from me), but I have pretty short fingers that I worry will make it difficult.

      Just go to a music store and try out different basses. I'm sure you'll find one that suits you.

      The elitism is ridiculous. The amount of very famous songs that used a bass with pick playing in the studio is unreal

    Actually, the fretboard on the Gio is jatoba, an entirely different species than NZ pine. Jatoba is a hardwood; NZ is a softwood.
