- For those who didn’t watch football 20-25 years ago, have a look into how many players simply played on when receiving a blow. Paolo Maldini first receives a hit to his head, and is then fouled on a counter attacking chance. His reaction? To simply shrug it off and play on, as he understood that this was part of football. Just another trait to add to a long list of respectable characteristics for the legendary AC Milan icon.

My biggest compliment to Ramos is, that if Baresi had coordination issues and always missed the ball and/or attacker then he would look like Ramos when doing his quick interceptions.
Actually Pepe was better than Ramos.
I think he knew that he tackled hard like any good defender. When he got tackled hard it was just part of the business. Didn’t phase him. Maldini absolute legend.

@@Noxswain beckenbauer, like baresi, was a libero/sweeper, not fullback. baresi and maldini were better defender, but beckenbauer was much more skillful playmaker, passer and dribbler because he used to be cm and dm

He's not even close to Maldini
Ramos has played close to the same era, and during those years everyone was laughing at him. Later on he was a part of a much stronger Real team and his flaws were protected. He's never been on that level defensively. Terry Vidic etc were closer , but still, a step down from Maldini, Nesta, Baresi, Cannavaro. Even Ferrara and Costacurta were better defenders than Ramos and co.
Well there is a reason that before CR and Messi only a few player could play at the same level for so many years.
CR7 and Messi is lucky they didn't face against Maldini, Baresi, Zanetti, Bergomi, Stam, Pasarella, Beckenbauer, Nesta

If the exact same thing happened today, Maldini would be booked. Defenders get such a raw deal in today's game. All they can do is intercept or block. Whereas attackers almost always get the benefit of doubt and get a lot of protection. (I know Thuram was also a defender)
