"It wasn't time that did it." One of my most favorite lines from the show 😍
Absolutely!!
Ellie's scream to Joel right before Joel gets knocked out is so well acted, it really puts a lot of fear into her perspective but especially Joel's perspective.
I like that you can see Pedro trying to suppress his laughter before Bella even starts reading from the book.
-Too soon?
-No, it's topical.
I'm dead
Just like most of the human race!
Oh wait hold on...CLEAR....(WHAM)!....AHH there we go.. welcome back
This Joel is more vulnerable than in the game and I like it because it gives a better reason for him ‘saving’ her in the hospital
Interesting how he referenced his suicide attempt, and that's the actual reason why he doesn't hear well from his right side. His words when he vaguely explains his hearing loss to Ellie: "It was caused more from shooting," takes on a lot more of a chilling effect.
Oh shoot youre right i didnt even make that connection
I was excited a whole lot to see many scenes from the game being translated to television, especially the ranch argument scene with Joel and Ellie, but this was _the one scene_ that truly stuck with me as my favorite moment from the show. Such a great moment and a great way to show the love between these two characters.
This is the episode to submit to the Television Academy for Pedro Pascal. I kept going back and forth between this and episode 6 but this scene and Joel's dissociative episode while in the hospital are just amazing acting.
If he does win the Emmy, it will be because of this scene
Oh he will definitely win the Emmy! Almost everyone loved him on this show. There will be riots if he doesn't. lol. His talent combined with his current starpower cannot be denied..
He deserves every award there is for this scene and the scene with him and Tommy. His breakdown to Tommy causes me to break down in tears no matter how many times I watch it. An outstanding actor. In fact, several scenes brings me to tears, even when he calls Ellie baby girl in episode 8. I am obsessed with Joel and Ellie. I am constantly replaying part 1 and 2 of the game as well as binge watching the series. No other game or show has captured my interest and obsession as much as these.
I'm happy that him and Bella got Emmy nods! But I have a bad feeling they won't win unfortunately. I feel like Succession will be taking home all the awards on this one!
This is a great scene but I think is monologue with Tommy in Jackson really shows what he can do. "I'm failing in my sleep" 😭
The way Ellie tells the moon rocks joke is so adorable
Oh, I feel for Pedro having to speak about suicide. That’s got to hit way too close to home for him. 😢
why?
sadly his mother self deleted back in 2000@@drrobotnik44
@@danielwhittaker695 damn,that is awful
@@danielwhittaker695Don’t use stupid internet idioms to describe such a serious thing. You’re basically slapping the faces of anyone who has died by suicide or lost someone to it. So disrespectful and immature, I hate this generations kids.
@@beckee6282 The reason they're using a different word is because some websites will actually delete your comments if you use the word s-icide. RUclips, is actually one of them - the content creator can set a list of words you're not allowed to use. S-icide, m-rder, k-ll are commonly on that list. Not to mention these terms are sporadically banned by RUclips itself.
Maybe you should educate yourself on why someone might be acting the way they are, before you get so judgemental. Kinda ironic that you're preaching about empathy when you have so little of it.
3:37 Joel’s reaction lmao
“moon rocks taste better than earth rocks. WhEiy??” i love her
This scene was everything where he tells her she healed his wound and the fact when that gas bomb lands he covers her straight away protecting his little girl ❤ I don't wanna see season 2 because I can't bear to watch them fighting like please change it from the game I don't wanna see them fight
Season 2 isn't following the second game.
Season 2 is going to be 100% show only material.
Season 3 is going to TLOU2
"When I went to pull the trigger I-I flinched. Still don't know why."
Joel... that was Sarah
Very well said
😭
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
❤
Time doesn’t heal shit…love heals all
THEY ACTED THIS SO WELL
That acting at 2:32 burst out my emotion. Phenomenal acting.
My favourite scene❤
When it came to that "moon rock" joke, I thought the punchline was gonna be "Because they're out of this world."
I love the way Ellie looks at Joel when he says it wasn't time that did it. ❤
The "fans" who say they made Joel weak, I want to say one thing, the fact of continuing to live is hell for him and in all that rotten world he found something to fight for, you have no idea how strong you have to be to do what Joel did at this moment, but no idea.
AND THUS JOEL BEGINS HIS MASSACRE
"In all things considered it didn't work out to badly."
"We saw ourselves die TWICE!"
Nice Masterpiece Of Art
All that's missing now are the traingles above their heads.
people deserve movies and series like Resident Evil.
Its kind of crazy that the day before this episode came out i also (allegedly) shot and missed. Right in front of my ear and out the other side with the only vital thing being damaged my right eye.
Those dudes got no chill
I loved this show soooooooooo much ;(!
Having the finale episode at 45mins was crazy
Just me or is that the last place you want to stroll through casually?
Did he say that in the game? I dont remember that
No he didn’t.
@@loopgodjohansenyeah, the series is kind of its own thing
Wait. I must be dumb. I don’t know what the reason he was telling her all this was? Ellie interrupted him now I may never know. Can someone help me? 😂
From what i could gather Joel was about to commit suicide, the death of Sarah was too much for him, "i couldn't see the point anymore", but his grip flinched, and that small ounce of fear, that one second of hesitation for a guy who was more than ready to give up actually led to everything they went through, which was a nod to Joel's motto in the game.
"I struggled for a long time with survivin', and no matter what, you keep finding something to fight for"
Maybe the reason Joel was telling her all of that was more than just one thing. In his point of view, he didn't want Ellie to go through the pain of loss, of impunity and the guilt of being the only one alive while they watched their loved ones die in front them, and she felt she couldn't do a damn thing about it, not for Riley, Tess, Henry, Sam, Bill, Frank not even Sarah. This could his way of telling her that we all have that enemy inside, something broken that just can't be fixed, memories that we can't forget, things that can't be talked through and fears that take almost a lifetime to be conquered.
But it's worth remembering that Joel knew the "easy way out" wasn't really that easy, by committing suicide he would give up everything he still had left. He wanted Ellie to remember that "you can't save everyone, but that is not your fault, you did what you could and we tried, we must be strong and we gotta carry on".
Notice when Ellie tells Joel that "time heals all wounds", Joel looks at her and replies that "it wasn't time that did it".
Ellie was Joel's purpose, just like Frank was to Bill, just like Riley was to Ellie. Joel was right, as long as you have something to hang onto and fight for it, that is reason enough to endure and survive.
@@GrouchyMutt Thanks so much, Lu. Ok, I now understand that he was telling her about his failed suic*** attempt as a way of telling her that we all have traumas and something broken inside, "but we keep going and we keep finding something to fight for".
She interrupts him to say she knows why he is telling her all this (because "time heals all wounds?"). But she was wrong, that's not exactly what he meant. His real message was "we keep going, we don't give up, and we keep finding new things to live and fight for". (similar to what Riley said, right)
And yep, I gathered that he meant "it wasn't time, it was you" (or loving you, i'd say, because that's Joel finding a new purpose). I liked that :)
@@anatheodoro9596 A pleasure. Both resilience and love plays a major role in this series so i've seen.
Bill and Frank's suicide were an act of sacrificial self-preservation, not out of defeat but a victory, it was out of love for one another and for winning life and death together "I'm old, i'm satisfied. And you were my purpose"
Riley's last moments were an act of resistance but also one last act of acceptance, for both her love and to her fate, to Ellie "Whether it's two minutes, or two days, we don't give that up"
Tess' sacrifice was an act of protection, out of care and love, for Joel and Ellie "Save who you can save"
And at the very end, resilience plays it back, with Joel and Ellie, they both went through awful things, but also found closure through the connection of this trauma, which symbolizes that even at the very dead corner of the world, there's still a fling of life going on.

Wuss Joel < Actual character Joel
I loved this show, I loved this episode. But I just think "it wasn't time that did it" was little too on the nose or cheesy. I feel like the show didn't need to spell it out to me, it was already obvious. I know a lot of people loved this scene, I did too. If you disagree with me I respect that. But that line just didn't work for me.
There were a couple of these tid-bits in the episode that rubbed me the wrong way. Like Joel almost obsessively comparing Ellie to Sarah on their hike to Jackson, and Ellie seeming almost weirded out by it. Just as you said, it's a little too on-the-nose, and it also feels unnaturally pushy. In the game Joel also starts opening up about Sarah and clearly embraces Ellie as a daughter of kind, but once again it's not as pushy or on-the-nose.
It would be on-the-nose if it was said in monologue to the audience, but telling it to another character I mean... that's just admitting your feelings
@@stuffedsheepshead Dialogues can be on-the-nose too sometimes, even if it's just a character admitting their feelings. To me, that line felt a little too expository. Throughout the show, I felt like Joel and Ellie are not the kind of people who easily open up about their feelings, but rather they let it be known through actions or gestures, and not always saying the obvious. "It wasn't time that did it." was obvious. And Joel saying that out loud felt somewhat awkward to me. I feel like this scene could have worked better if it was given a little more time, with more use of silences and glances, which are extremely effective tools for writing "show, don't tell" type of dialogue. And the scene itself I think went by too fast. I loved this expansion of Joel's character, that after Sarah died, he tried to take his own life. It added another dimension to his character. But I think such an important aspect of his character and in turn, an important addition to the dynamic between Joel and Ellie did not get a fair amount of time to develop. I wish the scene was a little longer as it would have provided more time of the gravity of the scene to set in, instead of instantly showing them going back to reading jokes. To me, the scene felt a little unnatural, as if they were just saying the words and not meaning it. But this take is entirely subjective, and I understand if people disagree with me.
@@koustuvmajumdar119 choke choke bhavnar adan pradan toh hoyeche enough time er jonno bhai Joel er ota Boler por infact ami Kithu behind the scenes dekhchilam er seta onujayi Joel er eta Boler por Ellie Joel er kadhe matha rakhe but otao ero basi obvious hoye jeto Tai instead of Ellie resting her head on Joel's shoulders they decided go with that eye exchange er jokes kano podte suru kore chilo oi je bolle Joel er Ellie basi emotional hoyna tai jate bhenge na pore tai and yeah Joel comparing Ellie with Sarah was literally uncanny and unnecessary
I honestly agree, it felt quite odd too considering the show wasn't too on the nose beforehand such as Joel just straight up saying "no" when Ellie asked of they should help the "injured" raider, obviously implying that he's very aware of an upcoming ambush. Show was great overall but my main issue with the final episode was that it felt pretty short compared to the others. By the time Anna's part was done, there was only half an hour of the season finale to go and that's probably due to lower stakes. In the game they fought off zombies in a tunnel and almost drowned leading up to thier capture but in the show, they just get smoke bombed after this scene and knocked out within seconds. I personally would've loved to see Joel and Ellie taking on zombies with thier much improved relationshop and overall more zombies in the show but it makes sense that there are less zombies around because 20 years later, I'm assuming zombies are gonna be more spread out rather then all in one general area. The final shootout scene in the show was done flawlessly in my opinion, only criticism is I would've liked it to be a little longer but still perfectly conveys Joel giving everything he has in him to save his surrogate daughter.
How do you miss a shot from point blank. Shitty writing. “I flinched” 😊
People actually do that from time to time
her face ruined this
notice how the part where a man discloses his willingness to end it all is the least watched area of this video? It's almost like men are forced to have a mindset that is unwatchable in it's truest times. Ladies...maybe consider this fact??
Not much bad writing on this show, but her throwing out "time heals all wounds" in response to his daughters death was cringe inducing.
Or just shows that no. It didn't heal the wounds.
The point is that "time heals all wounds" is a cliche that isn't true for Joel. She thinks he's teaching her a dumb parental lesson, but he's not. Its pretty well written
Because time did not heal the words - People does. Ellie heal his wounds and they both know it.
The writers are aware it's a cliche line, which is why the teenager is the one saying it, and Joel corrects her by implying she was the one that "healed his wounds"
r/whoosh
Worst Ellie they could have picked. My God, she's so obnoxious.
