This show inspired me to launch a medical career in pediatric pulmonary medicine, from which I retired last year after 30 years. It was inspiring, wistful, and challenging, and to this day I can’t hear that theme without a lump in my throat.
That is awesome. I was in residence at university and our floor had a bunch of second year med students. A fond memory sitting around in the common room with them watching the show and hearing them yack back and forth about possible diagnosis! It truly was inspirational. And agreed about the theme.
I noticed a Unknown Denzel Washington in it, before he went onto have great success on the big-screen. Actor William Daniels career pit like John forsythe form Dynasty. William Daniels was the voice over as knitt in Knight rider and and Actor on St. Elsewhere.
And once upon a time, Boston's pride and joy. Joseph P Kennedy Sr pulled a few strings to get then 2 1/2 year old John F Kennedy admitted to Boston City Hospital when he came down with scarlet fever.
At that time in the mid 1980s, AIDS was a very timely topic and just coming to the medical forefront. I worked in a teaching hospital library during that period and I remember a doctor rushing in one evening before 10 p.m. close to get out material on AIDS. He goes to me with a little laugh, "I have to teach this tomorrow morning!" It was a pretty cutting-edge send-off for Harmon.
Interesting tidbits: Bonnie was meant to only show up in 1-2 eps, got a big break. Bruce Greenwood plays a doctor here and in a new doc show 2017-18 season. Is it the INTERN? Too bad next to this show it is lunchmeat.
0:47 Howie: I have this concept for a game show. There's going to be 26 hot women holding briefcases. In those briefcases will be random dollar amounts from one cent to one million. A contestant will pick one of the 26, then hope the other 25 don't have a million., What do you think?
Something I've just now begun to wonder-- do you think that you could have seen Karl Malden as a doctor on St. Elsewhere on NBC (perhaps Auschlander), being as his successful Streets of San Francisco series on ABC (where he was Lt. Mike Stone of the SFPD) ended 5 years before St. Elsewhere started on NBC?

I was doing an IM residency at the same time and echo your thoughts
Great stuff. It’s a different world, and I’m glad we began when we did.

ITS NOT REAL SO WHEN DID REALITY HIT
I watched this show while I was in nursing school. It inspired me to keep going. Finished in 1988 at 2pm.
My parents used to watch this on Channel 4 here in England. It was only about 12 months behind the US schedule I think.
80s shows and theme songs were the best.
Best theme ever

He'll always be Mr. Feeny to me. I was only 4 when St. Elsewhere ended.
The best hospital show ever
absolutely.
I agree. Best show set in a hospital ever on TV.
I totally agree with you.
@Draper Scott OK. The best hospital show where so many of the cast became huge stars?
This show is so good.
the ER of 80's
More like ER was the St. Elsewhere of the 90's
mitrooper but ER was more edgier then St Elsewhere
it was based on Boston City Hospital (the real St. Elsewhere) always in the shadows of the world renowned Mass General Hospital.
And once upon a time, Boston's pride and joy. Joseph P Kennedy Sr pulled a few strings to get then 2 1/2 year old John F Kennedy admitted to Boston City Hospital when he came down with scarlet fever.
Norman Lloyd still alive at 105!
Not anymore. RIP.
@@turbofanlover : Saturday, September 4, 2021--11:01 pm CST
Norman Lloyd passed away earlier this year at the age of 106.
Terry Marvin (Dallas, Texas)
He died in May 2021😭💔 he was 107!!!
Those eyes on William Daniels............stunning eyes!
William Daniels has beautiful blue eyes.
It was based after St. Elizabeth's medical centers right outside Boston in Brighton Mass.
Bruce Greenwood?! Damn. Kelvin Timeline Captain Pike was a stone cold fox.
I worked at a hospital for a few years ...porter ...linen, materials ...hospitals are extremely interesting workplaces
RIP Stephen Furst - Woody Allen #2 has passed beyond the Rim...
I still am amused that when Mark Harmon wanted off the show to do movies, they gave his character A.I.D.S. as no one like him.

Nice to see that Ferris Bueller's mother (Cindy Pickett) is on this show here. :)
Prior to "Ferris Bueller" she had a 4 year stint on CBS's "The Guiding Light, in the late 70's early 80's.
Christina Pickles also used to be on Guiding Light in the early 70s.
@@a.b.s_productions Yes, she was Phillip's mum on GL before she was FB mum!
I'm sure Stephen Furst got more than 10,000 marbles for this role!
Steven Furst was in Animal House. R.I.P.
Rip Mimsie The Cat From MTM

Good show good theme song
I think this music is the same as series 1.
Long ass f’n time.. rip!
All I’m getting is the theme I’d like to see the shows please

Ed flanders was in salems lot as well
And William Daniells as "The Knight Industry Two Thousand"!
Bonnie & William Daniels are husband and wife in real life aka mr. fenny
And they played off each other beautifully. Great onscreen chemistry.
Mr. Fenny? lol
Norman Lloyd is 102.
Hopefully soon to be 106!
@@jimgutt749 unfortunately not.
William Daniels aka the voice of KITT in Knight Rider.
They don’t make music like this anymore

Bruce Greenwood would appear on 3 episodes of ER
Stephen Furst is fourth.
The only cast member from St. Elsewhere that made it big in Hollywood was Mr. Denzel Washington.
Howie Mandel?
@@davidpickens8800 David Morse hasn't done too bad either
Bruce Greenwood is in a lot of stuff. He was Ashley Judd's duplicitous husband in Double Jeopardy.
@@davidpickens8800 Bobby's World, Deal or No Deal
Mark Harmon did not do too bad.
