well, compared to all the insanity we face today, coming from every direction, the 70s were a paradise. since 1980 the world has been sinking deeper and deeper into fascism, corruption, animosity, paranoia and social chaos. its now reached the gutter. and i don't see anything changing for the better anytime soon.
i'm now in my sixties, and i'd rather be 60 in the 70s than today. overall, the 70s were a better time for everyone! just look at all THE BS we're inundated with. and we thought watergate and the "energy crisis" and the israeli/arab conflicts were bad. with trump, war, climate change, covid, poverty, police brutality, treason accepted in the mainstream, the rejection of science and women's rights and fascism taking over every american institution the world's society is on the verge of collapse.
its not just nostalgia, generally speaking, the world really was better then than now.

@@cjmacq-vg8umI wholeheartedly agree, it was simple and basic times. The music was definitely the best part of my development. Songs with meaningful messages, inspiration and hope, fun and understanding the words. I feel sorry for this younger generation and beyond, the music today can be so negative and violent, and antisocial, allowing people to develop short fuses and hyper aggressive behaviour, and less tolerance. Not all are negative I know but it's a blessing that we still have country music.

So a mother was heard to be singing that song (like a bird) and in the morning that mother had gone.
So the mother had abandoned her man, her children and her life to seek a new, possibly free-er and hopefully more happy life for h/self, but this certainly would leave her children in a bad situation.

I haven't heard this in yrs. and wow she had a very distinctive/unusual? voice. it was pretty catchy altho not a lyrical masterpiece.
1972 was a great yr for me, I dared to ask a girl I'd been hassling (it wasn't really flirting) in high school if I could see her now that school was over and I didn't not want to see her again, she said yes and I melted for her, I hadn't been so intimate with any girl as we were and she was all I wanted/needed. She was a very sweet and sexy woman altho' she had too many issues to believe it.
In Adelaide S. Aust. there were free summertime 4 hr. concerts on the Sunday in the park by famous AU. pop groups and singers hosted by our local AM. radio station 5KA.
It was a glorious time to be 18/19 and in love. Mind you the pay as a 1st yr. apprentice was borderline slavery!

This song always reminds me of being in the Lamplighter Pub on Great Homer Street area of Liverpool, the day the Queen opened the Kingsway Tunnel. After work, we waited for the crowds to disperse. It was a glorious warm June day in 1971.
We didn't have I/T - work was plentiful and employees more respected than today.
Despite revisionists, the 1970s was a magical decade to grow up in and listen to pop music like this, that still sounds happy and fresh. Its was also the time decimalisation was brought in, though prices were still like 25p for a pint of bitter.

Her voice had/has a 2 tone sound to it making it quite unique I think. 😲 I saw her singing this much later and she sounded practically the same, not sure but I don't think it was mimed! 👏🏻
BTW she was quite a babe also eh? 😉
