How sad and what a pity that the Cebuano Pasyon is on the verge of extinction! How absurd that the youth in that part of the country would think the indigenous chant of the story of Salvation would be considered "outdated" and even "ridiculous". . . the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ (content of the Pasyon) is theologically more important of course, than devotions to the Lord's Infancy and Childhood . . . Christmas is but a prelude to the central feast of the Redemption. I too have a devotion to the Santo Nino but hey folks, let's reflect on it . . . let us understand our Faith in a deeper way . . . the Paschal Mystery is very important. In my Tagalog context, the Pasyon-Pabasa are very much alive . . . the youth do appreciate it and it is indispensable to the inculturated experience of our Faith . . . I hope the Cebuano faithful would preserve the Pasyon tradition . . . I couldn't understand why it would be allowed to die out or be forgotten . . . the Alay hymns to the Virgin during Flores de Mayo are very much alive and promoted . . . the Pasyon is also alive in Ilocos, in Pampanga, in the Bicol region . . . why would it not thrive in Cebu? Please, please preserve the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Filipino people! May God guide us in all our undertakings to preserve and strengthen our Faith!
