Many people asking why I didn't ride in a cart. Doing that I would have had to set up a tripod for every shot. With a push cart half the trouble is already done and the push cart can get right next to the green.

Having competed for over 50+ years, with a modicum of success, I have learned having skills and game is not enough for competitive golf. Competitive golf is a totally different world from recreational golf. You mentioned it when you said, you’ll be much better after ten more of these competitive events. Look at Tiger, as legendary as he is, he has trouble playing in tournaments occasionally. You have the game and skills plus you have the golf knowledge to play competitive golf. It will take numerous times playing under competitive pressure to find your comfort zone, stay with it!

    • @jasonlee5279

Completely agree. In Australia at private clubs, we play tournaments 4 times a week. So the transition from that to higher level tournaments is not as big a jump as you are experiencing. I think 10 times is on the mark

I competed in amateur tournaments in Wisconsin for several years. My 1st state am was at age 27 and two years later I was the No 1 ranked amateur in the state. I lost the Am in sudden death and was third in the state open that year. Was runner-up again in the am a few years later and always made the top ten. The lowest handicap I recall was +4 . Very few people can perform in tournaments like they play on their home course. It's a whole different world. On the other hand I could never be a you tube creator so kudos to MRSG

Matt, this content is awesome! Shows first hand just how dialed in you need to be to shoot under par at a qualifier like this. I think many golfers harbor the notion that "I could play on the Senior Tour if I had my A game"... and you provide the sobering reality that it is tough! Keep working and I'm sure you will get there. Great to see how you have to course manage in your journey to qualify. Love it!

I've lost at golf lots and lots of times, and I've learnt that it's as important to play badly well as it is to play well well. You put this across so well in this video, and that makes you a champion of a different (and more pertinent) way for we amateur golfers. It's not ALL about me, whether I win or lose. It's about not being a jerk, mostly. Thank you so much for putting this out there.

@MrShortGame thank you for making this video and posting it. Tournament golf is so much fun. I played my first state qualifier this year, played some of my best golf ever except could not control my adrenaline while putting and a tap would go 20feet. Would love to see a video on how to putt under pressure/with adrenaline. I asked a lot of people for advise before hand and some of the best advice I got was “play it like harbor town” which was really you might not get this opportunity to do something this cool again so enjoy the experience. Another person told me that while your out there, “no one cares how you play other then you” meaning it’s all a mental game and it’s all in your hands, the last bit of advise came from a guy who nearly made it into the PGA but was drafted, “you made it to that point, it means you can play just as well as anyone out on that course, don’t worry if you belong or don’t belong…you are there…have fun and know you can play better then anyone out there.

Great job, keep at it only a few back and you can make those up pretty easy looking back at your round! I enjoyed watching you play, hope you give it another go! All the best!

Good round man. Tough conditions and agree. Comp golf is a different animal than casual golf, and it’s a learning experience for sure.

Ha, had a similar round of golf yesterday myself. 43 front, 34 back. Weird day. Golf is hard. Nice job grinding through it!
