I agree that there isn’t enough dimension in the palette. I ended up ordering the one from Sydney Grace in Mel’s memory. I would love to see a comparison between the two.
Love your blouse! Thanks for the honest review. This to me is too light. Have you seen Sydney Grace's version of the Retro palette put together by Mel Thompson before she passed? It's for sale now and part of the proceeds go to Mel's husband and children. The bundle is $60 for 20 shades. It does have rich dark and medium tone colors.
I love ND palettes but this one is just too cool toned for me. And am I the only one that can’t get over how much hers looks like Mel’s? And Mel’s was first (at least to us). If I were to purchase I’d buy Mel’s. This comes off like a subpar dupe. Love you & the blouse!
It's not just you-- Mel loved more punchy, vibrant mattes like Angie and was a master of blending, so they wouldn't scare her either! She's a bold lady, that Mel! Sydney Grace totally did right by her 100%
Yes the Sydney Grace bundle is cheaper than Natasha Denona and I am about 100% sure the shades will be better and with more depth between the greens and not all look alike. 😉
I definitely see similarity. Which is not a bad thing. Mel was so inspiring ! Also while ND raised her prices Sydney Grace didnt. Another reason to buy Mels bundle !
I completely agree with you! I think it’s even a bigger disappointment because it was such a long wait for it. I have the impression that all the looks we can do with this, can be done with the ABH noveau palette.
From the swatches online I already knew I wasn't going to like it, but seeing how those green shades are IDENTICAL... easy pass for me. I also need some depth in palettes and this is too midtone heavy. I wanted this to be my first natasha palette given that it's like a modern dupe for the Venus XLII from lime crime which I LOVED, but I think I will just get her neutral cool toned one.
I have the Venus XL II and my sister has the Retro Glam, they don't really look alike at all in person! The Lime Crime is much warmer and mid-toned, the ND one leans really grey/blue.
I agree with you. While I like the looks people have done so far, I wouldn't wear those looks myself. I prefer to have at least a couple of deep, dark mattes, and more distinct contrast between shades of the same color.
If I remember correctly, you can pop out shadows from Natasha pallets and switch them around. I think I’m going to swap a few shadows around so that I can add some dark mattes. I’m thinking I’ll combine it with just a bit of the glam palette. I already bought this one and it’s on the way. While I love these colors, I can see it lacks a little range.
I rearranged my Glam yesterday! I added a bronze and a cranberry to get more range too. Natasha's philosophy revolves more around texture than tone. I took out a gold and champagne-- the gold was actually unique and will be back for spring, but the other one is just a less punchy version of another "wet look" champagne in the palette. I think you'll have a lot of fun! Something else I did was paint over the shade names with black polish so it wouldn't be as distracting haha. Now it's a clean gradient, in rows of similar tones and really sparks my inspiration!
@@reencampbell4481 I think it's really important to keep that a part of the convo-- I feel it's quite common to expect artists to create outside of their comfort zones, and I don't think that's fair. She showcases what to expect from her palettes! To expect more depth isn't realistic. One shouldn't expect Pat McGrath to be less bold or not obsessed with rosey tones, they should just buy something else, in the same way I'm skipping retro glam but duping the vibes haha.
@@nailinthefashion very good point… i never thought of it that way. We are talking about makeup artists who have created brands from *their* personal aesthetics and preferences… when you put it that way, it becomes easy to understand and it’s not “predictable” rather true to themselves. I like it!
It's so pretty! I just don't know how much I'd use it. I might see what her black Friday deals look like. And the Lisa Eldredge palettes are coming out and intriguing. I absolutely don't need more eyeshadow
I've only tried the mini camel & mini nude from ND. I returned the mini camel & gifted the mini nude to my niece. My main issue with both was the lack of tonal/shade range. I've found this to be true of ND's larger palettes as well, she tends to stay in the "medium" range & I like having a deep dark matte & a light bright shimmer in my palette. It's really annoying to have 3 or 4 shades that look like they'd make a nice transitional monochromatic blend but end up looking like a single shadow. I did like this type of color story altho it seemed more Spring/Summer than Fall/Winter to me. I was eyeing this palette intently waiting for swatches & reviews. In the meantime SG released Mel's bundle & I liked the shadows in that better. It was still a softer, desaturated palette but it had more depth & a mix of warm/cool which is my preference. It would be interesting to see the 2 compared side by side.
If you told me the green look was all 1 shadow I would believe it 😬 interesting choices were made in the making of this palette. I can't believe the darkest looking green looked like the other green. But the combination of that dark shimmer and the pink was so beautiful 😍
I'm torn. I will probably buy it if there's a good sale but only to mix in with my other midi palettes. For the better version and to support Mel's family, I'm going to prioritize that one.
I thought the palette looked like it was going to be similar when I saw the photos. I am glad you tried it out, because the more I saw different photos I was getting interested and thought they were more different than I first thought. Glad to know they are very similar. Love the dog top. So cute!!
I loved the idea of this palette but seeing it in action now it sucks that it's definitely too light for going well with my skin :( I hope she comes out with a forest themed palette with dark greens 'cause that would be so amazing
@@saritavenkatapathynaidu9533 when you check out the RUclips channel of Natasha Denona herself she showed some models with dark(er) complexion. It actually looks super pretty if you have a darker complexion :)
Im so excited for your review, I feel like this pallete looks different in every video I see 👀 but it's definitely one of the most interesting colors stories from natasha , I feel like she is not doing as many monochromatic palletes and I appreciate that
I received this palette in a beauty box and fell in love with it . I have hazel eyes and the greens, pinks and browns in this palette look so pretty. I also use this palette with brighter shades of pink and they mix beautifully. The shimmers are gorgeous in this palette . Your looks are so beautiful.
I have no desire to pick up this palette.Meh is also the word I would use to describe this one. But you can make anything look good and I honestly appreciate your artistry so I am giving your my support.
This is why Sydney Grace always does more for me, tbh. But I love the points others have made about all of ND’s shades being interchangeable - I just haven’t been able to afford any of it yet. Maybe this and then the dark green large one would work well for swapping? I’d think so.
I do wish it had a dark matte, but I love that this is actually cool toned and wearable by cool toned gals - something ND palettes generally aren't. I eyed Mel's bundle and that leaned warmer as well. Its nice to not be ignored for once.
I am so thankful you did this review because when I saw this it sucked me in! I wanted it so bad ( I was debating on buying the bundle from Sydney Grace X Mel instead ), now I see that a LOT of the greens look the same on the eye!? I mean that's 5 different greens and they all look the same on your eye, beautiful look, but all about the same green color! So thank you for your honesty! I will be going with Sydney Grace, if any.
Hi Angie, can’t wait to hear your thoughts. You’re the absolute best ❤. You’re refreshingly honest and I love that about you. Not impressed with the color palette. The first eye looks like you used one shadow
Your criticism about the greens being similar were mine too when I was watching another person do looks with this earlier. I'm like, "it's pretty, but each look looks the same almost." Thank you for sharing 😊
I get the impression people should go with the (cheaper) Sydney Grace bundle 🤔 Those swatches look gorgeous and run from light to dark. Also, being singles, people can customise their palette to their hearts content 🤷🏻♀️
Agree. I wish the sage greens were worn like a worn out denim rainy day blue like the shades from her original gold palette. And I wish pinks were closer to the peachy tones in the mini retro palette.
an idea for a video in your new push to use things you have. I think something on like different brush collections, where to get those small precision brushes that's affordable could be really cool. Love all your content!!! Your videos have really helped me find ways to be more bold and myself with my makeup :)
I got this palette 100% knowing I wouldn’t use it by itself, but high I rarely do anyway. I like the colour story and hopefully I will enjoy it. I do like the looks you created, but who’s surprised?!
I agree. I have lot of palettes and I use always them together, so form me it's not a big problem. I also have pale skin and I don't usually use a lot of deep colours. I love sage colours and I'm really happy to see this new palette
I hope you pick up the Mel Thompson Sydney Grace retro-inspired collab. I’d love to see if they’re different enough and how the quality compares to each other 🖤
I think this could be dupe-able by Colourpop Mint to Be almost exactly for the green shades and probably one of the Pink palettes for the other shades. If you want sages and mints, save your coin
This palette actually reminds me of the Lime Crime Venus XL 2! I adore that palette and use it a lot in the spring and summer. It definitely is more versatile though. It has some burgundy and browns along with a bright pastel green to add balance to the grey-greens and pinks
I’m honestly surprised that you’re surprised, because the second I saw this palette I was like “nope, not enough variety in tones, they’ll all look the same.” I also live my darks to be very dark, which is one of the reasons why I like the Club Nebula palette so much.
I’m intrigued by this palette, happy to see you’re first impression on it. I hope to see more videos with this palette and comparisons with the mini retro and ABA Nouveau
I understand what your saying about the greens being símilar but both looks are so flattering on you and the tones of the greens on your eyes is incredible
Been waiting on your review first Angie! You are always so thorough and even though I prefer neutrals and not ur makeup tastes are different, you still are my go to
You said exactly what I thought when I saw this color story, pretty glad I didn’t pick up. It’s a beautiful palette and I’ve seen Beverly pretty eye looks created but like you said you don’t see yourself picking it up again without dipping to a darker shade from another palette:
Good to know that I will need to bring in a deeper matte!😂 I don’t mind that. I prefer a deeper outer corner also. I like the color story. All that’s missing is a really dark matte and I have a million of them! Thanks for this video. 💛💛
Totally agree with you. Even before you said the greens look similar I was already thinking it! Lovely palette, and would probably be a GREAT companion for Hela! I'd love to see you pair them!
I just ordered this palette and I love the looks you made. You look so beautiful! I know that you prefer dramatic looks and it suits you so good! But although you’re not impressed you really make me want the palette 😂 thanks for you review!! 😘😘
Sitting here watching this review waiting for my palette to come tomorrow and all I can think is Hela to the rescue because I think soot would be perfect to deepen the looks. Your palette might be a little warmer but I can’t wait to see if I can come up with something interesting by combining the two. I was never in love with this ND color story but I had to get it with the hopes of seeing it in person and falling for it because I’m a collector.
I just got this palette a few days ago from Sephora but haven't used it yet. It really reminded me of my Lime Crime Venus XL2 color story though which I loved! Your looks are lovely even if you weren't into the palette!
I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this palette and I agree with you, it's important to understand how you like your makeup to look. I passed on this palette because I prefer deep neutral and warm tones.
I feel exactly the same and I should like this palette because I was wishing for something more cooltoned from ND, but I don't see many looks I could do with this one with no depth and shades so similar. Still waiting for the perfect colourstory for me as I'd looove to try her formula
This color story is exactly what I expected. I was so surprised so many people were begging for it. The colors look ok on some people, but not flattering for all. These colors really wash out my skin tone, they do not enhance anything or flatter me. The colors do look pretty, in the palette, but not on me.
I agree that it looks “meh”. I’d be really interested in seeing how the Sydney Grace x Mel Thompson looks compared to the ND. I would possibly purchase the SG pallete if the colors show a greater range than the ND. Plus a percentage of the SG pallete will go to Mel’s husband and their children.
Hey there Angie! Not sure how I missed this video yesterday, but I'm here now! 😊 Thank you so much for this video. I purchased off Sephora so I could use my 20% off and it's delivered today
The SG bundle looks more interesting and vibrant. But then again I am biased because I really enjoy SG shadows. I have not tried ND shadows so I really shouldn't judge (not vegan), but I don't find any of her color stories remotely interesting. And like others have stated why so many similar shades in a $69 palette? I am sure I am in the minority though. Good video.
Remember it’s ok to agree to disagree and just cause others like it don’t mean you have too !! You are into much darker tones and well this pallete just wasn’t for you!! And I can accept that❤cause we love you and you have your taste and we have ours.. I ordered it but dunno if I myself will like it either still waiting! Thank you thou for being totally honest in your review like always ❤❤❤
I’m not a fan of the prices for ND brand but honestly this eye look is totally gorgeous and elegant. The look you did with the pink is definitely editorial and something you can get away with as a guest at a wedding. Your eyes with both looks were soft but sooooo beautiful. As someone in her 40s I’d opt for these shades as my everyday look but the price won’t allow me to spend that much. I hope there’s a pallet out there with similar shades for a lower price point and definitely in a smaller scale like a 10 pan pallet.
Sydney Grace has a eyeshadow singles bundles with a similar color story. SD has a better matte formula than ND imo. But SD is more pigmented and the shimmers are stronger. If you like a more buildable, less shiny formula you might like ND's better.
I really like the colorstory but I agree it is in the end not as versatile as you might think with alle those looking the same. I was on the fence of getting this because these colors speak to my soul! But they are not what I had hoped and since I also already have that Venus 2 palette by Lime Crime…. I don’t feel like this palette would bring anything new to my collection. Thank you for showcasing this palette so well, I know you genuinely tried to make the best out of it because you love the brand, so I know now I really don’t need it
I agree with you on this color story it lacks depth. Almost pastel, will need to add deeper shades from my ND 28 pan green-brown palette to give it some versatility. Thanks for an honest review!
Natasha Denona is my favourite eyeshadow brand. I just love the formula. I don’t like though that the cream to powder shades look so deep and beautiful in the pan but come up so much lighter on the eyes. They are still stunning when applied but they are different than the color story I imagine the palette to be.
Looking at the color story I first thought: What a nice color story for spring time. But after hearing what you said I am glad that I can't afford the high end brands. The dog blouse is funny, I like it. It is environmentally friendly to keep older clothes, so buying and throwing away all the time should be over in today's world.
i think the mint shades are the only thing that makes the Retro Glam stand out, but there are way better mint shadows out there like from colourpop's mint to be palette
I agree that the palette doesn’t have a lot of versatility on its own, but both looks turned out so beautiful! You truly have a talent for the artistry of makeup and use of color, beyond anyone else on RUclips. Also, both of the looks were stunning ON you!

I think you'll have a lot of fun! Something else I did was paint over the shade names with black polish so it wouldn't be as distracting haha. Now it's a clean gradient, in rows of similar tones and really sparks my inspiration!
I am going to pop out a few of the shades and popping in some of the deeper shades from retro.
@@nailinthefashion Such a good point about ND’s philosophy… very texture-centric! Couldn’t agree more! And she really shows that with her life looks.
Havnt watched yet but the mel collection from sidney grace looks like what this pallet wants to be.
I opted for In Mel’s Memory instead of ND Retro Glam. 5 more shadows and a more comprehensive mini Retro color scheme, yes please!
So cute!!
I'm blown away by this pallete. I love the light green eyeshadows.
I loved the idea of this palette but seeing it in action now it sucks that it's definitely too light for going well with my skin :( I hope she comes out with a forest themed palette with dark greens 'cause that would be so amazing
Yeah, I’m just a little darker than Angelica and I can’t imagine this one going well for me.
Check out the Sydney Grace bundle in honor of Mel Thompson!
@@saritavenkatapathynaidu9533 when you check out the RUclips channel of Natasha Denona herself she showed some models with dark(er) complexion. It actually looks super pretty if you have a darker complexion :)
Sounds like Mel T’s version with SG might be much more to your liking❣️💚
i would love an updated ranked natasha denona palettes video!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im so excited for your review, I feel like this pallete looks different in every video I see 👀 but it's definitely one of the most interesting colors stories from natasha , I feel like she is not doing as many monochromatic palletes and I appreciate that
I think the mini retro is the way I will go!
I just want to say I loooooove your blouse omgggg the dog print is so cute
You're not alone on this! I think this palette lacks depth and versatility too. A lot of similar looking shades. Thank you for being honest with us!
I just loooove the palette!!! Your outcome is beautiful :)
That foundation you are wearing looks great! It looks very natural.
I love the look with the pink. I feel like she should’ve made a light and dark version of the palette.
I like how large of a pallette it is and how incredibly GREEN it is! Mainstream brands don't do that. I just super love it 💚💚💚
Hi Angie, can’t wait to hear your thoughts. You’re the absolute best ❤. You’re refreshingly honest and I love that about you. Not impressed with the color palette. The first eye looks like you used one shadow
Your criticism about the greens being similar were mine too when I was watching another person do looks with this earlier. I'm like, "it's pretty, but each look looks the same almost."
Thank you for sharing 😊
This palette goes so well with your palette from Odens Eye, used them both today for a great look!!!
I’d love to see if they’re different enough and how the quality compares to each other 🖤
The looks you created are different and I personally think it's one of your best looks I've seen.
I am so glad you made this video… I agree completely! She DID NOT hit the ball out of the park this time😊
I think this could be dupe-able by Colourpop Mint to Be almost exactly for the green shades and probably one of the Pink palettes for the other shades. If you want sages and mints, save your coin
My thoughts exactly. The Blush Crush is a bit warm, but could totally fill in the pinks.
Teal green lovely blouse!
The Green Eye Look is Amazing with your eye color!
I would love to see you ranking all the Natasha eyeshadow palettes that were released for 2022!
Great honest first impression. Thank you 😊
Been waiting on your review first Angie! You are always so thorough and even though I prefer neutrals and not ur makeup tastes are different, you still are my go to
I hear you about the deeper shades, what do you think of the Sydney Grace collaboration with Mel Thompson? Love to hear your opinions 😊
I agree with you! I was pretty disappointed with it! I was expecting so much more color payoff and range
I'm curious if the depth in the Sydney Grace x Mel Thompson bundle have better contrast.
It does have more contrast for sure.
That blouse is EVERYTHING! I have a basset hound named Walter ❤
I'm excited for this palette, I'm get this one and Mel Thomson bundle aswell 😍, loved both of your looks
Good video.
angelica everybody I have watched demo that pallet has made the same comment about the pallet needing some darker colours xx
I grab the shades from the Mel bundle and I changed out the pinks for peaches shades
Its a pretty palette! I think between all my colourpop palettes I have the coloratory covered but I enjoyed the video!
The green eye look really matches your eye color while the pink look makes your eye color look grey.
I wonder if Mel's version will outsell Natasha's? I prefer Mel's.
You can buy individual shades from the Mel Thompson version, which if you got 10 shades would be $35
Sydney Grace has a eyeshadow singles bundles with a similar color story. SD has a better matte formula than ND imo. But SD is more pigmented and the shimmers are stronger. If you like a more buildable, less shiny formula you might like ND's better.
@@teaganshines4800 thank you. I’ll look into those. :)
@@AlcideIzMine thank you for letting me know. I haven’t purchased anything from Sydney Grace. I’ll keep it in mind. :)
