To explain what being a "lazy" 9 is, imagine it's really hot outside but you didn't know and went out with a sweater. Well now you have a sweater on and there is no way in hell you're going through the trouble of getting it off and then carrying it. You are just going to leave it on and suffer the sweet pain.
Except the sweater is probably a person or a group of people

As a 9 why wouldn’t you just take the sweater off and tie it around your waist? Or leave it in a car or on a chair you’re sitting on? I couldn’t imagine myself actually doing nothing in that scenario unless I was just mildly uncomfortable

I listened to 4 or 5 of these complete guides, mostly as a tool for character writing because it seemed like a useful tool. Though I wasn't sure how valid I felt it was to real life. I never really gravitated toward any of the types.
Then I watched *this* video. And I felt like I was punched in the gut from start to finish. Like I was having a session with a therapist and they had to sit me down and explain a hard truth I'd been avoiding.

The 9w1 does sound a lot like my wife. We've been married for 14 years and knew each other for a couple of years before that, so I've come to get to know her fairly well. One of the things that we enjoy doing together is daydreaming out loud about shared ideas and how we could realize them. Sometimes, we even manage to attempt to make one of these ideas come true. For example, we've started a garden at the school where she teaches. We combined her amazing ability to turn anything into a teaching tool with my horticultural training and experience to make a garden that all of the classes at her school can use to teach the kids from kindergarten to fifth grade.
The way she deals with feeling really frustrated or angry is just like what you describe here in that she'll start crying rather than yelling or lashing out. Even when she's upset, she always seems to find the silver lining. I think she's more of a self-preservation instinct than the other ones. She's pretty easily entertained and has few wants.
I think some of these aspects of the nine are partly how my wife and I get along. We both can become introverted and introspective so she understands that aspect of my personality too. The nine's ability to fit in with other types is probably why she's so willing to join in with my hobbies and spend time with me through them. I tell my friends in the videogaming, collecting and tabletop gaming social media groups I'm in that I'm lucky to have a spouse who actually enjoys my hobbies rather than just putting u with them. So many of the guys I know in those groups find that their hobbies are a source of friction in their marriages. Though I'm not predisposed to expressing my emotions and feelings towards others, I do think sometimes to let her know how much I appreciate her interest in my hobbies. I try to take an interest in her's as well. She's really into volunteering at our church and helping with youth programs, so I join in with those things when I can. I have trouble coping with rooms full of kids, especially for extended periods of time, so most of my participation is behind the scenes with helping her prepare lessons, craft projects, activities etc. When I do spend time with her grade school or church students, she often reminds them ahead of time to be on their best behavior and to use their inside voice even more than usual. Loud, rambuctious, noisy kids kind of drive me nuts. I don't see how she has the patience for it.

I'm on 9 wing 8 and have recently figured out that if I'm having this feeling inside of me of feeling like someone is manipulating me, that I don't need to settle and suppress my needs just to make others happy. I can lean on that 8 wing and I can say what is bothering me but do it in a calm way, like 9's like to do. I can be a diplomat and still stand up for my needs. I feel like I've been in a much healthier place once I've realized the power of asserting my needs but doing it in a calm, kind way. I do love the countries and celebrities you associate 9's with and it made me feel happy and empowered that I'm in such great company. Thanks for doing such a great deep dive on 9's!

We like to keep the peace but aren’t afraid to call out bad behavior especially if it’s bullying, deception or manipulation. Our hate for confrontation is strong but not as strong as ethics and justice in the face of someone trying to get over at the expense of others. The saying “don’t take kindness for weakness” applies.

Type 9 here. The 9w1 description is me 90%+ of the time. And then I hit my breaking point, my temper flares up and Type 8 rears it’s head. Just recently i figured out that i am a type 9. my tendency to avoid conflicts is something that i am so used to that i honestly stopped noticing it. basically my whole apperance is the opposite of provoking (very unobtrusive). you've mentioned that unhealthy, isolated nines can look like 5's and i can totally confirm that this is true. i might gather lots of information like this type but in my case it's strictly psychology-related. this is knowledge that i use to get along with different personality types and understand myself better (because obviously that is something 9's tend to struggle with) and not like type 5's only to be competent and knowledgeable. the best way to figure out ones own type is really by looking at the core fear and desire. at least that's what helped me the most. also a healthy and mature 8 in my life helped me to stand up for myself more often, which was another step torwards growth.

    • @YouveGotaType

@@retrolofiradio66 it sounds like the work needed is less about finding your enneagram type, and more about listening to your own inner self. If you can’t decide between those two very different types, then the journey simply starts by observing your inner thoughts, fears, past trauma, etc.

      @YouveGotaType  Год назад +2

@@angelagoodwin5758 that’s ironically why I don’t advocate for tri-types :) if you dig into the depths of your true enneagram type, it will intersect with every other enneagram type in some way via the three triads and/or wings and those overlaps will allow a full spectrum of traits. Just a thought!

Famous 9 wing 1 include Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton. So much in common: famous for their pleasing regal yet minimalist style, graciousness. Very successful early in life (integration to 3?), then they seem to withdraw into a family role and curated image, perhaps burned by the harsh world, they settle into a quieter, more private domestic life.,

The last one I took came back a 9 and it felt a little more accurate, so I searched RUclips and yours was the one I clicked on....I have to say that I'm glad I did because you described me to a tee!! And I can say with 99% certainty that I'm a 9 with a 1 wing.
Everything you described, right down to the childhood experiences and the dissociation was spot on! The last two years I have been doing a lot of self healing and rarely dissociate anymore and I'm also becoming a little more outspoken. It's funny you say about the sense of humour of 9w1 because most days I just sit back and go with the flow with my friends but every now and then I somehow flip my personality or something and I'm really quick witted and can come out with good one liners that I normally couldn't think of 🤣
Thanks again for helping me understand myself more ☺️👍

Yes I first took the Truity test, followed by the Crystal Knows test and personality path. I got 2 5s and a 6. I then found the enneagram coach or your enneagram coach it might be called. Their questions were worded so much clearer and had more detail and I realised I hadn't been answering the questions correctly which is why I wasn't really matching up with the descriptions. And then when I watched your video I was like, yep! Haha that's me!

I was “diagnosed” by two different tests, one unpaid for one paid for, but both came up as type nine and I remember reading the description on it, and being so disappointed because I had spent months in therapy, trying to access my ability to like create boundaries because I had such a hard time with it and I also had to work on a lot of anger issues That I never had before that just like popped up randomly or three months of like the most intense anger that you can imagine just overwhelming sense of like rage, and it was so frustrating for me to handle this cause I hate being angry, and I don’t know how to describe better that like I hate being angry more than most people like I don’t know how to put that into context but when I was told I was a nine I was like oh that makes sense and now it’s a topic for me and my therapist frequently. Thanks for your video. This was voice text so apologies for the weird comment.

Thanks, a lot of info in one take!
One thing about the nine that I believe is central to the type and a bit understated, is that the sloth is not necessarily so much in physical laziness but especially in neglecting to put energy in finding out who they really are as a unique person. This is where resistance comes up because it is a very tough and disruptive (exactly what the nine hates the most) lesson when it really sinks in but also crucial if the nine wants to grow as a person. With that, the last advice is the big one, addressing the core issue. All the other stuff is about the symptoms and will be much easier to tackle once you really know who you are and what you stand for.
At my mid 40s, as a sexual 9, I’m just trying to find that out after a couple of painful experiences, so sorry for the long comment but this is really powerful and important for people to understand as early as possible.

Thanks so much Emilie! Maybe some day the channel will break through and reach those kind of numbers - but for now I'm grateful it's finding it's way organically to people who are open minded about their journey of self-awareness like you.
As far as delineating your type between 6 & 9, there is a ton of overlap! But the biggest thing I can suggest is to notice if your tendency is to "numb yourself" when times are stressful or if you tend to get a bit tasky when you're stressed like 6s. 9s alleviate stress/trauma by hiding from life - either in a shadow career they don't enjoy or by attaching themself to a relationship with a person who has TONS of energy and pretty much guides your entire life. 6s on the other hand, alleviate stress by taking action - either diving into their jobs like a workaholic or devoting themselves to the needs of others / an organization (similar to a 2).
Usually those two coping mechanisms stand out the most, but let me know if that helps or not!

I was always super confused as to whether I was a 4 or a 9 and all the tests I took told me I was a 4w5 eventhough I was never truly convinced because I never agreed with their motivations and while I felt out of place when with my emotions when it came to my family, I certainly never thought I was special from the rest of the world nor did i want to be. But when I'm in a bad place I was very similar to 4s in the sense that I can be very emotional, moody, and be prone to sudden outbursts of anger and resentment because I supress what i really want to say and make alot of people (including myself) confused about why I let out everything over something so small. Which I hate.
So overall I related to type 4s only when I was on my bad days lol.
Now after watching your video, I am 100% sure I'm a type 9 lol. When you described the childhood. I was SHOCKED at how accurate it was 💀 and the fact that you said I would never describe my childhood as traumatic I had to stop and stare at the screen for a second 💀💀.
    However now I'm confused if I'm a 9w1 or a 9w8.
I relate to 9w8 because I feel I have a more practical look at life, feel I can socialize a bit easier than most 9s, and I definantely like to pull my own weight at work. I can be a little more aggressive and defensive on certain aspects. And I'm Definantely more like a 4 when im in my lower points in life. However, I do quit easily, I dislike sports, and competition stresses me out. But based on your video, I can definitely say my primary instinct is self-preservation, so maybe that explains why I'm less competitive and ambitious than most 9w8s cause I really like the simple things in life. But what really makes me doubt I'm a 9w8 is the fact that they are so rare for type 9s 💀also I feel I was more similar to a 9w1 as a child and am told by people I can be pretty philosophical and "deep" when I give advise (I cringed writing that down 😭)and when I'm feeling my most peaceful I relate to 9w1 more.
Overall though thanks to this excellent video, my confusion over my enneagram has finally vanished! Amazing job! You can definitely tell how much research and time went into the video. Also the way you explained it was simple enough that people new to the enneagram would definantely have no trouble understanding! Amazing video!

This was wonderful to read, so thank you very much for taking the time to write it! On the note about wings, 9 wing 8s (particularly in stress) mistype as 4s all the time. It's actually one of the most common mistypes there is in the enneagram, next to 9 wing 1s that mistype as 5s (that tends to be men). But at the end of the day, we all have a mix of both wings in us so it's just about where there's a predominant leaning. Hopefully that helps nail things down!

@@YouveGotaType that's funny because I tend to struggle between all three types (4, 5 and 9, sometimes also 6) as a woman. In this series I could relate to type 9(w1) much more than to 4 and 5, but many descriptions say that 9s (especially the Sp subtype) would be more concrete and avoid self-awareness, what feels extremely off for me. I relate to 5 because I'm very withdrawn and fear becoming overwhelmed by the outside world and other people, feeling more comfortable with observing and analysing things and I relate to 4 because I'm constantly looking inside and searching for who I am and feel quite in touch with my emotions / drawn to melancholy. The subtypes/instincts make it even more difficult for me, because I don't think I merge with other people like the social or Sx 9, but I'm more philosophical and abstract than the Sp 9 is described. However, I think your descriptions are really well summarised!
