This video is important because it shows how, despite losing his battle buddy, he still reluctantly wants to trust innocent people. In the end he looks to the sky, hoping his lost friend would approve. It's beautiful because it goes hand in hand with the music, the song talks about revenge "this i swear, the sun will shine" and ultimately still being a good person. A lot of people could use that perspective right now.
IMO the song has a double meaning. You can see it as being about the military, or a domestically abusive realtionship. I think its that way on purpose, so as to draw a comparison between serving soldiers and victims of abuse, and the subsequent trauma that is endured.
My condolences to the families and comrades of the 13 marines killed in Kabul on Thursday, August 26th, 2021. A black day for all of us. Thank you for your commitment in these difficult days. Rest in peace.

9 years ago, I remember when I was just a tot teen girl (13) listening to the local rock station and this came on for the first time... Metallica is so timeless
That's exactly the way I heard this song for the first time... On a radio station. That was also the first time I listened to Metallica and I fell in love immediately. Almost 10 years ago. Time flies.
This is also my first song from Metallica. When I was 11, I only knew the name due to an article on a newspaper but one time this song came on my screen and I felt how fucking cool it is
The last scene was like "Am I doing the right thing?". By the context of that time of conflict, it really made people think of what's right, what's wrong, and what's worth. And that made it so powerful.
This song inspired me to try my best to make it through college. When it looked hopeless and useless to continue, I had not only this, but support of good friends and my fiance, and my family. Not everyone understands the magic of Metallica and their music and I am not sure I do, but they have always been there for me from 3rd grade to college and beyond, and anytime things aren't going well, I turn to them for inspiration to persevere in the face of hopelessness. Also I have jammed a the concerts and festivals over the years, including the one in Atlanta where James was a no-show on account of a broken back, but the opening groups got together and did what they could to salvage the show. (Kid rock, Korn, system of a down,....all of them got together to not let us down.)
As a veteran from the war in Iraq, this really hit home. Many people get upset over stupid crap. Traffic, coffee, flat tires. And don't take into consideration how easy life is. Being blown up by IEDs and VBIDs, I can tell you that life is not the same. Amazing song, and thank you, Metallica, for the video. I used to listen to you guys when I was deployed. I can tell you seek and destroy hits differently when you're chasing taliban and ISIS through the desert and the streets of Baghdad, Mosul, and Fallujah. Rock of The Marne!
Bless you sir and thank you for protecting our country. My brother was in Desert Storm and it really changed him sadly but I will ALWAYS be proud of him!
I was there 05-06 under 3rd ID initially in a national guard unit doing route clearance. Got pretty fkd up myself being hit several times. Coming home will never be the same. Welcome home brother. As odd as it is to say it. I been out since 2013 still feels off.
Lay everything down, get money and go no matter the costs. Been to the weekend in munich. Best Ive heard them in 10 years. James‘ Voice is absolute at his peak. The even have this song in their rotation right now. Do it do it do it I can only say.
That moment when a video makes your feet sweat and brings it throughout your body. Those who've served will know what I'm talking bout. This video hits deep.
As a 21 year old and a huge lover of Metallica, this song is something, if one of the only things when it comes to this band that me and my estranged dad can relate with. He and I are seeing this band in November. Throughout the long, drawn out divorce that left me being caught in the middle of a never ending feud that I was dealing with even years before that, this song kept he and I united throughout the whole thing. No matter what hardship or adversity we may face, I know that he and I will always face problems in life as a team, no matter how divided we may seem. Thank you dad for always being there for me, and thank you, Metallica for always being the source that he and I can always relate to and with. 🖤
Hey man, where did you see them at this month, in St. Louis or Detroit? I went to both concerts here in St. Louis, on November 3rd and 5th. I'm 45 and grew up listening to MetallicA and PanterA. 🤘
Metallica doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. They have a legion of fans and followers, massive creative and commercial appeal (across several generations of music listeners), and a track record of sold-out live performances on all seven continents of the world (a proven fact listed by Guinness Book of World Records). So, for whom does the bell tolls?
Metallica is awesome as it is. A fact proven by Guinness World Record means nothing but a socially constructed shit. Do not place everything into that state. That is literally what ruins everything in our world. It is fucking awesome just because it is, not because it's proven by an authority or anything. If you like it you just like it

Man it’s been like 14 years since this album came out. I’m about to be 30. I still remember my uncle letting me borrow it when I was like 13 to burn it on my computer. Simpler times..times I miss and they’re gone forever. But whenever I listen to this album I can relive a lil piece of my childhood
Friend just told me to check it out, just listened to garage days last night and have been addicted to paranoid by black sabbath for the past week 😂 i usually listen to rap but lately been going back to some old music
This video helped me from a heavy and deep depression I have been going through since a buddy died in my arms from a stabbing. I had just got out of the military, and had nobody to talk to. It was before PTSD was a "thing", and my generation just holds it in anyway. I drank, and vented it on my loved ones. I ended up alone and broke, as is the normal story of a drunk. SO, I stopped drinking, and got my shit together. But it still nagged at me, as did my military grief and BS. I finally got to talk to the VA now, and now there is music out there that I can listen to that can get to parts of my mind that can at least sooth parts of it and can chip away at the hardened edges of the pain, that I have been carrying around. Thank You Metallica!!!
@Hajos Armandio-Liviu Thank You for such a deep and thoughtful response. As I already read the Bible and do pray, I still appreciate the advice, as one can never be reminded to read the good word enough. Thank you and God Bless!

It’s a fantastic song, an absolute Metallica classic and a masterpiece but I remember watching the video to accompany the song and it blew me away. My condolences brother. If Death Magnetic had been released anywhere from 1986-1994 in that time frame then yeah it would be regarded as a classic, but it was a follow up to a critically panned album in St Anger so a lot of detractors were out in full force at that time for the band. And in 2008 thrash metal wasn’t really a thing anymore so I believe this record was inevitably going to be put on the back burner and not get the praise it deserves.
Agreed. Now see the thing about me is I only go see a band play live if I liked their last album. Doesn't matter to me if they can bring it live, I have to like what they're doing lately. And Death Magnetic? Well that was the first tour I'd seen them on in 14 years.
This is my all time favorite from Metallica. My two older brothers introduced me to Metallica, Disturbed etc. when I was just 13 years old (17 years ago) and I am so grateful for them. Just saw them live last month, and I couldn't believe some 60 year old dudes could rock a stadium that hard.
Metallica gave my life back from depression.

He wants payback so bad for his buddy but there is a higher power holding him back
True.... I miss my comrades
@@ryankaczmarek5886 We got payback may times but it just became a endless cycle. Then you ask why?
So much pain was exacted upon either side of the fight.

Jessica Moore yeah, i remember when i was like 6 and this came on! i didn't like rockmusic backthen, dkw
That's exactly the way I heard this song for the first time... On a radio station. That was also the first time I listened to Metallica and I fell in love immediately. Almost 10 years ago. Time flies.
10 years ago, my father played Death Magnetic album in his car, i stuck with Metallica till now
This is also my first song from Metallica. When I was 11, I only knew the name due to an article on a newspaper but one time this song came on my screen and I felt how fucking cool it is
Do you have something with Gary Moore?
And how did it play out for ya there bud was it fucking worth it lol

Metallica doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. They have a legion of fans and followers, massive creative and commercial appeal (across several generations of music listeners), and a track record of sold-out live performances on all seven continents of the world (a proven fact listed by Guinness Book of World Records).
Stay strong brother

Death Magnetic is a truly but really truly underrated album in metal history.. this shit should earn more love..
Its an amazing album
If Death Magnetic had been released anywhere from 1986-1994 in that time frame then yeah it would be regarded as a classic, but it was a follow up to a critically panned album in St Anger so a lot of detractors were out in full force at that time for the band. And in 2008 thrash metal wasn’t really a thing anymore so I believe this record was inevitably going to be put on the back burner and not get the praise it deserves.
Fuckin amazing record. A return to what made them great
Agreed. Now see the thing about me is I only go see a band play live if I liked their last album. Doesn't matter to me if they can bring it live, I have to like what they're doing lately. And Death Magnetic? Well that was the first tour I'd seen them on in 14 years.
