- This week I answered several questions from you, my RUclips family, about the craft of acting - from the best acting tips and advice I ever received to what I wish I knew then that I know now.
I hope this helps you save a LOT of time, energy, and money!
I loved this video - I've been acting since the 5th grade, won humor competitions, had a main role in high school plays and won awards, with many college projects. This was encouraging to hear and would be participate in my lifelong dream before I leave this earth. Actors for life!
We're glad you could find some encouragement in the message. Thank you for watching!
No! Please don't stop posting these videos, I'm actually binge watching these lol. They're amazing, thank you!!!
Request - Can you please do a video of how important (or worth) full-time drama school is? Like Pros and Cons or something. Apologies if this is covered already somewhere. I'm actually little older and I don't think I can get to a full-time school anymore due to financial, family responsibilities etc.. I am already taking classes, workshops, reading books, doing some theatre btw.
hi jai, thank you for the kind words and support - and i do believe there is something on my channel re: drama schools. if you can't find it let m know and i will try and find it - again thank you and my very best to you - jim
Your probably busy getting to live out your dream, but these videos are invaluable and if you have time to post another sometime, I know we would all be grateful ❤ Thank you for all the advice!!!!!
I just discovered these videos and they're great, especially this last one.
Having passion and faith in yourself is a major factor in fulfilling your dream.
Listening to what Jim Jarrett and Anthony Montana have to say involving the Meisner Technique is fascinating to me as a none actor I'm a huge boxing fan and It seems as if these quotes ring true in acting as well as boxing.
''Champions aren't made in the ring,
they are merely recognized there.
You can map out a fight plan or a life plan,
but when the action starts, it may not go the way you planned,
and you're down to your reflexes, training your preparation, perseverance.
That's where your roadwork shows.
If you cheated on that in the dark of the morning,
well, you're going to get found out now, under the bright lights.''
- Joe Frazier -
''Absorb what is useful,
Discard what is not,
Add what is uniquely your own.''
- Bruce Lee -
''The counter-attack calls for the greatest skill, the most perfect planning,
and the most delicate execution of all fighting techniques.
It is the greatest art in fighting' the art of the champion''
- Bruce Lee -
These are wonderful quotes and absolutely ring true for acting
I love this and you. Thank you for your devotion!!
Its now 2022 but I love the videos. Informative, encouraging and kind of a virtual pat on the back. I can listen while I make my living (day job) and use while I create my life (Acting). Thank you!
These videos are great please don't stop. Meisner's technique does appeal to a common but certain type of person/actor. To be able to identify and keep up and act moment by moment truthfully is quite something to be able to do. I would love it if you could share a practice we can practice when by ourselves.. if there are any. The closest thing I know to get into a "moment" is practising stillness and meditation. I have always felt a strong pull towards Meisner's work! Always! But in Australia it is not so accessible or common. I'm glad I stumbled across you, coming from the source:)
hi matthew - thank you for the kind words and the support. it's greatly appreciated. re: what you can do on your own, those tow things are wonderful but another thing you can do is simply watch life and work of all the moments you see/hear. for example, if you were in a coffee shop just listen and observe anyone's behavior and then identify that moment - not out loud of course but you can work off anyone and everything all day long - make sense? and yours was a great question so thank you. i'll shoot something and post here soon that advances your question so again thank you and my best to you, jim
@@TheMeisnerTechniqueStudio Awesome thanks for the response! A indepth video would be great as I'm not 100% clear on 'identifying the moment'. Look forward to your videos and im getting alot from your class clips on your website, that is really generous and gives me a feel/flavour of Meisner.
Oh, 1 more thing... is there a way to purchase your performance of your theater show 'Meisner', if it was recorded? I would love to watch that 😃.
Much love.
Your videos are brilliant. You show so much passion when talking about acting. Super inspiring! I recognize that the acting journey can be tough, but that won't stand in the way of pursuing my dream🔥Thank you
Thank you for this video. Very motivational. Gonna save it for later when I need uplifting

This was a very uplifting video for me with where I’m currently at in life. I needed to hear this so thank you. Right now I’m torn on what I should pursue for a career. I went to school for communications and media studies with the dream of getting into sports radio/TV. However I’ve been background acting more recently as a featured BG for an HBO show and I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s inspired me to possibly go all in on becoming an actor. Again, I am torn and still trying to figure life out.
hey kenny - it doesn't have to be either or - at least right now since you are unsure. keep putting one foot in front of the other and i am positive your path will emerge - let me know if i can help in any way - jim

Go Cavs!
Thank you so much for all the advice you put on these videos, most acting teachers don’t do it so I appreciate it so much when they do!! I have one question, when using the Meisner technique in an audition and the person reading isn’t really acting it out, how do we stay truthful through the audition?
hi riley, i am sorry i didn't get an alert that you had left a comment so just now seeing this - re: auditions and working off people giving you little or nothing ALL you can do is dance with them and what they're giving = what else can you do? start acting and serving up an idea verse the truth of what is happening?
and often times the very thing we're trying to do at an auction is to wake them up or get them to do something so often they're giving you little or nothing can actually be used in a positive way - make sense? i hope so and i am sending you my very best, jim
Thank you so much!
hi graziela, you are so welcome and thank you for taking the time to watch it - my best, jim
Wow!
hey tyler - thank you for watching and so glad it helped you - my best, jim

hi z - so glad for you but i am still bummed!
it was a good video
Why wasn’t Mr. Meisner a well known actor himself…if he had the answer, the gift, to acting?
When your broke asf and can’t afford acting school so you watch these lmao
