Someone is supplying Castro -- and, by extension, Moscow -- with NATO secrets; it is up to Devereaux to liquidate the "mole." Aiding Devereaux is CIA agent Nordstrom (John Forsythe) and aristocratic anti-Castro Cuban Juanita (Karin Dor), who happens to be the girlfriend of pro

This scene is one of the most vividly remembered in the film.
Such a masterful scene in every regard, gotta love it. Gunshot rings out; Vernon's lifeless eyes; Dor's lifeless eyes; the gun goes limp; the purple dress engulfing the floor, pooling like blood! It looks like she bopped her head pretty good too. Props to Karin Dor. This was one of Hitchcock's less popular films, I think because of its lack of "star-power" (though I feel the cast is great and admire how Hitch opted to use lesser known talent and foreign actors), but nonetheless this film succeeds with the use of crafty storytelling and powerful imagery as shown in this scene. Stunning work and shamefully overlooked.
fully agree. by the way: karin dor told in an interview that hitchcock's idea of the engulfing dress initially didn't work. so they fixed some nylon cords on the hem and some assistants pulled on command at the same time.
RIP karin dor and john vernon.
I am watching it right now for the first time and I don’t know what was doing bad about this film. Sure it’s not north by northwest psycho or vertigo but I really liked it.
Karin Dor - RIP
This scene is like poetry. I almost didn't even hear anything the characters were saying, but rather I felt them.
Karin was so beautiful. And so gorgeous.
The way Juanita died was flawless.
Exquisite. Pure Hitchcock genius.
R.I.P Karin
Karin Dor was so hot.. and I love her accent.
Rob Lorenz She was an angel. But it's still sad when she died. Rest in Peace Karin
Alfred Hitchcock obviously had a much better idea of how to make this actress look beautiful than the James Bond franchise did.
Alice P You got that right. He always tries to make it better and better
Karin Dor was naturally beautiful. The fake red hair in "James Bond" wasn't the best choice though.
She looks like a mixture of Elizabeth Taylor and Natalie Wood
Karin Dor - one of the greatest german actresses ever.
Karin Door, RIP 2017
James bond girl
John Vernon nailed this scene as Ricco Parra. He is both chilling and sympathetic. Killing Juanita instead of letting her be tortured into giving up other agents was treason against the Castro government. Hitchcock tried to get Sean Connery to play Devereaux, but failed. Too bad. Frederick Stafford was the weak link in this movie, and it would've been good to see Connery and Dor together again. Hitchcock was always good at death scenes, and this one is no exception.
Topaz was a movie about the Cuban Missile crisis. The spy in the story is based on a REAL character, a french agent who supplied Americans with ongoing information about the goings on inside Cuba. The autobiograpy Code Name Lamia is out of print but can still be found used on the intetnet. Its a good read.
This movie gave Karin so much more to do than in You Only Live Twice. It is also remarkable how "Latin" she looked. The only thing that would have made the scene better would be to have a little smoke emitting from the automatic. It looks strange without it.
Karin Dor's death is much more softer than in You Onli Live Twice...
Great movie. KAren door beautiful.
after this, Fidel Castro put his people on Double Secret Probation
2020: killing a woman = canceled.
lol women are still killed in thrillers etc
@@cultfilmfreakreviews sooner or later they will complain and urge to cancel
Sorry to say that TOPAZ is a lousy movie. Love Hitchcock, but it's one of his weaker ones. Too much talk by far. As for the killing of this lady, I was so glad that something was actually happening that I didn't mind her killing.
