It's official--we're halfway through the best and spookiest month of the year!
I can't believe how fast it's been going, but time flies when you're busy in the lab bringing monsters to life, right? Isn't that how the saying goes? ;)
In this video, I'll show you how to take an ordinary clock and turn it into a GIANT faux insect butterfly taxidermy piece! I've been dying (pun intended, as always!) to own a Victorian bubble/convex glass butterfly mount, but I was always heartbroken by how outrageously expensive they are, so I created this piece as a much more accessible and customizable option!

Love this! I especially love that you repurposed the fabric. I feel your pain when the the fuzzy members of the family play with the wrong thing. lol For anyone having trouble with the brighter green florals, I use waverly brown wax to help tone down the color and shine.
Oh, thank you so much! I may have a slightly unhealthy relationship with those curtains--I just can't throw them away! I've made three projects repurposing them so far. In fact, you might see them again in another video later this month! 😂
On the upside, using it in so many projects has kind of tied my house together!

That was pretty smart using the clock to replicate the convex glass! This turned out great. I hope it doesn't get eaten... sneaky bugs. :)
Thank you so much! I'd love to buy some genuine convex glass one day...after I hit the lottery or sell a kidney! Until then, I'll have to stick with my clock trick! 😀 I honestly never thought that bugs would eat framed, totally enclosed taxidermy, but they absolutely did! Crafty little buggers (pun intended). Hopefully, this one is safe!

I need to make a duplicate body so that the Fairy and Marie both have one. :) I have a convex glass frame, shaped like a tombstone actually. It was passed down to me by aunts and has some 1900 relatives in it (I have no idea who they are...) Maybe I need to make something like this piece!
I thought it was really clever how you made the swappable heads, but that would be great if they both had bodies. Two little fairy-folk friends! Oh...I'm so jealous! I looove the headstone shaped convex glass frames. Rip those mystery relatives out of there and make something awesome! 😂

I'm a big fan of faux butterfly taxidermy. My sister made me a beautiful jar of faux butterflies years ago, and I think this project will go very nicely displayed together.

I always loved butterflies! They have a distinct advantage over a lot of other bugs, in my opinion...they're beautiful and harmless, so that bumps them to the top of my "non-fear-inducing insect list", but faux butterflies are even better!
