I learned that as a child and it is very effective. "No is the end of a conversation, not the beginning of an argument"...according to my Stepfather. He was right ❤
I’ve always been a yes person. There have been times I’ve wanted to say “no”. But I always choose not to because of fear of disappointing people. Not having standards and boundaries is what made me the common denominator. Now I know the things that I’ve been doing wrong over the years. So I can use this time to work on myself and know what to do next time or from now on. I’m learning to walk away from things/people that are no good for me.
On the concept of worry stemming from focusing on what is out of our control, rather than in it, my former pastor said it brilliantly once. I'm not even religious per say and I went to hear his every sermon. Brilliant mind, great thinker, just happened to be a minister. This was when I was, naturally I suppose, panicking and worried sick about my cancer and brain surgery. "You don't control those things. This weight is crushing you because you're trying to do God's job. You're woefully unqualified, we all are. Let what comes, come, and let him do the hard work." Idk if he knew he was stoic or not. I didn't discover this philosophy until years later once he'd retired.
Thank you very much for sharing this important insight on how to prioritise our important life goals n aspirations to enable us avoid overcommitment for superfluous activities n focus on the important ones! 🙂🙏
NO is a powerful one word sentence that took me decades to embrace. I speak this one word sentence without the "need" to explain or justify. Freeing
