100% agree on Crowbar being kings who have mastered the emotional yet brutal dynamic. Can’t praise them enough, such a special band to me. Also, To Achlys by Cult Leader is a BEAUTIFUL song that fits this episode’s theme
Converge’s Cruel Bloom into Wretched World from Axe to Fall is a great combo for me. Also gotta thrown in Winds with Hands by Pelican, one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
I remember that moment from that documentary where that dude from battalion of saints kinda slags off the bad brains reggae stuff.... I'm a san diegan. Battalion of saints... from san diego... a beach town. From Oceanside to Imperial Beach we're bombarded with awful reggae. Context is key in this situation. Bo is a Chicago guy. He'll never know the plight of hours of nonstop reggae music in SoCal. Just give us the hard stuff.
Forgive me if this is asking too much, but y'all should really try to incorporate clips into the show so people can sample the tunes you're talking about. I know it means more production, but it'd add a new dimension to the show.
There are a couple of (soft) songs on Crowbar`s "Sever The Wicked Hand" ,too that i loved so much! ("Echo An Eternity" & the Instrumental Song "A Farewell to Misery" could be a Film Score !) btw. one of my favorite Bands!
Always thought if "So Many Nights" doesn't blow this band into the mainstream nothing ever will. Didn't happen, but that song remains one of the hardest soft songs of all time.
Some tearjerkers: Ramallah - True Crime, Strife - Slipping, VOD - Jada Bloom, 108 - Early Funeral, Morbid Angel - Desolate Ways, Machine Head - The Burning Red Integrity - Eighteen, Heaven Shall Burn - Given In Death, Sick of it all - Souvenir.
@@urmumsbaps really? That must be a new thing. It was all about the first two records when I started listening to them. That’s cool if it’s changed though
Pantera: cemetery gates, Type O: sept sun, Bleeding Through: line in the sand, Killswitch: end of heartache, in flames: come clarity, Down: stone the crow…love HL reverence for Crowbar, Misfits. Great pick on the kingdom of sorrow
Just the first pick, and its already Out On An Island - my compliments, mr. Young. Haven't finished watching it yet, but I'll be disappointed if there's no Could You Love Me by MP on the list.
Good God...I had never heard Two Snowflakes before. Had to pause the episode to go listen....immediate goosebumps and I am now levitating uncontrollably
I’m new to type o, in fact it’s bc this show that I even became interested. And love you to death is a top Spotify track for me this year. i can’t get enough of it.
SOMETIMES I NEED THE FUEL I DRAIN FROM YOU THAT LASTING DOSE TURNS COLD AND BLUE And it's exactly how Colin describes it, me and my homie would blast this as loud as the speakers could possibly go and yell along with teary eyes 😢 Colin got me in my feels with this and "Grim heart/Black Rose" 😞
The fact that the first and only song that came to mind for this one is "Cycles of Suffering" by Laid 2 Rest (CT motherfucker, and the track is not by any means "soft," but rather, melodic; it is a ballad!) tells me I am a goddamned caveman and desperately need some palate-refinement. 🙏
This was sick but I straight up cannot wait for hard songs by soft bands. That shit is gonna KILL.
Army of me by bjork
Machine Gun by Portishead
any track from softkill
First album by sugar ray

cruel bloom gotta be one of the sickest songs ever recorded
The untitled acoustic track on Fire in our Throats (or it might be called - or something like that) is up there for me
I really love Converge’s “The Dusk in Us” title track. Picks up a good bit towards the end, but its soft overall and such a mesmerizing song.
Props for shouting out Pelican. Such a brilliant, heavy and beautiful band.
Colin cares so much about sequencing that he changed this episode's theme to make the hardlore podcast album a better overall experience. Hahaha
Converge cover of “Disintegration.”
Ma! MA!! GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE, NEW FUCKIN HARDLORE IS ON!!!
Need this playlist to drop!
Bo's #3 is an edgebreak... you gotta be smoking something crazy to pull a stunt like that.
Next Hardlore episode: Reviewing Colin and Bo’s Spotify Wrapped
CONVERGE'S NO HEROS FOR LIFE!
Down's first album, NOLA, came out in 95, a year before Trendkill.
Slipping by Strife immediately comes to mind. For me, that was left field after hearing every Strife song prior.
Black Sabbath - Changes
…I dare you not to have an emotional response… if you don’t you may be a serial killer
FYI, James actually plays the solo on Nothing Else Matters. Fact!
I’m glad you guys showed love to Rock For Light. That’s always been my favorite, but people used to tell me I was crazy back in the day.

Favorite part of my week! Love these guys! Would love to see a definitive guitar tuning tier list!

Please Colin do more work!
It’s probably a copywrite issue
@@taylor2473 I don't see how, lesser known shows get away with it no problem, may have to do with how long the track is played for.
@@BabyfaceThompson you’re probably right, maybe it would make the episode too long

also Odd Fellows Rest title track
1000% !!! @@ericwsahlsten
Could not agree more Crowbar does soft songs right
So glad Into Another gets love on this show.
“I’m forever near a stereo saying, ‘What the fuck is this garbage?’ And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.”
― Nick Cave
Just realized that Nick Cave's entire discography would be perfect for "Hard Songs by Soft Bands" but I doubt they will mention him
Stagger Lee on Murder Ballads is hard af@@MetalVolcano
AYO, COLIN IS A MY DYING BRIDE GUY?! LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I honestly never thought I would see the day GNR is on a hardlore list. My mind is completely blown. 🤯
Fr fuck em 😂
I'm also a no heroes man. Grim Heart Black Rose is one of their best songs. unbelievable
Dreams in Inertia by Code Orange could be on the list
Im so stoked to see them in February, hope they play that one
I had to look up that My Dying Bride clip and omfg it did not disappoint lmaooo
Merry Christmas Guys
So happy collin picked could you love me! I fucking love maximum penalty! Life jacket could also be on the list.
15:00 I agree 100% about Merauder's "find my way".
Fucking love that song and that bridge (the alternate version is cool too btw)
01:04:38 suicide note pt1. Agreed 100%
Also with "floods" and "t0's" from the same album
Always thought if "So Many Nights" doesn't blow this band into the mainstream nothing ever will. Didn't happen, but that song remains one of the hardest soft songs of all time.
Bo did you really think you would get away with putting New York City on this list
When I read this comment I thought it was just a joke. I can’t believe this guy tried to weasel it in there 😭
Best duo on youtube🫡🫡
The brothers from Kingdom of Sorrow is who Keith Buckley just started his new band with
Bad Brains- the greatest of all! Awesome to see them mentioned!
There goes Bo again...
Someone make the playlist
Every time I take a little break from Hardlore, I forget how fucking funny these two are together, chemistry is unmatched.
Hank Crane OLW number 1 for sure. "His words grew thin and hollow" part holy hell
bo really picked new york city by madball lmao
Some tearjerkers: Ramallah - True Crime, Strife - Slipping, VOD - Jada Bloom, 108 - Early Funeral, Morbid Angel - Desolate Ways, Machine Head - The Burning Red Integrity - Eighteen, Heaven Shall Burn - Given In Death, Sick of it all - Souvenir.
1:23:45 James actually recorded that solo, not Kirk!
Sonic excess is a very underrated crowbar record
Is it? Nearly every Crowbar fan I know has it as their #1 and it's #1 on rateyourmusic also
@@urmumsbaps really? That must be a new thing. It was all about the first two records when I started listening to them. That’s cool if it’s changed though
It's been my fav since i listened to it.
From the more recent stuff i think that Higher Place by Malevolence is one of my picks for sure.
Goddamn Malevolence is so good, “The Other Side” is another good contender of theirs
Sonic excess is such a killer record.
Pantera: cemetery gates, Type O: sept sun, Bleeding Through: line in the sand, Killswitch: end of heartache, in flames: come clarity, Down: stone the crow…love HL reverence for Crowbar, Misfits. Great pick on the kingdom of sorrow
James wrote and played the solo to Nothing Else Matters. Bo being such a big Metallica fan should know this.
It’s in the damn video too but hey
it's hardlore time

Kingdom of Sorrow only ever put out two albums, unfortunately. I liked their blend of heavy but sorrowful.
"Let's make history.." CHILLS
01:02:48 "could you love me" by MAXIMUM PENALTY is one of the first songs i had in mind when first reading that video title...
This song is a GEM !
I’m new to type o, in fact it’s bc this show that I even became interested. And love you to death is a top Spotify track for me this year. i can’t get enough of it.
need another 3 hour special
THE LASTING DOSE! YES!!! CROWBAR ETERNAL!!
Sinking - The Beautiful Ones
So glad Hank Crane was mentioned, no surprise from Colin though. I’ve always loved that song since I first heard OLW but never hear anyone mention it.
for those that are into that kinda stuff , Adventures covers Behind This Wall on their split with Pity Sex
Wait what, you know about My Dying Bride?! Paradise Lost should follow! Also, never thought you’d give a shout out to Shatter by Triptykon!
If anyone hasn’t listened to Departure by Twitching Tongues you absolutely should. Beautiful.
I need the Lore Harddd right now
GNR love. And let’s discuss Duff’s Bass Tone is the best.
Never agreed more with the lasting dose, What a fucking track

I thought “Don’t cry” was a Mogwai song forever. Also, I always considered “Come back” by the Misfits to be a tear jerker. Like some sad western.
Come Back has always been my favourite Misfits song. Such a vibe.
As far as Crowbar goes, you could choose EMBRACING EMPTINESS & TIME HEALS NOTHING. Both are overwhelmingly emotional and what feels as personal.
ITS HARDLORE TIME
Dunno if it features in the ep cos I'm at the beginning still. But Stolen Days by Hope Con. OUR GREATEST MOMENTS CAN'T BE STOLEN.
it’s a sin to skip the hardlore intro, like the sopranos
Yes
Back to the ocean wisdom in chains
FUCK I can’t believe I left out Wisdom. Mathematics should be on here 100%.
Good one !
The hidden acoustic track on "class war" is pretty emotional too :
ruclips.net/video/OoYGAaagGI8/видео.html
Please listen to Converge’s Disintegration cover. Please for the love of God
I had to pause this to look up that My Dying Bride voice crack, it was worth it 😭
The Lasting Dose is the best Crowbar song.
Dudes please put a list of references in the info under the video when you do a show like this, would be the absolute shit
I got into Triptykon thanks to Hardlore baby.
Dunno if hardlore fans fuck with Loathe but Is It Really You would be perfect for this
Wait wait! Wasn't James the lead on that solo in NEM??? I could have sworn he was!
HELLO WELCOME
Johnny Cash “I still miss someone” is in my top 3 JC songs shout out sheer terror
Forgive & remember by Twitching Tongues
This song to me, will forever be in memory of Cayle Sain. Rest in Power, Cayle.
"I Don't Mind" By Defeater
hope you dudes are into Anhedonist, they were the maybe best death doom band of the last 15yrs imho.
I just started watching this episode and I’ll be so sad if there’s no defeated

Me brother
The fact that I'm so Tired by Fugazi wasn't on this list is absurd.
what an intro
Bo has got to be trolling. He knows Hetfield does the Nothing Else Matters solo 😮💨 he was using Kirk's dark blood pedal tho, so he's partially right.
Nothing More from Crowbar hits me like a ton of bricks every time I hear it.
Apple Music>>>
Madball new york city lmao i had the same reaction.
Bout time someone put some respeck on Creed name
I know I'm 7 months late. But you and I by tui is 100000% not a love song lol, "you and I can't coincide" Still an absolute banger
Marrow by Yob
Yob deserves WAY more love outside their particular scene. They’re up there as top bands that can simultaneously be super heavy and super emotional
@@jbasti227 agreed!
