Could the Normcore V2 Grinder be the cheapest way to espresso? Comments welcome! Subscribe for more tips! www.youtube.com/@TomsCoffeeCorner?sub_confirmation=1
I think it depends on the type of portafilter or what is considered to be an espresso. In the case of portafilters f it's a pressurized one, you can get away with basically any commercial size grind or grinder, even the bladed cheap one not meant to grind coffee beans, but nuts. If it's a non pressurized one, then I think you can go even cheaper. In my case, I recently bought a Timemore C3 (~ 75 euro, but you can go even cheaper with the older C2 model) and I use it for my Dedica. The downside: there is really only one setting, 8 or 9 clicks. In the case of what is considered to be an espresso, an Aeropress or any other portable coffee makers do a decent job at a lower price, even the Moka Pot is a good cheap espresso and they also work with basically any commercial size grind or grinder available on the market. Side note: the Amazon uk si de links both point to the uk site to me.
@@cristinmarius Hi there Marius! Thanks for sharing that feedback. I agree with you on all those points. Using pressurized baskets or a Mokka Pot, allows for much more tolerance in grind. I have a Timemore Nano, and that only works at 8 clicks for me with a non pressurized basket. But the Timemore just has 82 micron adjustments. This Normcore claims to have 21 micron adjustments, so it seems to be finer in resolution. Are you looking for a DE link? It seems to work for me, but I will update it again. Thanks for the info. Cheers! Tom
using it for a year now and its like on day one - flawless! doing v60 only with that grinder and i have to adjust the grind settings sometimes between 15 (schwarzmond jupiter) and 25 (barbera sidamo gr.1) to get a tasty cup. but thats the game we play 😉
For the price, it’s a very nice grinder. The 1Zpressos have the advantage of 12.5 micron adjustment, but this at 21 microns it still pretty decent. 👍🏻 I also really like the case!
I was thinking of getting this grinder but saw a few people saying their handles broke multiple times which was really a turn off for me. I might look into a timemore or 1zpresso even though it a little more money.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner yeah actually it just a couple reviews that said the handle broke on Amazon Canada. I was actually looking at the kingrinder k0 since its the cheapest too. Any chance of you reviewing any kingrinder? :D
Hi Tom. I had this grinder for about a week now. I'm using a grocery bought beans (Lavazza) and dialed it all the way down to 5 clicks from closed setting but the grinds is still not fine enough for my espresso machine (Stilosa / bottomless portafilter with 16g of beans). Extraction is coming out a little fast (15-20 seconds for 60ml). Not sure if I have a faulty grinder or is it beans. I tried dialing it to 4 clicks but sometimes the burrs are touching sometimes is not. Getting frustrated 🥴
@@naldozurc7635 it is a lot of frustrating, and there are better grinders out there than this. Consider the R3 from MHW bomber. Or, the K4 or K-6. As for this one, I would suggest trying a little bag of freshly roasted beans, and seeing if your results are better. They should be.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom. I would definitely try a fresh bag of beans and see if it makes any difference. If not, i would definitely return it and go for the ones that you recommend. I guess it's back to the pressurized basket for now
Is there anyway you can get Kingrinder K3 or 4 on your hands and review it? It looks really promising at least on paper and at 100-110 euros seems like a good deal. But I can't really find any sort of review about it anywhere...
I have been curious on the Kingrinder myself, and pulled the trigger on it this weekend. It'll take a little time to arrive. Expect a video probably in January. Cheers! Tom
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I grabbed a k1 for espresso, I liked it so much I upgraded 2 months after, gifted the k1 to my brother, and now I have a K6, wonderful grinder.
Yes, you can see that the grinder is capable of doing so. You just have to dial it in. My first shot was way too fine, but the second one was pretty close. 👍🏻
What's the music while grinding the beans? & holy crap my arms would be sore if I done that for so many seconds. This may seem like a stupid question but do you stop the machine at 30 grams or whatever or slightly before anticipting the amount? I ask because if I want 30g and i stop at 30g the machine drips a bit more and i get 40 or so etc.
Hi there! The music is from artlist. The track is called Out of Flux by Maximum. So, I just stop the machine shortly before 30 grams, and switch out the glasses quickly. At least that is how I normally do it. Yeah, I just had the grinder set way too fine to start with. It should take right around a minute for espresso... Thanks for watching!
You stop at 30s and quickly swap it out with a drip cup, or let it drip into the drip tray. It seems a bit of a waste but the stuff after that doesn’t taste so good.
Thanks a lot for all your stuff! I got a dedica and a timemore C2 and I can't reach a crema with a simple filter. Is the timemore C2 a good grinder for expresso?
Well crema has even more to do with the beans than the grinder. The C2 can grind fine enough, but is not great for dialing in espresso. When were your beans roasted?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for your answer I'll ask the seller, and try with fresh bean With the timemore C2, It take me more than 3min to grind at 8 clicks so I give up. May I have to buy a better grinder?
Dazu hier bitte das Video schauen: ruclips.net/video/p1XF9pBHZiw/видео.html
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I've never heard of this grinder? What makes you like this one (and this version) more than the other 2? I just grabbed the C3 Max Pro for a very good price on Amazon, so price is also a factor for me.
Nice kit with many accessories and a cool way to save space with the handle attached, but the grinder itself is not even remotely close to be the cheapest way to espresso or the best among sub-$100 models. There are less expensive grinders with 48mm burrs, smaller steps (18 micron) and better build quality (designed to support electric drills).
Thanks for that, OB. The kinggrinder comes to mind, but I have not tested that myself yet. Which ones would you recommend in the sub $100 range? And which one supports an electric drill?

I have the 1st version for a year now paired with Gaggia Classic. 3 clicks and 17gr in 34gr out in 30sec with medium light roast. PERFECT

Good stuff! Glad you are enjoying the grinder!
Well seems good as you can go too fine but should by now you know what micron size builds the right pressure in your machine
Isn't it possible to lower the extraction pressure on this Delonghi?
