Moisture meters read "conductivity" of electricity.. That could be why it beeped more near the tow rail. Eg the stainless bolts (perhaps). . Its the same if you measure near copper wiring or chainplates etc. Not saying there isnt moisture.. But if there are metal fasteners under your deck (say, in the headliner) , they could be giving you that reading. Its always important to know what is nearby when measuring water. Some antifouls also give false reads.

Even if you encounter a huge obstacle from time to time, I'm 100% sure you'll find a good way to deal with it. Rock on!
    Cheers, Alex

Pro tip : watch movies at Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

    Well that was bad news!
Trying to dry it out with heat only might be very time consuming as somebody already mentioned.
I would propably cut it open in the areas where it's wet, to speed up the process.
You can drill test holes to see whats going on in the core.
I don't think you need to keep the "plugs", just fill the holes with thichened epoxy later when you are fairing the deck.

I'm not yet going to give up on drying with heat! But I think you are probably right - I need to cut it open to speed up the process...

Dickens! Sometimes I really would like to be closer, to be able to give you a hand…
As you said, Mads (Sail Life) went through a big process to get his deck in ship shape. But that said, the end result is going to be spiffy and well worth all that job! Ask around, watch other here and take your time to think it through, whilst you are into other parts of the project.

You will find plywood under the genoa sheet tracks. This is usually replaced with epoxy when the teak deck is replaced.

Sorry to hear about the decks. The meter was OK then?

The meter isn't great - next update I can show you some comparisons. Its basically the way it is made, it is very sensitive to any levels of moisture and doesn't really show the 'in between' levels.

thanks - that is really useful information. I will drill out a sample today to check the condition. Do you know if that's all the ply on the deck?

I think so.. try to send a Mail to one of the companies that specialises in teak deck replacement in sweden.

Check out this: www.flickr.com/photos/neldby/albums/72157626958953167. Found these pictures while figuring out what to do with the teakdeck on my HR312.

What kind of survey doesn't include moisture reading of the deck and below the water line. Never heard of this!

Hi , we did see all your videos and they are good, unfortunately you never talk money . We are renovating the 12 m sailing yacht in Northern Ireland and it would be very helpful if you share a bit more info. Feel free to ask us any questions plz.

Thanks for the feedback! Sometimes it'd hard to know what to mention when it comes to money - would it be helpful to know the costs of tools, materials etc? Or the costs to transport etc?
