R.I.P 💔 “I'm trying to learn to love myself. I deserve to be treated with respect. I deserve to be heard. I am a woman and I have something to offer. I have carried around grief over my lost childhood and its horrors. I have a hard time being myself and showing my feelings. I must have released the pain that is blocking me. Otherwise I won't survive. I was angry because I was afraid, but if you listen, you realize that we don't know what we are doing when we make fun of emotions. When we cringe at the sound of children crying, there is a mirror we don't look into. I am an abused child and the whole world needs to hear about it, and about all other abused children. We don't shut up just because people don't want to hear about it.” Sinéad O'Connor
Just watched this today. Can’t say I’m a fan of her music (just not my thing) she was undeniably an immense talent. And that she stood strong in her convictions is a testament to her integrity and will power. That’s some real punk rock shit. I was quite surprised Prince’s estate didn’t allow the us of “ Nothing Compares 2 U” in the film, considering it was her who made it a massive global hit. I can’t help but wonder how Prince would have felt about this. RIP to two legends.
@@LimerickWarrior1 the easiest laziest insult to give a woman is to call her crazy. Most women who use their voice loudly to call out injustices are called crazy. Heck, most women who just use their voice loudly are called crazy. It’s the universal, go-to label to keep women down, mute her, vilify her, oppress her, devalidate her, undermine her, discredit her, etc . And it’s almost always totally unfounded and invalid.
I'm not sure what I think about the documentary. It focused a lot on the birth of her first child and ignored the three others. There was zero mention of her battle with mental illness. Maybe because it was made when she was still alive and these omissions were her choice. It just made me feel empty and sad. There was more to the story. Rest in peace Sinead. I'm glad you said you had no regrets xo
I want to respectfully say that the documentary is punctuated with evidence of her mental health struggles. To be that severely abused as a child and come out of it unscathed isn't fathomable.
She promoted spirituality. She was a devout Catholic early on, went to a Spiritualist centre when she was married and became a Muslim because it made sense to her. I sense that she was very anti-institutional religion.
THANK HER PARENTS for the miserable life she went through. An actively defiant individual is not a good foundation for becoming a star, but that's not what she apparently was looking for. She didn't want to conform, especially when it came to her career. Her look, was radical and abusive to most audiences, especially American, she looked like a boy in drag, but she didn't care. Having a following of activists, feminists, lesbians and radical haters of society were her base. She CHOSE which direction to take in life and suffered the consequences . She even raised a child, a son she lost custody of that eventually committed suicide. Her one hit wonder, " Nothing Compares," which was a beautiful song, showed her sensitivity and became an instant success. Her refusal to perform if the National Anthem was played started her demise. Many said, "If you don't want the Anthem to play and you don't like AMERICA, then don't come here and take AMERICAN MONEY!" Her appearance on SNL would be the decisive act that would end her career. Her drive to be so radical cut off any chance of continuing her success. She could have done so much more. It's a tragic story and a tragic life. Either way, she made her mark. She brought it all on herself. She loved the power of DEFIANCE. IT GAVE HER A CAREER AND TOOK IT AWAY.
@briana9918 Very well said, Brian. I couldn't agree with you more. Her choice about the National Anthem was not respected. She was abused for daring to state what she wanted at her OWN concert. She was censored - not a very good look for people who claim to respect freedom and hate being cancelled.
I'm so glad this was made and she wrote her autobiography before she died, so she got to tell her own story. A tremendous woman, gone far too soon.
Rip 🙏
Both are amazing, the woman even more so... may she RIP❤

Prince doesn't compare to Sinead. In no way. She spoke truth to power. Prince took the easy road.
No. 1 is right... that's why they allowed it as the
title... and rightly so
"They tried to bury me... they didn't realize I was a seed"
That has got to be one of the most Punk in Your Face Quotes Ever 2B spoken. Long Live Sinead O'Connor. We Miss U, We Love U, We Hear U. ❤🩹🤘
Rest in Peace SINÉAD!, Brave wounded warrior and Troubadour of Truth. We won't forget!
Hands up those who actually supported her while she was alive.
...oh so few?
So many jumped on the bandwagon.
An extraordinary artist wrongly vilified. The time is right for a Sinead Renaissance!!💚💙💜
She was insane, tattoos on her face as warning about her exs....ffs . A great talent no doubt but nuts
I agree, her time has come

yep , honesty cost her $$ but her comments (about the catholic church) with hindsight are accurate & wudn't be controversial now .
@@margotmacewen with men the classic put-down descriptor is "creepy" .

Sinead was a modern Joan of Arc. She left her Gem in her music.
Incredible
I want to watch it 😭
💯
Yes!
Nice
RIP

@@harmstro2 eso explica todo! Ella no estaba en contra de la espiritualidad. Sino en contra de la institucionalización de las creencias ❤
In Spain it's still banned
SHE DIED A MUSLIM AND ONLY JESUS HAS THE POWER TO SAVE THATS WHY HES THE SON OF GOD THE SAVIOUR AMEN
Yeah. This is a Wendy’s. What would you like to order?

That's a load of crap. Get off your high horse. Sinead was a human being. Are you?
