I just love how Ip Man just counters this man's flying kick by snatching him up in midair and throwing him to the ground like he's a kid.
Yeah that requires a ton of strength. The Tai Chi guy later (Master Wan Zong Hua) used a counter that's more reasonable.

That's actually even one of the most realistic counters an elite level martial artist would do lol It's like with these Capoeira fighters. They do all these fancy moves, but you can give them a front kick and they fall down.
It'd be funny if there was a commentary track for this movie and Donnie as a narrator said during that moment, "We didn't need Wing Chun for that one."

This scene story logic is great. When at his prime, he can easily defeat 10 black belts. Now that he’s older and ill, he still managed to win a black belt but can see that it’s a bit tougher than at his prime. Loved how the story portray his phrase in the earlier ip man “no one can stay undefeated forever. We will grow old”.

Something I always appreciate about these fights, in shonen anime whenever a stronger/more skilled person shows their moves, the opponent often is treated like they're nothing, even if it's an opponent who's trained for several decades. The hero almost always is shown as flawless.
Even in showing that Ip Man is far superior to his opponent, he still took a few solid hits, he was still human.

Plus the villain had already exhausted some of his energy by fighting 3 other opponents before him, which justifies old ipman’s lower stamina matching with the younger villain’s stamina.
Because Ip Man was already way past his prime.
@@ScytherOnSpree Also, within the story, this guy is a trained US marine. He is an active soldier who does all physical exercises of the US armed forces. Compared to that, the Kung Fu masters are ordinary civilians.

3:58 the trajectory of Ip man’s story is quite believable here. He has gotten older considerably and is not the same man that fought Muira, but he’s is still a step above everyone else
Don't forget that he has gained the experience of fighting against fighters who used Karate and Boxing in the first two movies which is why he able to held his own in this and the 3rd movie despite his old age.
He's also taken a lot of injuries by this point in the franchise, including within this movie.

This scene resonates with many asians who've encountered some foreigner who thinks he's the best and have the right to bullyiothers. IP man is a great symbol for heroism and a form of escapism that people can fight back even though we are challenged with highschool bullying or world conflict.

Well I think it mostly comes down to dedication to the craft. Even if you are the best there's no need to gloat and brag about it. So I'm glad there's an outlet expressing the annoyances people have faced over the years. The fact that people are still trying to say boxing beats crane is hilarious. Like imagine Mike Tyson using the crane technique and tell me if he was properly trained in it, he wouldn't be more deadly.

Little did the American guy know that this Wing Chun master beat tf outta 10 black belts and almost killed a general, knocked out someone called Twister, punched another good Wing Chun fighter (TWICE) like 8 feet, almost kicks a boxer in the balls when he was about to punch him in the face. Now in this movie he severely injured a (navy person or soldier) by twisting their arm, punching their eye, and finally doing the throat jab

This clip shows one thing. Size and strength matter. Your technique has to be way better and very efficient, if you want to take down a bigger, stronger and well trained guy. Also fighting experience matters. I'm not sure how many times these masters have fought someone else than their students, how many times they've fought for life as IP Man has.

Keep in mind, like said in an earlier movie, its not the style, its the person.
I'm sure there were other karate practitioners who could have taken Ip man, just as there were probably other kung fu masters that could have taken the karateka.
Ip was really good, and his style diverged greatly from the original wing chun he was taught.
He had years of experience under his belt. Its not about wing chun vs karate, but HIS wing chun vs his OPPONENTS karate.
It wasn't his wing chun that made him strong, but him who made his wing chun strong.
It is why people look for strong competent teachers, even if the style is the same, the spirit it is taught with can be the key factor.

This is my favorite scene from the movie, all of the masters are surprised that Ip could stand up to Collin after 3 of their own were defeated, and when ip pushed Collin away and the other masters stood up and smiled and wow'd in awe, you gotta appreciate that ip is on another level.

As a first dan black belt in karate, I have to say they’ve really done their homework with this scene. Although the writings corny, the techniques are fairly accurate, like the punches, blocks, and kicks. It’s refreshing to see it, because so often they’re doing quadruple mega spinning chop-side kicks and stuff that looks cool, but is completely unrealistic
so what about the technique where IP man starts the fight with that ridiculous throw? if that's not straight superhero BS, i don't know what is

I would say Wing Chun - Simplicity, at difference from other Kung Fu styles, Wing Chun not have flashy moves or complicated katas, before Ip Man popularise it, it was consider a woman martial arts, Wing Chun is good when you are nearly a middle age man and you lost the agility when you were young.

@@alexandergrafvonrothensteinKarate is more easy, you use your hands more, Taekwondo you use more your legs, and I nearly forty, and I lose all my agility in my legs, Wing Chun it seems very simple to learn and very hard to master, but any movement is permitted, there is not specific katas that you need to learn, you can use your arms and elbows to block a punch, and there is not much movement on the legs, and of course, you can practice in whatever pole that you can find, being of wood, metal or concrete, if you cant buy a doomy.

Underrated!
When you look at ip-man you can tell hes reached a point of his life of retirement. So much experience and skill that he uses it as a referee rather then looking for challenges. I like this version of him and what hes become apart from the cancer.
Master Ip bridged the distance perfectly at the end of the movie. He didn’t initiate control but executed the movement perfectly

@@DrSMILE-xc1dp I haven't watched all of One Punch Man, but as far as I know, Saitama always defeats his does easily. There's never a moment when he was really losing a fight. Ip man, however, doesn't have it as easily when fighting certain opponents. Also, he never defeats a single person in one punch.

I saw Ip Man 4 early last year (2020) and really enjoyed it.
One detail I loved was how the first fighter in this sequence has mellowed and grown much kinder since the events of Ip Man 2, but he's still a sore loser.
