Excellent info and zero fluff. Thank you! I hung a vine in a community scrape this year where the tree had grown too tall for the deer to hit the original licking branch. SO far it's getting some attention but not as much as i hoped.

Give it some time. Human pressure and security cover or lack there of can play a role. Don’t be afraid to even try a different location next year for a mock scrape. Good Luck this fall.

Thanks for the info. Very straight forward and no preaching, just teaching. I am curious about tying in a branch as apposed to a vine. Not many (close to zero) vines where we hunt, but plenty of cedars, pines, oaks, maples, and poplars. Most scrapes around us are under some kind of pine or fir. Wondering if using a branch from an oak or maple would work just as well as a vine.
    Good luck in the woods!

It should still work. I would try a cedar branch as it has more of a natural aroma and the texture is similar to a vine.

The place where I put my mock scrape I placed it under a cedar tree. What’s unique about this tree is that I call it the lonely cedar tree for the next 400-450 yards. I noticed many trails going to it and splits off. Another unique feature is that it’s very secluded, about 3/4 miles deep into the woods behind cover and brush. That’s when I knew that was my spot for a mock scrape.
Yesterday (10-8-22) i had 2 does come in 5 mins after shooting time started that came to my scrape and left. I didn’t shoot it because it was very foggy barely 10 feet visibility so I never knew it was there. I was pissed after I had check my trail cam on how close they were.

When do you start the mock scrape?

I start them at the end of July and the doe families tend to hit them immediately or at least a few days after.
