Mock scrapes are extremely effective for getting intel on big bucks and even for placing a set-up. However, not all locations are created equal. Some areas are going to be way more effective for others for setting up your mock scrape. Here is what I look for when setting up my mock scrape locations and what I avoid. #bowhunting #deerhunting #mockscrape

3 Lessons I Would Tell My Younger Self to Do Differently as a Bowhunter
I live in North Carolina but I hunt in Ohio t Kansas I use 6 volt external golf cart batteries use them for years work great
I’ve been recently bumping up my external batteries to those too and yes, they do work great!
I’m a dog trainer and some of my clients think I’m being ridiculous when I tell them not to allow their dogs to dig or to carry sticks. There is blasto in my area. My dogs are always outdoors and swimming. But like you, I am careful about where they swim, not letting them dig in muck or carry rotted sticks. So glad Chloe is okay. I’m going to share this video with my clients. Thanks for posting it.
Great videos man
What about bale wire lock
That would work.
I engrave my last name, last four, and the serial number onto the camera on the interior of the door area (not the door). I also place a gps warning sticker on it and label it one of many (4 of 17). The python lock is on and the camera has a camo skin along with natural looking fake leaves for a breakup in appearance. Another method is to label/engrave it "Property Of XX State Game Warden Division" or use a generic game warden sticker and place a green temper resistant seal on all operating doors. You'd have to be stupid to mess with a game warden gps tracked camera.
Great video!!! I mentioned before in one of your other videos that i’ve had surgery on both my shoulders (impingement) in which 3 bones were scraped in order to relieve it. I was/still am a gym rat but due to all the surgeries and abuse of the body over the decades (Marine Corps, 22+ yrs as a professional firefighter, & 13+ years playing beer league hockey & the gym) my workout exercises have been cut in half. I really liked how you made the reference with starting a vehicle in 2nd gear, because I’ve OFTEN referenced my body as a car using different analogies (my favorite as of late is saying that my body/car feels like its been running in the Nascar series for over 300,000 miles without a tune up until we just got a jacuzzi recently, now i feel like i can go another 100,000 miles LOL, i’m not a salesman for jacuzzi’s but i do push them to anyone that has to work their body hard ie blue collar workers) Keep up with all the vids!!! I’m learning alot and getting great ideas!!! Thanks!!!!
Man! I see I’m going to have to make more training videos! Thanks for watching brother!
Just discovered your channel 2 yrs after you made this vid and loving every video i’ve seen. I’ve had shoulder surgery on both shoulders and suffer from arthritis because of it, really looking forward to the vid to strengthen shoulder for bow hunting!!!!
Thank you for watching all those videos. I’m going to post a video I did awhile back. And since you requested, I will make an updated video on exact shoulder strengthening exercises for my clients. Here is the that video I mentioned earlier. I will work on the shoulder video within the next 2 weeks. ruclips.net/video/VXsYjh2W6Ww/видео.htmlsi=_S6pNLQ92uJp42Hu
If memory serves me right I think they make re-chargeable lithium batteries. If they do that might be the route to go
👍
Great content man.
Thanks for watching and good luck this fall. 👍🦌
Great ideas! Looking at your pitot tube, it looks like it should be replaced. Just my opinion. Love how you came up with these!
Once you've cleaned out your electrical connectors with the vinegar etc put some of that dilectric grease on the male end of the connector and plug the female end in. Also, that sandpaper can bring spark plaugs back to live if they're really nasty by sanding clean the terminals... it's not a permanant fix but it'll get you home.
Like where you took that piece. You got a sub out of it.
Nice video.
Setup a password
I know how setup a password just go in to your trail camera go down were it says password pick your password number s
Don't harvest that buck. If you are lucky enough to have a large buck with healthy genetics. Leave him to make babies. It would be like harvesting a prize bull because he is so large. The amount of offsprings created, out weigh the amount harvested from him. The best thing you could do. Is talk to your neighbors and get on the same page. My family has implemented these practices for decades. Our freezers stay full and the deer population around our area has stayed healthy and abundant.
I feel this sort of thing all started in the early 90's with Bill Jordan/ Realtree and Jackie Bushman and the big TV show guys. They never shot a small buck and allowed it on video and the only game we watched getting harvested was the " monster bucks" It's just naturally instilled in us from the first big time hunting shows and videos... If your not shooting a giant, then your not like the serious hunters... As we was made to believe... We know now those guys always hunted big managed farms where employees kept track of the mature animals year around and had everything set up once the TV crew and show host showed up. Within a couple days they shoot the buck they picked out that would make good video and we was made to believe they was all masters at finding mature bucks and shooting them.
I agree with everything you said.
Could you also add a solar panel to keep battery up over time?
You can but you have to be careful. You can actually short your battery/camera out as you need away to regulate the amount of solar power.
Thank you for the tips very helpful to a new / old boat owner
Thank you for watching brother.
So out of curiosity, any idea why the tactacam reveal isn’t reflecting the battery life? I followed the steps in your build, but I can’t find anything in tactacam forums on why they aren’t reading/reflecting battery levels.
The camera reflects the battery life in the app and on the camera itself. However, it only reflects the external battery first.
Hey Clint, you better go back, you left your battery boxes back there! lol 😂
LOL!!! I was waiting to see who was the first one to spot that! Yes, I did walk back to get the battery boxes. Wow! One person actually watches one of my videos to the end. I'm impressed. lol
Made a tough decision this summer that I would skip the bow season this year due to some stuff going on in my family. But I think really it’s a decision that will be good for my hunting in the long term. I’ll be able to get ahead of the game in 2025, as you were saying, because I won’t be as rushed around trying to get it done with minimal time available. Love the video man I appreciate your effort and your attitude. God bless.
Thanks for watching and good luck in 2025. 🦌
Great video. Thanks for talking with us. God bless
Thank you for watching. TC.
Good message 😎
I have a lodge I go to every year instead of fooling with leases. Cost me about $4k, but if you do the math, it makes sense. $1200 a year for lease, several work trips and expense with blinds, utvs, camping or hotels. So I figure the actual $4k is about $1k more a year and Instead I have a nice lodge, meals, comradery, Midwestern bucks from a sea of protein, and no headaches. Totally worth it.
Lifetime outdoorsman. Fishing and mostly waterfowl hunting. Always been around deer hunters but never took a interest till my bird hunting dried up. Figured it’s time to be more adaptable and find another outlet to spend time outdoors. So here I am green as can be gearing up for deer season. I will be hunting public exclusively. I look at a deer as something to put on the table. If I get a doe or a scrub buck it’s a trophy to me and my family will enjoy the meals it will provide. More deer hunters need to feel that way. Can’t eat antlers. Good video!
Have you ever used this battery box with the LiPo battery from Tactacam?
No, I have not.
@@oakironoutdoors2436 thank you
We did too!! Landowner went with a lease company out of Indiana and it tripled in price per acre!!! No way a small group of working class guys and a few retirees can make up that big a difference!! Hunting is slowly becoming a rich man's sport!!
Yes, it’s getting tougher. That’s why public land is so key. Good luck this fall. 🦌
Man, you have a great attitude and good diction as well. I decided to hold myself to a bit higher standard of buck in 2023 and passed on a number of deer. Found a lot of big rubs but never the deer that left the sign. Currently scouting my tail off to find a big one. Also, 53-years old and just started hitting the road with a weighted vest to trim about 20 extra pounds. Good luck this fall and thank you for the fine content.
Thank you for watching and good luck this fall. The hard work will pay off.🦌
Good topic. Positivity is key.
💯
2004 is old??? 😂Try a 16’ 1980 Monarch with a Mariner…Runs like a top!
You forgot about the fact that once people actually have money to buy a boat, they get all googly eyes and overlook a lot of things. Like very important things. My first boat, I was so excited I forgot to check the transom. Which was of course rotten. Nice video.
What you pointed at as the rain fly is not the rain fly. That was the rifle/bow holder. The rain fly is underneath on the bottom of the pack.
Pitot tube speedometers are crap. Just use your phone if you need to know how fast you are going. Why anyone needs a speedo on a boat, I have no idea. Everything I own, except my truck, is old. The truck was a mistake.
Thanks man, these are great tips!
I try to go in deep enough someone cant just get out of there car and quickly find my cameras. I try to go about 2 miles in at least. I also try to put them in a hard to reach area. My current spot is almost like a seasonal swamp. half the year you have to walk threw mud and ankle deep water. most wont go out there because of the mosquitos and cotton mouths. Great information loved the video.
Is this camera designed for Li.ion? Or what's solution for 1.5 v x 4 battery configuration.Expert.inputs appreciated
Not sure.
I have a cheaper camera that takes 4 AA's the lithium batteries won't work, the camera is disabled when it detects ~6.5V or more. New Lithium AA are ~1.8V x 4 = 8.2V alkaline are 1.6V x 4 = 6.4V. They do drop once connected but not enough to get below the 6.5V
Edit: lithium are 1.7V x 4 = 6.8V
Right when I was gonna stamp this guy “rookie of the year” 😂 for putting piping hot coffee in a thin red solo cup this dude puts the lid on the thing, it’s a ceramic coffee cup made to look like the classic solo cup we drank from at “study hall” … he done learned me, now let’s see if he can fish….😂 Quick update he can cook too?
😂
This is seriously the best video how-to on RUclips! Thank you for this! You filled in all the blanks for me and even added some new ideas. Awesome guide!!!!! I’ll be watching more of you now.
Thanks for watching!
I ended up trying the bone bracket after watching this. I had a set of antlers from a buck I shot a couple years ago. I painted the skull cap black and the display looks great on my wall! I recommend this to anyone.
I've wanted one of these forever, and I don't even wear hats!
Check out there website at www.strormykromer.com. You won’t be disappointed.
I have friends that have been rocken the stormy kromer since the seventies. Being from Kaukauna we always took pride in Stormy Kromer hats. Loved the video.
Thanks for watching.
I love my Stormy Kromers. I have five so far, meaning there will be more added. Lol
They are definitely a great, well built hat.
I have a 99 tracker pro V guide…what’s your thought on a dual crank battery
If it's for the trolling motor, I'm not a fan.
If I'm not mistaken the supreme court has decided that taking photos and video on public land is a constitutionally protected right.
I know Idaho doesn't allow you to video for commercial purposes.
Is it possible if I can speak with you some how? I live in Milwaukee, zues my husky got it in lake mills lake. Same everything literally as your dog. Caught it at decent time I think. My vet has zues on itraconazole not the one you had. My vet does know that it’s blasto though. I don’t now if it’s the medication that all these side effects. It’s been about 3 months of constant medication of 200 ml daily split into two servings. Sometimes he seems all good then later he gets very tired and nauseous. Next check up isn’t for a month yet
I would contact your vet immediately or try switching vets that are aware of Blasto.
How are you mounting it on the tree?
I just lay mine on the ground. You could use a ratchet strap running thru the handle on the tree or even a python cable.
@oakironoutdoors2436 Thanks, I just picked up some corner brackets, going to test it out and see how they hold.
What do you have your trigger speeds in on?
As fast as possible. Most of my cameras that setting cannot be changed.
Do you find the 7 Ah batter is enough to last the full season? There are a number of larger 12Ah or 15 Ah batteries out there. Wondering how much is enough?
There are so many factors that play into whether or not a battery is enough, from strength of signal, to flash power to video or pics, pics sent daily or ASAP. The simple rule for me is that if it’s pics only and your at about 20 pics a day then 7ah will work for a whole season. Anything more like 50 pics a day and especially video then go with the 12ah or more. Especially if your like me and you don’t even want to go into an area to disturb it even once.
@@oakironoutdoors2436 thank you!!
Great info in your video. Thanks for taking the time to explain your process and I got a lot out of this video.
Glad it was helpful. 🎣👍
