  • Currently my favorite bike in my stable, this Rivendell Susie Longbolts is a 56cm (LARGE) in Gold with a 700c wheel size. I was in-between sizes Medium and Large according to my PBH (Pubic Bone Height) and Rivendell suggests going with the frame with the wheel size I preferred. Since most of my bikes are 650b I decided to pull the trigger on the Large to switch things up, and I'm glad I did.
    If you're wondering what your PBH is, check out this video link below by ‪@rivbikedotcom‬ how to measure: • Pubic Bone Height - Ho...
    Also a few of you have asked me about the packable jacket I have on all of my bikes - it's the Dravus Jacket by Midnight Caper and here is the link:
    www.midnightca...
    Tried doing this bike check in one take like ‪@anthonysbike‬ but I ended up doing like 20 takes - new found respect for ‪@PathLessPedaledTV‬ and anyone talking in youtube, it's a lot harder not to stutter or ramble on like an idiot than you'd think. I've decided I am in need of some speech classes.

    Thanks for sharing, so glad I found it. I'm also between sizes M-L and I thought the L would spoil the chunky look of the M, but yours looks fabulous! I prefer a bigger frame and now I've seen yours I feel comfortable ordering.

    Love how you're using Paul stuff, silver shifters and cranks, then for the actual gear changing drivetrain bits, it's run of the mill midrange Shimano parts :)

    Love the build, also because it shows where all to spend money. The fact that you spent more money on brakes, levers, rack and handlebars and went easy on drivetrain components make so much sense. Spend on stuff that will last, lesser on parts that will need change after a period. Lovely footage too

      You sure that's the right thinking? Ever heard of Rohloff Speedhub? No front or rear derailleur. Rear cog is reversible, perfect chainline means chain and chainring last longer. I speak from experience having used my Rohloff loaded touring the length of Africa, Europe and South America. The "bling" parts are like jewellery. If you want to build for longevity, there are other choices.

    • @amitkumar-wj8gn
      @amitkumar-wj8gn Год назад

      @@yellowsheeps but doesnt a rohloff hub alone costs 1500 or so dollars? belt drive additional...not everyone will have that kinda money right?

    • @yellowsheeps
      @yellowsheeps Год назад

      @@amitkumar-wj8gn anyone looking at the build in the video (Paul Component, White Industries etc...) can afford a Rohloff hub. Belt drive depends on the frame. A chain will fit any bike frame. The "bling" components used in the build are very expensive and can be substituted with cheaper parts that work just as well (i.e. Shimano, TRP, Dia-Comp etc..) Money saved can go towards a Rohloff. Once you use an internal gear hub, you won't go back to a derailleur system...granted you actually ride your bike and not use it as a museum piece or garage queen.

    Sweet build, I have one of the original run, there was a delay do to a fork issue. I ended up building it up with an old M900 XTR groupo, but I'm thinking of switching the shifters to friction, either the Silvers or the 11 speed version from Soma. I have a large, I was also between sizes, wish I'd the smaller size but I do enjoy the bike.

    • @55whiplash
      @55whiplash 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@hehecheesy It's not so much on the bike but just storing and moving around my overcrowded garage and home. The bike rides like a dream, but it's huge. It gets in the way, really if I hadn't bought a set of 700c Cliffhangers a few months before I might have gone 650B. I spent time on the phone with Will when I bought it and he was very helpful, I can't say I regret having the large but if I had to build from scratch I would buy a medium.

      @@zb3948 Honestly I forgot, I'm shortish for my PBH I remember, I fit fine on my old Homer which is a 61, so I'm a bit of a freak. The Homer has a very short stem with Nitto Noodles 30mm I think. I have the large Suzie, and I would have been fine on a medium, but I had a spare set of 29er wheels, that Rich had built, so I went for the large.

    Beautiful build. One question, is that your regular saddle height? I was wondering about the comfort of riding distances with that saddle and bar setup. I’m just curious if that is a regular setup recommended by Rivendell because Grant is renowned for going against standard practice after putting a lot of thought into his bikes and builds.🙏

    • @noodybynature
      @noodybynature  Год назад +3

      Thanks bud! I honestly don't know if it is my regular saddle height because I didn't set the height on it like how I would normally with my other bikes - only because all of my other bikes have drop bars and my body is sort of positioned differently so I just set the height on this by what felt right to me. Super comfortable on dirt, on climbs, doing 20+ miles pulling two kids in a trailer that add up to about 100lbs, and especially comfortable on dirt descents. Grant says your handlebar should be at least an inch higher than your saddle for every decade you've lived after age 20 so...to each their own I suppose!

    • @philipbyrne3037
      @philipbyrne3037 Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for your reply! I hadn’t heard the reference to adding bar height with age. I would like to try a Rivendell one day. The bikes are beautiful and Grant’s ideas are as much innovative as traditional so it is hard to get an old frame that imitates the performance of a Rivendell!👍❤️
