This is why Hermann is one of the best characters. His instincts as a parent are vital in many harrowing situations like this, and when kids get threatened by dangerous people, you know to stand back when Papa Bear unleashes his rage.
@StarBucks 42367 ah no. he's not. Herrmann got written up by Boden in his final shift as Battalion Chief of 51 before he transfers over to his new district office at Firehouse 90. Herrmann broke protocol by calling Brett over his smartphone because the ambo he called over the radio would take 15mins to arrive and Brett was closer to where they were because Ambo 61 was responding to a wellness checkup a couple of blocks from where the rest of 51 was responding to a vehicle accident. Because he didn't clear it with dispatch until after 61 got the patient to Med, Herrmann broke protocol and instead of Brett getting possibly suspended, he took the fall for her and told Boden to just write him up in the after action report.
@@sirineennadi9654 Since Herrmann called Brett instead of using the Radio, it didn't go through Dispatch, which still led another ambo responding without knowing, and they were tight on ambo at the time. Not going through Dispatch is a breach of protocol. After the call, the new Paramedic Field Chief came to Boden's office, and Sylvie and Herrmann also. He said everything goes through Dispatch and the question to Sylvie was, "Does this warrant a suspension or termination. Herrmann then stood up and took the blame, and it would go on his record saying that he broke protocol and it could hinder him from more promotions in the future like going from Lieutenant to Captain, etc. Boden couldn't put it on his record as his shift was over as Battalion Chief 25 of House 51, and his former Deputy District Chief Office was Head Quarters and Fire House 90. The new Battalion Chief said to Boden, either you write up the report or I will, so one of them did it. A couple of episodes later, Boden's Deputy District Chief Office was moved from Firehouse 90 to Firehouse 51. So if he was there as he is now, Herrmann might not have it on his record, but yeah, that's the gist of it.
@@sirineennadi9654 paramedic chief Hawkins got mad at Hermann and Brett because Hermann put an urgent request for an ambulance once that found that kid in the wreck they missed and was found during overhaul and due to frequent flyers aka people not needing help the nearest ambulance was 15 mins out and Brett and Violet were super close by on a frequent flyer call and Hermann called her on the phone and Hermann kinda forgot to cancel the ambulance and Brett forgot to to mention they were taking the call and because of bs protocol and mistakes being made two ambulances were sent to that call instead of 1 and that other ambulance could of been sent to a different call if one came in
I knew a firefighter who had the same thing happened, except it was a much younger child, only a year old and had been tucked under the seat, she was only discovered after she finally started to cry, she was so scared she went silent
My dad long before I was even born was working as a reserve cop or SAR I can't remember which. He was called to a crash that was horrible. There were 6 people inside of a small mobile home trailer that should have only had 4 as it was that tiny. Dad didn't tell me much about it but they were picking up pieces of the 6 people including the head of one of the victims if that tells you how bad that was. During the clean up someone noticed that there as baby items in shattered around but no baby. Everyone went into search mode praying that they found the baby alive. a minute later they heard crying which was a good sign but they just couldn't figure out where the baby was. Dad even with his hearing be as bad as it was back then could hear the crying louder than anyone else. He pointed his flash light up into the trees to see the baby hanging from his car seat without a scratch. He said that some sort of truck was near by that wasn't 1st responder based. They used that truck to get the baby down and he was taken to the hospital. he was the only survivor The little one was fine and the grandparents were able to get custody of him. Even the the 80s the car seats still saved lives. Dad said that he saw a lot during his few years with the department but he will never forget that day. Not that i would ever blame him.

Would be cool since before he was an actor he was working as a Firefighter and always re-certified. He was at Ground Zero as a firefighter helping search for survivor and clean up. It was only a few years ago that it was relieved that he was at Ground Zero as he wanted the world to focus on the New York 1st Responders instead of him as he said something along the lines of he was there as a firefighter not an actor and the world needed to be focused on them not him.

I got so mad when the Sylvie's Chief ridiculed her and Hermann when they saved that kid's life. Sometimes protocol has to be broken to save a life.

Yeah screw protocols. Human lives are more important.
Who has time for protocol when lives are at stake? You don’t have time to filter through all that crap.
