There are also things that VanVleet is missing in his game though; It would've been nicer if he had used the step backs more often. He would've had more space in his shots. But I guess he believed that the space he had from his moves was enough to create a high percentage shot. The best game of his season was that OT Thriller VS Chicago, It was because Ibaka got ejected that VanVleet was in, and VanVleet was superb, being a solid defender, and stepping up for big shots, this man is the Fourth Option on the Raptors, he's behind some other superb talent like Lowrys over all game, Cory Joseph's assist game, Delon Wright's Defense and Attacking game.
You can really tell the difference between the pro and amateur. The defensive stance, the footwork, how he finishes around the basket and his BASIC fundamentals. Watch him use his elbows and arms to get around them and how he reads his hips
Man that’s incredible defence by Fred. Just hands up and active all the time. Never giving the opponent a chance to rest and almost rushing the other guy in some ways.
I would love to see Poole and Vanvleet run this back now that both have improved so much! Poole was only just out of high school at this point and now he will be one of the elite guards in the league in the years to come. Even Vanvleet went through a huge evolution since this was filmed
I still remember when I first watched this video, Fred was still struggling as a pro. And I had no idea about who is Jordan Poole. 4 years later, Fred is a Champion now, and Jordan Poole played for Warriors. So much memory and emotions when you looked back at those. Amazing video bro
2 NBA champions in this video, wow. I could never get close to them in terms of skill, but I learned a lot. Really impressive how Fred creates space off of just footwork alone
NBA players are so good they make it look easy, especially on TV. Standing courtside watching pros play basketball, it's insane how quick and how skilled they are
watching fred is entertaining cause hes actually regular size at 6ft going against nba size... he has no wasted or unnecessary movement and footwork is crazy
Nigga how is he a raw Kyle Lowry his game is very polished; he plays reactive and has many dimensions to his game. He does remind me of Lowry but he isn't a raw player.
Ahmet Sanchez you sleep. Nigga went undrafted and shown he can ball. He played a crucial part in 4th Q comebacks for the Raptors. He makes good decisions on offense, shares the ball, and has a good jump shot. If given the minutes, he can distribute.
Put a body on a shot blocker so he can't get the right footing to gather for a good contest. This is bible for shorter players like myself. Its also good to have a floater handy too.
Starting at 1:56 notice he is protecting the ball at all times. Keeping it on the opposite side of his body from the defender and when raking it in front of his defender he keeps it BELOW THE KNEE. This is the lesson here. Also patience taking time to read the defenders stance and responses.
VanVleet absolute beast mode in the finals, his contract gonna be much bigger soon. Love his confidence and composure. Man is playing like a boss in his first finals appearance.

people don't realize the level that NBA players are on because they only see them playing vs people on the same level. Theres so much fundamental stuff that you don't even notice until you see guys who looked athletic and skilled in college go to the NBA and they just can't keep up with the pace of the game or how refined every move that every player makes is. You don't appreciate how they manage to not lose their dribble running through traffic with guys that have superhuman length and speed trying to interrupt them, because its standard looking play. They also make layups taken at 99mph look routine, or when they have to pump fake/ get it to the glass within a time frame less than a second. Appreciate pro ballers more. Euroleague is really good, way better than college and any other non-NBA league. These college kids fail for a reason, not everyone is capable of playing at the NBA level even when they were stars in college
Thats what a senior coming out of a good program can do. He was a star in college, just that he played for Wichita State who performed REALLY well but just weren't in the national spotlight much. So poised and skilled. Glad the Raptors are using him with abundance and didn't go for "more athletic" guards who don't have even close to the same skillset as Fred.

U should look at him now 😂crazy stuff man
its the six foot guys you especially cant guard. these dudes are there for a reason
hows kelly oubre and john wall gonna go losing to fred vanvleet that easy
Jøséph Āntön that's who they look like it's a joke
Jøséph Āntön yea , stupid.
They just did again tonight
+Kadir Ahmedzay Lol
Cameron Eaton He and the raps just beat them and won the series. How did you know? Are you a time traveler?? haha
Aye fred cold af on 2k I swear
Matt more like way more better than his 2k player lmao, dudes like a 60 ovr.
He is arguably better than Lowry now, but Demar and Kyle have better chemistry.
Deadass
Freddy All Star!!
Nice updates in the caption as well, shoutout to the channel for recognizing the greats!
As well as to the rising Jordan Poole!
I love these videos man. Way too many dudes at my gym try to talk about dudes like TJ McConnell and how if TJ can be in the league then they can too .They don't realize how good even NBA bench players are. These bench players could drop 40 in anybody's local rec league without breaking a sweat.
Right on man! Totally agree.
The minute you think you can beat one of these NBA backups, ask yourself if you are one of the top 500 players in the world....because they are.
Freddy is showing out in the Finals.
Crazy when you put it that way.
all the real hoop fans know... "bums" in the league can cook anybody, and I mean ANYBODY who isn't in the league...
OKCTHUND3R7700 x
they play almost all day ever day against elite players they better be able to beat average joes. And anyone who think they can take them is just dumb.
Radovan .Zivkovic but then again those guys arent average lol
OKCTHUND3R7700 x But The Bone Collector could score and win a 1v1 against Kawhi, am I right?
Some DLeague players are better .. just didn't have the right amount of popularity from NBA scouts and stuff.
BlueHundred Bone collector is like 6'0 max kawhi is 6'8 and shuts down top tier NBA players... bone collector might be crafty enough to score a few points but he'll ultimately get shut down
The best game of his season was that OT Thriller VS Chicago, It was because Ibaka got ejected that VanVleet was in, and VanVleet was superb, being a solid defender, and stepping up for big shots, this man is the Fourth Option on the Raptors, he's behind some other superb talent like Lowrys over all game, Cory Joseph's assist game, Delon Wright's Defense and Attacking game.
You can really tell the difference between the pro and amateur. The defensive stance, the footwork, how he finishes around the basket and his BASIC fundamentals. Watch him use his elbows and arms to get around them and how he reads his hips
But these two are not amateurs either
Fred is hella quick, that's why never judge how good an NBA player is, no matter how much spotlight is on them
Fred attacks like Kyle Lowry!! bet he's been teaching him some things 👌🔥
And now he killin it in the finals AGAINST the warriors
Before livingston dropped that elbow tryna break my mans face
I’m joking g
Manz lost a tooth too
This video is two years old people
Fred's footwork and fundamentals was amazing! Simple but very effective, kinda reminds me of MJ.
Very good!
We most have to! Both improved a ton from this.
I still remember when I first watched this video, Fred was still struggling as a pro. And I had no idea about who is Jordan Poole. 4 years later, Fred is a Champion now, and Jordan Poole played for Warriors. So much memory and emotions when you looked back at those. Amazing video bro
Yessir! Time flies for sure!
goes to show you no one in the nba is actually "trash"
Dude, no one in division 1 is actually "trash".
CurryThe GOAT OF MANKIND THE PAPI of RAGE! Nobody thinks hes trash either way hes a great 6th man
JOEL ANTHONY
KWAME BROWN
I remember when this Video came out, he was kicking ass and wasnt really in the rotation. Now he's a champ dropping 54 today 🔥
Yooooo! That's right!
This guy is this good ain't even in the rotation Imagine LeBron, KD, Steph, Russ and Harden. NBA PLAYERS ARE UNDERRATED.
David Rodriguez no they're not, that's why NBA is recognized universally as the best league
LetsPlayCodx what he meant is that few people truly understand how good an nba player is
David Rodriguez vanvleet was 6th man of the year finalist. Just got paid.
vanvleet got a finals mvp vote and might win 6man of the year next year. Lets not pretend hes a bum
what i loved is how everyone is doing work, without trash talking and such. loved it
2 NBA champions in this video, wow. I could never get close to them in terms of skill, but I learned a lot. Really impressive how Fred creates space off of just footwork alone
Crazy for sure!
NBA players are so good they make it look easy, especially on TV. Standing courtside watching pros play basketball, it's insane how quick and how skilled they are
I remember watching this years ago seeing Poole get cooked, now he’s cooking everyone in preseason.. stay down to the come up 💯
Ayyy! Gonna be something.
we definitely need to see more of this , doesnt have to be Fred , can be other NBA players
Both VanVleet and Poole are now champions!
this video was the first time i had ever heard of him...now he's making major contributions in the nba finals....good work
The composure between a pro and a non-pro is just different
Poole is a pro
@@ndgnatoo6677 at the time of this video he wasn’t
watching fred is entertaining cause hes actually regular size at 6ft going against nba size... he has no wasted or unnecessary movement and footwork is crazy
been saying Fred is cold just wish he could play more for raps
Vanvleet is so good. He deserves a huge role on a team who needs help at the PG spot. He low-key Reminds me of a raw Kyle Lowry.
DeMar DeGoatzan hes short
Nigga how is he a raw Kyle Lowry his game is very polished; he plays reactive and has many dimensions to his game. He does remind me of Lowry but he isn't a raw player.
gabriel FND I'm saying he raw because I feel he can do alot more under the right guidance.
Ahmet Sanchez you sleep. Nigga went undrafted and shown he can ball. He played a crucial part in 4th Q comebacks for the Raptors. He makes good decisions on offense, shares the ball, and has a good jump shot. If given the minutes, he can distribute.
every dude in the nba is like this, he aint special
Fred Van Vleet and Kyle Lowry are a great offensive duo on the Raptors. Fred is the reason for the bench mob success last season.
BIG FACTS!
That's why we call him "Steady Freddy"!!! Let's go, champ!
it’s crazy how in the title it says 6ft nba all star when he wasn’t even a rotational player, now look he is an actual all star
Crazy how far he's come!
Put a body on a shot blocker so he can't get the right footing to gather for a good contest. This is bible for shorter players like myself. Its also good to have a floater handy too.
My boy has came a long way! One more game and he’s a Champion 💪
He already has a big contract. He signed it last year. 2 year 18 million.
@@divinetruths345 that's practically nothing, he might be traded at any time or resigned. And when that happens his price won't be 18 mil anymore for sure
I'm here after game 5 of the Conference Finals against the Bucks. He had 21 and is now one game away from the finals!
gonna go out on a limb here and say van fleets the NBA guy
dat boy COLD
this guy fred is talented as fck. wow
2 big money 100m players in this video. Poole has improved so much since his high school days.
Legend says that Jordan Poole is still searching for his first bucket.
Am I the only person who thinks Jordan Poole reminds me of Kelly oubre jr
thought it was him still
Every light skinned kid with the same hair style does I promise you
They teamates now 😂
now they're teammates😂
Watch the raptors games this season, fred is very efficient in the paint as well as shooting the corner 3
Went to high school with both posley and Vanvleet they're both great basketball players there's talent in the Rockford IL area proud of these 2 no matter the level they strive to be better 815 stand up!!!
Nba champion still remember when this came out two summers ago 😂💯, always bet on your self
Fred was the greatest player at WSU in the last 20 yrs +. His control and cool calm composure made him the best. Always classy and super hard working.
There's some Valley fans who say Ron Baker and Cleanthony Early were better.
Love how nobody talking about Jordan Poole just getting drafted...
THIS MAN WAS DROPPING DIMES AND DOMINATING IN THE 4TH QUARTER OF A FINALS ELIMINATION GAME
lolol
King!
Facts!
Wild thing is Fred & Jordan are both champions now
Yessir!
His moves are so polished, its a beauty to watch
well this video aged well
Haha yes. Yes it did.
The road was unforgiving but he persevered the obstacles. He's now here...Freddy AllStar!
Should do this again would be very interesting since Poole improved so f much
That's what I'm saying!
@@inthegymhoops2.064 he will still get cooked on defence 😂
My high school played his school in the playoffs back in 2012, never knew he would turn out to be be this good!
Fred using that chicken wing push off like a pro👌
This is such a joy to watch. Reminds me of the Steph Curry training camp video. It's great to see the skill level of a true professional.
Appreciate it! I really love the raw video of athletes going at each other in competition when the lights aren't on so to say.
people don't realize the level that NBA players are on because they only see them playing vs people on the same level.
Exactly!
Attack the weak foot and when the defender gives you space, pull up. Easier said than done but that’s the gist here
Clips almost 2 years ago I remember this was before his sophomore season. I didn’t think much of him but was shocked at how he just killed dude showed me back then how end of the bench guys are so skilled
