So as far as one brand wash days go, you’ll want to strap in for this one. I’m finally adding my thoughts to the plethora of flora and curl reviews here on RUclips. I’m reviewing the flora and curl shampoo, flora and curl conditioner, leave in detangler, and the curl defining gel from their sweet hibiscus range. Most of the reviews out there were done by people with largely curly hair (the likes of Bianca Renee Today etc.) but few people with hair within the range of 4a-4c have tried these products, so I guess you I’m your test subject for the day. Needless to say, it was quite the experience.

Happy New year guys! Your fave (absentee) trichologist is back, and I FINALLY have this flora & curl wash day up. If any of you follow me on instagram, you will already know how much of a STRUGGLE this wash day was for me. It’s been a while since I’ve blind-purchased products - this was a painful reminder as to why I do not purchase products based on hype (as opposed to how my hair type will respond to the ingredients/formulation).
Thankfully, one of the products ended up being a hit so yaaaay! I have the miche beauty products to try next, but given that it was another blind purchase - your girl is wary.

I aggressively got into Ayurveda this year and yes my hair is thicker and darker but it is cough cough 😩 DRY
I have started adding moisturizing conditioners to my mixes and the difference is soooo noticable.

Thats always been my pet peeve with these natural organic brands. The ingredients are good but just not for my hair. On top of that,, they are not even cheap. Sigh...the struggle. But so glad you found something within that line that did good for your hair. Praying for your hair to bounce back. I just can't anymore...retiring from blind buying 2021.
You see meeeee!! This is why I always say, I'm not phased by synthetic ingredients, the question is does it work? If it does then we move. I'm in no way partial to natural products at all. Some are great, and some make my hair feel like trash. It would be foolish to keep such a product in my arsenal simply because it's "100% natural"
that point about shampoos that have gentle surfactants but make your hair feel rough because of the lack of emollients makes so much sense!! i recently purchased a shampoo that was supposed to be mildly cleansing but my hair felt like literal straw after using it. now when i look at the ingredients i dont think it has a single emollient... on the flipside, i have a clarfying shampoo but it never leaves my hair feeling like straw or tangled in it.

Honestly, this video took me back to when I blind-purchased the whole Afrocenchix line. Loved the principle of the company, but my hair and scalp were ready to divorce me. I even had the cheek to try it twice! 😂

I know the rose and flora sucks, but the behentrimonium methosulfate is a detangling ingredient. It has twice the potency of behentrimonium chloride. It provides slip and a non-greasy feel. It's in a number of detangling products, shampoos, conditioners, etc. It works better in the presence of pills, so the main problem might have been that there was only coconut oil in the formulation rather than the heavier oils we're used to.
I notice a lot of RUclipsrs "women" are buying almost every single hair product on the market and it's LITERALLY CHANGING their hair texture terribly. Their hair texture was once thick, black ect now it's dull colour and limp hair SMH. The best options right now is to make your own hair butter and oils elixirs to revive the hair back to its original form/texture etc.
Like a phoenix from the mountains of the hair gods, burst from the ashes...covered in Flora dryness and rise again 🕊️. You at least had an olive branch handed to you via the hair gel 😕 . Keep your chin up and remember; reading is fundamental. Always!
Not the phoenix!! 😂😂😂😂 That got me. Thing is I knew not to blind purchase - but lots of people requested I review it so I did it for the content. Definitely wasn't worth it

Next thing you know, you'll be buying a $500 blow dryer, the newest hair growth serum, and a vitamin that guarantees 10 in of growth and gets rid of love handles. Wait...I'd get that vitamin...🤭 No! No more tricks!

You know I thought the same thing! But their twist/braid out cream has the best hold. Better than Camille Rose Almond Jai for me… if you can… give it a try 🥹I can’t testify for the rest of mine though 🤣 I stick to what I know
I just tried this brand today, and I'm medium/high porosity 2c/3a curls and I experienced the exact same problems! The shampoo made me hair feel squeaky and tangled, and the condition just disappeared! The gel was the only redeaming product for me, I don't think I'll be repurchasing it 😂
Its the coconut oil so high up in the conditioner. Raw coconut oil is high in lauric acid which is quick drying and then the hydrolyzed honey which in my experience I find quite drying too.
It was very courageous of you to do a blind purchase! We have the same hair type and I stayed faaaar away from the cream line. ;-)
I've been using the Curl activating lotion which is bomb!! I look even more forward to trying on the gel after your review...

I had this same experience with burt’s bees shampoo and conditioner. It was such I struggle I panicked and it was a horrible time. I still have flashbacks about it. The conditioner made it worse if you can believe it.

I've only used the detangler and the gel. I don't mind it at all. I have 3B/4A low porosity fine hair. I like the Rose water scent
From one curly/coily high porosity gal to another, I recommend Girl+Hair (if you havent tried it already). The mask is the absolute best

Even though our hair types could not possibly be more different (I have low porosity hair and it’s mostly 2c w/ a small sprinkle of 3a) it was still super helpful and also really entertaining (minus the hit that your hair took for this video)

I will be re-reading my new ingredients lists on my blind purchases before use now. I bought a mousse and three different deep conditioners without reading the ingredients before purchasing. Never again. I still appreciate the good humour you managed to wrangle up for this video. Also congratulations on that ROCK!!!!
I bought the cream conditioner because the packaging was pretty and the smell seemed divine (it was!). I'm a sucker for pretty packaging lol. I felt it only really worked after using handfuls of it and (I have 2B-3A hair) even then it wasn't exactly a smooth experience. Disappointing but I know different products works differently for everyone. Hope it works for others!

So I bought the detangler in the black Friday sale and used it today (literally) for the first time. I detangled just before rinsing out my deep conditioner and had no issues brushing it through. However, I'm low porosity... I'm so sorry and I recognise that shampoo experience!

Thanks girl! To be honest, Carols daughter do some really great conditioners that come in pumps - I really like Cowash in the hair milk range. It’s just not readily available here :(

Love this video ! Thought I was the only one that found their products very stripping and my hair was very dry after using them! My hair was crying for hydration after using this. However, My daughter's hair is a completely different texture (3a) and her hair took nicely to the leave-in conditioner but its not for me .
Had to subscribe cause I literally had this in my shopping basket but needed to watch a review first. Thank God I watched your video and gladly removed it from my basket lol I’m transitioning and the struggle the is real already, especially during lockdown 😂.....sorry u had to go through this struggle 🤦🏾♀️ reading ingredients is so important to do these days. Hi Afope Atoyebi! This was a really informative review, thanks for taking a hit for those with of us with high porosity hair, but DAMN! I felt for you when that shampoo touched your beautiful hair, it just matted up and looked dry and stringy instantly, but thanks for your honesty.
I will be avoiding this stuff like the plague, but interested in the gel but usually avoid glycerin as in past experience it's caused dryness, so probably issa NO for me, for the whole line. I've just subscribed so look forward to checking out your other videos 😊

Soo many good quotes in this video! I recently purchased the oil and hair mist from Flora and Curl. I'm not a fan and I'm currently just trying to finish up my products. I'm not a fan of the scent and I'm usually all for everything floral, but it just didn't do it for me. I find the oil, just meh... Like I'd rather just not pay this amount of money for mediocre oil... the mist was also a waste of money. I've never been a huge fan of buying mist, I usually just stick to my spray bottle, but I was looking for a quick moisturiser for lazy/busy days. It's just meh. Anyhoo, great review. I wonder if you've tried Afrocenchix? I've recently tried their moisture line and I'm OBSESSED another Black British hair care brand like Flora and Curl, but the difference in the line is CRAZY. I have now found my fave line/brand and they were a Christmas gift! So I totes went in blind.

Chile I've been there! No NaturAll Club for me! My hair matted and tangled! I cut out swatches of hair to get out the tangles. Medium denisity, coarse, low porosity, protein sensitive...and the deep conditioner burned in my scalp (by process of elimination over time I figured I am alergic to the flaxseed).
Got a deep conditioner with Sweet Potato & Turmeric that my hair haits (not moisturizing) but us supposed to be good for my scalp (marketed for both). It's got 1 more try on just my scalp. Fingers crossed 🤞...
Now what am I going to do with a whole 'nother jar I haven't opened, but I bought on sale...?🤔lol
Not cutting out swatches of hair to get out the tangles, and definitely not the burnt scalp?!?! My goodness! It's funny that you should mention NaturAll club, saw them everywhere for a bit but never tried it. I'm always slightly cautious with 100% natural products.

Alright, I can tell you when I read the ingredients in Ulta I knew to stay away. If you have Multi-textured hair stay away. I was not surprised that these products didn't work for you. I understood the ingredients wasn't going to work for my type 4 hair. I don't buy unless I read ingredients 1st. It also states clearly "Flora & curl" so its not for Coily or Kinky hair either. Your review was great. Never just buy because you see a few oils and butters.

It’s funny how one just know that the moment a product touches the hair, we just know it is not going to work. People think I’m crazy. LOL.
I have not tried their shampoo or conditioner. I have in fact used/still use the foam and the leave in. It’s awesome I think for low porosity / fine hair. My hair gets easily weighed down.

As someone with thick type 4 low porosity hair, I actually didn't like the Flora and Curl conditioner either!! It was just not misturizing enough and I had to use SO MUCH. This line was just not made for type 4 hair
If you’re protein sensitive you would definitely have a bad experience with these products

I thought I found it odd on their social media pics that I barely saw any 4 type woman and also the reviews. I got the sample a couple of years back. The shampoo made my hair soft but can’t remember if my hair felt stripped. But I do remember the conditioner sucked….
