  • What better way to spend the day, than biking a trail that's an old railway! Monsal Trail is an 8.5mile (13.7km) long trail in Derbyshire, Peak District that follows an old railway. Built in 1863, it used to connect Manchester with London. It was closed in 1968, but reopened as a walking trail in 1981. 2 of its old railway stations are now cafes and facilities, and you can walk, run, bike or horseride the trail, that passes through many old railway tunnels. It also passes over the Headstone Viaduct, which can be admired from Monsal Head nearby.
