- Science now knows a lot about the solar system. But our stellar neighborhood is still full of mysteries. For example, at the very edge of our solar system, there are some of these celestial bodies that describe strange orbits. Some astronomers suspect a mysterious object to explain the puzzling observations at the edge of our solar system: A ninth planet. "Spacetime" takes a look at the outermost solar system in search of the unknown planet.

Pluto is the 9th planet.
1. Pluto is large enough to have a nearly round shape.
2. Pluto has a distinct orbit around the Sun.
3. Pluto has its own moons, Charon and Styx.
4. Pluto is part of the Kuiper Belt, which is a collection of icy objects beyond the orbit of Neptune.
5. Pluto has a unique composition of ice and rock.
6. Pluto is believed to have been formed at the same time as the other planets in the Solar System.
Much love!
I think Pluto was framed so that it could be declassified as a non=planet, Earth has a very large but other planets have many moons. So it is not fare on Pluto because it near the ice and dust Kuiper Belt.
If we count dwarf planets among the classical planets, Pluto would be the tenth planet because Ceres, what was previously the largest asteroid, would be the fifth planet between Mars and Jupiter pushing the numbers of the planets up one. Also, there could be as many as 100 dwarf planets in the kuiper belt and oort cloud of our solar system (lots of current candidates), their orbits are very irregular which will make numbering them by orbital distance an absolute nightmare.
u added so much points that you forgot to refute the argument that makes him no planet
Looking for planet 9 is like looking for a black needle , in a) black haystack with b) black touch light. c) in the middle of the night. Easy right.
If you ask me looking for a ninth planet is insane. there is NOT another planet in our soler system.
Good analogy.
@@LukeBrady I find it odd that a 'small Neptune' would be out at 600 AU.
Long old summers on that Sedna.

Finally..you guys are back... thank you for great documentary..
Awesome documentary
Thank you!
LOVE this 😀
Great documentary.
Thank you.
. I've always been fascinated by the mysteries of the universe.
29:28 30:08 Judging from the scale, if you could find Sedna, it's a matter of time before it's eventually being discovered, unless the model is wrong, which is unlikely. 32:17 Given such large object can orbit 15 times the distance of Pluto-to-Sun, it's possible that an object of similar size could orbit in our solar system. Hope there is breakthrough with JWST. Great documentary.
Why would anyone pay much attention to scientists from a country that is a two time loser of World Wars and does not even have a domestic space program that is credible. That means being able to make orbit not build satellites. Its to the point now that technical schools are building satellites so its not really that hard. Also the flagrant attempt to make this film seem more credible by having a bunch of foreign spekaers with voice over is just appaling. Its garbage attempt to brainwash. Planet 9 was probably formed closer in but got kicked farther out due to gravity influence of Jupiter/Saturn.
As per Dr. Batygin: LSST (or Vera Rubin) observatory is the one to find Planet 9. JWST is for interrogating detail of planet 9 like its atmosphere etc. LSST (VR) first light is this year.
if p9 exists, then it comes around every 3,600 yrs, ish,,not 10k..it could also be an a sorta, N/S, ELIPS, NOT E/W. ish as most solar planets,,thats why we havnt seen it,,or,,maybe they have,,just not saying anything..being scientists,as usual..dogma, boys club, dont rock the boat..same as the big bang,,NEVER FKN HAPPENED.. you cant get something from nuthin,,eh..

Hey.
It’s the GVMER guy. :)
Truly mind blowing and insane, we are nothing but specks and microbies
I like Pluto! Yet the planet definition makes good sense!
The IAU definition makes no sense.
@@Jellyman1129 If we re-counted Pluto, we might include Eris, Ceres, Sedna etc as well. That would make our SS with too many 'planets' thus they created new definition for such objects as a new type of celestial object.
@@dukeofglasgow9354 There’s no such thing as “too many” planets in the Solar System. We don’t typically engineer definitions to achieve a specific result. That’s not science. The data is what the data is, regardless of personal biases. There are a lot of planets in the Solar System, just get used to it.
@@Jellyman1129When setting up locations of the solar system by size, mass, and importance, the dwarf planet system is a good compromise. You want to know the Major Planets because they are more interesting and have more mass. The Dwarf Planets are great secondary destinations which probably would not make good human outposts due to lack of gravity.
@@Chip_Gardener I can kind of understand size and mass, but how do you measure planets by importance? That’s completely subjective. Calling the larger planets more “interesting” is also subjective and doesn’t describe the data at all. Pluto is a better host for microbial life than Mars, yet you’ll disregard Pluto because…it’s small?
Uranus hasn’t been getting enough attention, and I’ve been told it’s quite the performer.
It's got a huge elliptical orbit of 3600 years
Narrater sounds like Leslie Nielsen . Kept expecting him to say, don’t call me Shirley .
There are gaps in the ring of Saturn where there are moons. Between Kepler and Oort, there is a large gap. Remembering an old quote from a science fiction story, is there one there?
"Between Mars and Jupiter, I shall put a planet."
1 Ceres turned out to be exactly where Kepler (not a SF story) predicted a planet should be.
@Nature and Physics You have found the quote that the author of the story used and I forgot. Thanks.

They just eliminated Pluto to “own” the astrologers, who understand its significance.
Thank you WELT Documentary for sharing! Long time ago there was another planet in our solar system between Mars and Jupiter on which (giant) humans lived. They too invented nuclear power, but in a war they misused that nuclear power and the planet was destroyed. Only the four moons of that planet survived the destruction. The asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter is the visible remaining part of that destruction. The name of that planet was Mallona, Mallona means 'broken planet'. To the old Greeks Mallona was known as Phaeton. In the books of Jakob Lorber and Leopold Engel you can find more information about that.
Merci
I had an idea years ago about discovering this Planet X. Rather than looking for a slowing moving planet via transit discovery, we should look for bright spots that are getting larger over time. Its orbit being very eccentric means it travels in a more straightforward path, so as it gets closer, it could get larger faster than it transits across the sky.
The problem is the time needed to observe this, and this could last thousends of years.
@@Rick2010100 no.. that's not where u going tonight! no!
@@Rick2010100 Very true and then I thought about all those smart astronomers that have been making charts for hundreds of years using photographic plates. I have examined a collection online and noticed that focus problems causes a deviation in size, but these plates can be scanned and analyzed by AI and possibly some clue or evidence could be discovered. in addition to theses plates, more modern observational data would also be uploaded. I do believe its size would grow at a faster rate than its transit observation due to the eccentricity as well as luminosity. even if this size is miniscule it could be detected with the right technology/software.
It really is so weird watching this because I read about the theory of a dwarf star, which was dubbed "Nemesis" a good three decades ago. Called Nemesis because it went through the Oort Cloud and caused a cascade of comets to travel toward the sun and possibly showed the cyclical nature of global extinction events on earth. Not sure why this is being presented as a new subject and/or theory other than the fact that the information is more readily available to more people now? Granted, it was all a theory.
Error at 5:45 Herschel discovered Uranus in 1781, not 1891 🙂
What's a hundred years in astronomy?
@@Faceplant-hl5yn😂
Sooner or later scientists will find this rough planet it’s probably steering us right in the face❤
The ancients and some different tribes say there are 12 planets. In 1960s we were taught there are 9.
I agree with ancients.🤔
Be only 11now, Phaeton between Mars an Jupiter, was blasted into, what's now, the Asteroid Belt, by the Martian's, 75k yrs ago....
Couldn't the disturbed orbits of KBOs also be explained by a rogue planet passing through the outer solar system?
There are a HELL of a lot more planets than there are stars. Rouge planets are most likely everywhere. Just way to dim to see.
@@jayman94fly Thanks, Captain Obvious!
My theory is that it is on the far side of the Kiper belt. It would better explain so many new comets being discovered. Along with asteroids and their odd movements.
if it is a black hole, then lets hope it stays distant. this would be the mother of all icebergs, if it gets pushed into the inner solar system.
A primordial or rogue black hole with a mass of 10-20 Earths would have a physical size of a small grapefruit (perhaps smaller) . I have doubts as to the existence of Planet IX (or “Planet X” depending upon how much you’re dedicated to Pluto) and even more doubts about it being a black hole, but it being a black hole would explain why we’ve never found it (or ever will). Something the size of a grapefruit that reflects no light and emits virtually (no pun intended) radiation orbiting so far out…well, hopefully everyone gets the picture.
@@LA_Viking another thing to keep in mind is that the accretion disk around a black hole is like the tokamak. imagine enormous amount of fusion from early solar system material flowing around such a small event horizon. i have no problem in the idea that much of the heavy elements could be formed this way.
there’s a very slim chance this planet does exist.. and it gets slimmer every day.
no
If this ninth planet would be very faint - then don’t look for it. Rather, calculate where it should be and when and then look for it "blotting out" known stars that you can see. Or better still, as it passes over a known galaxy and look for the small circle (of no-light) moving across that galaxy.
20:20 Being so far from the Sun, they would be moving "slower." If going in the same general direction, there would be glancing blows that would rumble the rubble in the outer layers and much debris might not escape velocity. Pile up again?
My pluto my planet
"But something about Uranus wasn't quite right".....
Viva La Pluto!
You are looking between two planets, one following the other. Look towards your left and right from your target, there you'll find planet x and y.
An interesting point being it doesn't matter if a 9th or 9 hundred more planets exist around the sun if they aren't orbiting close enough to dip in and warm up or influence the inner worlds. Other videos are more explicit in interpretations of old stories or they just make stuff up but they do mention that in order for a missing planet to influence the inner worlds that is a super earth with enough internal heat coming through that it doesn't need sunlight to maintain surface heat. Compared to earth that has ice ages that sounds like a better deal. But ok does that help explain how inhabitants of such a world have enough technology to bridge the gap to fly into the inner orbits not if their orbit is still so huge. They might as well do that any time but would be impractical to fly out here. I'd have a hard time believing we'll find a faintly warm missing world if we can't also see any evidence whatsoever of anything transiting inwards even if there's still another 2500 to 4000 years or double that for that orbit to come back. As well as in practical terms hitch a ride to the inner worlds unless that option is also used up. Earth has been noisy enough to indicate there's something going on here worth visiting.
I think that it’s actually a Brown Dwarf, which would explain it’s gravitational pull, as well as why it’s so elusive to telescopes, etc.
no a brown dwarf would shine like a beacon in infrared. we can see Luhman 16 from here
I agree.
@@alexrain1188 I know it's 1 April but you really owe it to the commentariat as a whole to explain which viewpoint you're supporting. And why.
@@zimriel No he doesn't
Nibiru and other planets orbits a brown dwarf star
After the Oort Cloud would be Interstellar Space before we come to the equivalent of the Oort Cloud of another star.
Even that isn't exactly normal because the Sun happens to be in a "bubble". A bubble of something different.

What song opens this documentary???
Is one of the narrators the same guy from Kurtzgesagt?
Yes! I just came here to make the same comment 😉
Just an off topic thought, when comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 broke up and hit Jupiter it left scars and I got to thinking what if the Great Red Spot is an impact scar.. Could Jupiter have gobbled up one of it's larger moons or sometime in the distant past eaten up planet 9? ;)
Planet 9 is most probably Neptune, thats what they have missed or more likley tried to hide.
Actually planet 9 is most likely to be there we just haven't seen it yet. And btw planet 9 is so far that i would be very dim it might not even reflect any sunlight. And ort cloud is still just a theory.
Calculate the gravity wave, create a circular model find center of circle and follow its trajectory around the sun until you find your object.I don't know how to calculate these things or I would.

Could it be that the planet or junior planet that crashed into early earth came from outer space and as it passed everything it disturbed everything?
No
It could also be a small black hole.
True. A minuscule black hole about the size of a grapefruit could be responsible for the observed effects.
@@LA_Viking Why would such an exotic object be there?
Could there be a small independent black hole out there?
no..watch viper tv sumerian tablets..learn something..
A primordial or rogue black hole obviously sans accretion disk could account for the Trans Neptunian Object effects detected. Such an object of 10-20 earth masses would range in size from a golf ball to a small grapefruit.
Name of song?

Consider the possibility that comet ejecta is driven by electric charge exchange as the comet gets closer to the sun
What? No, it's driven by physical collision with solar wind particles.
The orbit that Sitchin described for Nibiru is unstable and would be ejected from the solar system on its first orbit.
Pluto is the 9th planet...So we are looking for #10 ...or X...Niribu...etc....
You should check on the effects on gravity when the four outer planets meet in alignment and the displacement effect on earth and the asteroids and meteors, increased collision risk?✌️♥🇬🇧
I can't find the intro song anywhere, can anyone lend me a hand by posting it's title or artist?
Nibiru is coming back. Zacharia sitchin broke the code of the sumarians.
I believe planet X is not a planet, but a tiny black hole of about the size of an orange. That explains why we can't see it.
I don't think Planet 9 is a phantom at all. I think it's quite real. The problem is that it's out on the farthest point of its orbit and moving so slowly that stars in the galaxy beyond are moving across our sky faster than it is. So, I think it's out there, but it isn't going to be found unless we accidentally run into it.
Thank you
Tiros1, Mariner, Voyager, Satellites, were launched to study this planet you are talking about, that had entered our Solar System 1960, its name Nagirth...
Nibiru the 9 ninth planet.
in my opinion i think that why maybe they send web telescope 4R see if they can have a chance to find it !!
pluto IS a planet
5:10 Firmament? Are those your words, or that of the ancient Greeks?
Hej... Is this a voiceover from kurzgezagt?
I though it said plan 9 from outer space.
Why would Aliens have there Graveyard out there?
Clearly the mass that caused the anomalies in the orbits clearly is not in the place it was but the effect of its journey has been remembered by the objects and maintained in what whatever you people see. The calculations are correct and the location has been scoured over I presume with the most sensitive equipment possible. Given the mass thermal energy would make it glow as it must be a terrestrial planet. Did mercury and this planet form together between Mars and Jupiter, colide with mercury losing much of its mantle drifting inwardly with planet 9 moving outwardly into the outer solar system where either it or another object of significant mass that hit Uranus knocking it on its side? Mercury may have been saved from falling into the sun by a close encounter with Venus with the energy of its motion being lost to the rotational energy of Venus turning the wrong way? Is this what turned of the dynamo making the atmosphere so different from what we know it to have been. Just a thought 💭
Why is Neptune's rotation sideways . P9 close encounter
Uranus is the sideways one. Venus is the upside down one. The others are pretty basic
A 5 or 6 mass earth planet 9 on a hyperbolic orbit that is mostly iron would be hard to see especially if its orbit takes it out of the solar system and orbit 2 stars not one✌️♥🇬🇧
How come we have managed to discover an exoplanet HDGen6906B with an unusual orbit like the hypothetical Planet 9 but can’t discover it yet it’s within our own neighbourhood. Or maybe Planet9 is hiding from us 🤔
We are about to experience the magnetic pole reversed
The German to English translator is the Kurzgesagt narrator! What an awesome crossover.
Pluto?
Need 4k
Nibiru will be near earth around 2032-2034 which will cause a polar reversal and slippage of the platelets.
It's a dark matter asteroid or micro black hole .
Wow, I have a proposal that could explain these anomalies and it doesn't require a planet X. Why would you first say the Kiper belt only has millions of rocks and then say there's a huge ass planet 6 or more times the size of the Earth in basically a dead area of the solar system? I believe, the reason Pluto did not clear the mess around it is simple, the outer concentric circle around the sun is so low, all you would get is a very minor warped space-time. That's why Pluto can't, and never will clear its junk. I mean, if the planets are going around the sun, why in the world is it hard to imagine that on the outer circles of the solar system, the space has very little effects from the sun and therefore cause wobbling of the outer planets anyhow. Also, I believe that Pluto is providing more gravitational force than scientist realize. Just like those pictures we saw of Pluto, it was very planet-ized and not some rock looking thing that everyone thought would be the case. I think demoting Pluto for the reason it was demoted was a miscalculation of the obvious, ALL outer solar system planets, will wobble and probably even wander in its orbit. I don't believe there's a planet 9 or X. Planet 9 was actually Pluto and yes, it won't clear its yard of debris but only due to the fact that the gravitational influence is minor, but the planet motions will develop space-time warping during the times when planets are in alignment OR near each other.
It could also be that our theory of gravity is wrong and there is no planet 9
How can we not see something (planet 9), within our own solar system, yet the JWST can almost see the beginning of time?
Your Governments are making that decision .. the oddest thing is when it arrived in our Solar System 1960 ..
Channels on the Nett were talking about it 10yrs ago ?..
Your Governments weren't concerned, YT ..cyber police weren't censoring it now, as it's leaving our Solar System they don't want the ppl to know, f. ridiculous 🙄.....
We need to send thousands of nano satellite at the same time to the outer solar system. pushed by some laser. Then send others nano transmitters half way between Earth and those nano satellites to improve communication. There you will have a net of spies around the outer solar system
i think there is weird logs in history that may be interpreted as planet nine interaction. like ice age. who knows may be that was the a giant planet altered earths orbit to distant zone where it resulted in cold years until it turns back to old orbit as if other gravitionall objects mass was happening rarely in giant orbit where it passes thousands of years to complete orbit may be :P
Maybe planet 9 was captured by the sun ☀. Light sail probes could reach these regions within 3 years 😮.
Why hasn't the JWT begun looking for it?
Its a dwarf brown star comes around not in lifetime it would be unusual for our star not to have a companion
6:39
Why can't Hubble see it if it's there
I don't give a shit what they say! Pluto is a planet!
They keep saying nine when they mean ten.
Planète 9, NONEX , où te caches-tu ?
Planet 9 , NONEX, where are you hiding ?
So is the translator not realizing what he is saying or is this the direct translation. Youranus? or Uranus? I thought maybe it was a mistake, but so far he has done it three times.
or maybe planet 9 just solen by the recent nearby star passing by 50 000 years ago so you would find it around that star 8 lightyears away
