Barbra should have won the best actress Oscar for her performance on TWWW

In the Oscar performance, she puts more emotion and depth of feeling into the lines "so it's the laughter / the laughter we'll remember / whenever we remember" than most singers muster during an entire career.

I learned to play this song on the piano when I was a kid and it has sooo served me throughout my life because every note is so precious and I get to express emotion hearing it, playing it and am so grateful to Streisand, Hamlish, the movie, the actors and subsequent singers like Gladys Knight and Beyonce who have also mastered it. Thank you for your review.

They were culturally different too. Her being Jewish was at odds with his WASP culture. What a love story! Thanks for this....

Was not considered a beauty by Hollywood standards. Her talent is so overwhelming, it couldn't be ignored.

Loved everything you did here! A comprehensive reaction to the whole package. I think a key scene that very well defines their problem is in the empty restaurant after the scuffle with the protesters. He's had it and basically says (paraphrasing) "....none of this matters. This isn't about principles. It's about people." Her response is "People ARE their principles." That is such a great scene. It shows clearly the difference in their schools of thought. Not surprisingly, Streisand was nominated for her second Best Actress Oscar. 😊

Thank you so much for this. You're beautiful, and I wish you knew you were always enough. Don't you wish we could go back? Like Barbra said, of course we would.

Thanks for being informative about the songs and artists. I'm 60, I hear everything you're saying. These are the songs that were in heavy rotation every 1/3 hour on the radio when we were running around as kids

So appreciate your intro words! I am older than you but absorbed this movie, this song so many times. It never gets less emotional as the issues are still with us today of trying to pair with others who are so different than ourselves.

LOVE the song and the movie. ADORE Barbra to the moon and back. And absolutely loved watching and listening to your reaction. Thank you!! You.re a delight. P.s. others have probably already mentioned this, but her last name is pronounced with S sound, not Z... like StrySand

Lisa Loopner's (aka Gilda Radner's character on SNL) favorite movie and song! And she always cries at the piano when she gets to the lines, 'Tell me, would we? Could we?" ;)

It wasn’t that they didn’t love each other or that he slept with someone else. She gave him up because he wouldn’t give her up. She wasn’t going to name people and her being a Jew, his career would have been over. She didn’t want him to give up his dream for her and she wasn’t going to stop fighting. So, it was best they went their own way. He stayed with her until she had their daughter but never saw her again. That ending always gets me because you can tell how much they still love each other, but just can’t be together. His daughter has a Dad and it isn’t him.

I am a HUGE fan of Barbra's! This movie is wonderful; however, a key scene was removed which further identified why their marriage dissolved. It wasn't just because he had an affair, she also was ratted out by her friend, who identified her as a communist when the blacklisting period took place in Hollywood where he wound up working. Sydney Pollock, the director, cut it. Therefore, the ending doesn't completely explain their demise. I love your reaction and passion, but please do not say StreiZand. It is StreiSand. Like Sand on the beach. Soft S.
