I first heard this live at the Calgary Folk Fest on Princes Island Park. I was a million miles from the stage sitting leaned up against a tree down near the river as the sun started to set on a perfect summer day. The song was backed by the sound of the river and the wind in the trees. Perfection.
This just came up in my recommendations again. And I am astounded at how good this is. The setting, the camera work, the audio quality, and the songs. How appropriate they are lyrically to the setting. And Dan and the band. That voice, and the musicianship. Congratulations to everyone who was involved in planning and making this.
Graytune I used a bunch of sennheiser lavs hidden under the musicians shirts and inside their instruments, the wireless transmitters were in their back pockets.
how did you record this? You can barely hear the river flowing by or the cameraman walking through the water, yet all the instruments and voices are recorded beautifully. Some kind of special mic? :)
Lol, nah. Dan does have a somewhat similar vibe, but his songwriting and voice are pretty distinct. Lyrics are truly exceptional, not that bon’s are bad. My favorite song by him is the second one here. Damn beautiful lyrics.

Been coming back to this video since 2014. It’s just so damn good.
I am a metal guy per say, but this is as good a song as Ive ever heard. The original is great, unplugged even better.
This song is so underrated. Like... this specific video is just stunning. Every time I play it, people ask what it is/say they get goosebumps.
This has been my “go to” within the last 3 months of lockdown....thank you so much for keeping me sane!
The beautiful voice of Dan Mangan. Acoustic performance in and by woodland river.
