Bill O'Donnell drove a horse of mine a few times in stakes races! Mello Mindy! Great Driver!!
Thank you very much, both Bill and Mark.
He was magic In the 80s. Great races back then. Time moves on. 😥
What an absolute fabulous insightful interview. Thanks Bill for sharing this with us a story we all followed through the years.
I left the business after my stint with Dancer and lost track. So in the late 70's I caught up with Bobby Seaman in BB and as we reminisced I said, Where's Bill now ? Well you know Bob, he looked at me asked, if I was living under a cabbage patch. LOL all the best.

Classy Canadian.I have a quilt made out of the curtain material that is in the office where Bill O,Donnell was interviewed.Bought it at the Red Mile 45 years ago and the ladies at the church quilted it for me at a cost of $20.00.How the years go along.
Extremely interesting. Invest the time, you'll learn some history. Time well spent.
To me, the race bikes and drivers, leaning back is detrimental to racing. A lot of people will not bet harness racing, because they look and see their horse 15 lengths off the lead and know full well. Their horse will never get close to the winter circle. Gamblers want their horses in contention early on and don’t want to feel like the field has to fall down for his horse to get there. Harness racing from the beginning is always been about going faster and faster. Well, we found a way to go faster and faster with the race tracks surface and race bikes. Thoroughbreds on the other hand have not gone any faster in 100 years and they’re doing very well.
brought in Private ritual at 99-1 for me.
the hey day of harness racing was when it was Campbell vs. O ' Donnell every night, it will NEVER happen again
The Magic Man…. My dad referred to him and Ted Wing as Batman and Robin…. Miss you Billy
When the single shaft came to be, it made horses go three seconds faster. The sport realized that despite of the speed it was dangerous, so the sport decided to outlaw single shafts. What we are dealing with now is another danger, its an economic danger
Harness horsemen killed harness racing. When the first thing you have to guess on is'Are they gonna try?"
