@iCookCrystalMeth so this is a real thing that actors are made aware of before they get serious in the industry. You learn through self awareness lol, but also your agent and various acting coaches/improv classes that you need to understand what your "brand" of potential roles is going to be. You learn very early on to accept your physical appearance and lean into the roles that call for that specific look.
I did like the twist they did, but I still felt like this wasn't a great experiment for looks vs personality because if you didn't vibe with her personality then what? The guys who chose 'looks' also confirmed that personality mattered more because their reasons for choosing appearance were based on the fact they weren't vibing with the personality choice.
Alternatively, it would be interesting if they did have two girls/guys, both are judged on their personality; girls/guys line up for which person they prefer. I see looks first, but personality dictates if I still find you attractive. You could be a 10 and drop down to a 3 or vise-versa. It's like my brain gets an optical illusion because I literally can't see them physically the same as before. A guy I like isn't the usual type I go for physically, but I've never been more attracted to anyone else. We connected pretty fast and there was a strange familiarity, almost like it felt like I knew him. It's very hard to explain, it's like you're meeting a stranger but you can't help but feel like you somehow know them and not in a "you must have one of those faces" or "you remind me of a friend' way. It's like I know we've never met but why does it feel like we sort of did?
In a common bar or club setting, you can't really "notice" a personality. A person's appearance sparks the attraction, and as you said, you can either build or lose that attraction by getting to know their personality. Looks and personality exist on a spectrum and complement each other, it's not an "either/or" scenario. But in other settings - like in friendgroups - looks don't always need to play as large of a role in sparking the attraction. When I was in college I met this girl who was missing two front teeth. At first, I just thought she was cool but never really considered dating her. But the more we hung out the more I fell for her. The fact she was missing two front teeth didn't even matter anymore. To this day, I can say she's the only girlfriend I've had that I can honestly say I "loved". But this isn't a movie. I went through some self-inflicted hardships and we lost touch. She recently got married to an awesome dude and I couldn't be happier for her. Love isn't possessive. I'm genuinely happy that she found an incredible person who will support and care for her. I couldn't provide that for her when we were together, and so she rightfully moved on. That's just life.
Even though this is true, the men in the personality line would be disappointed if she was really ugly, and the date probably wouldn't have happened, which means looks do matter, even though they chose the personality line. Think about the fact that she picked a taller stronger male in the end. What really mattered was looks, but also it was important that they felt like it appeared to be a decision based on personality. Otherwise, if the looks line was full of the strongest and tallest males, she would have found a reason to give the looks line round 2. Most likely saying "well they were sweet to me, and chose me without even knowing anything about me, so they liked my looks and personality without knowing, while the others in the personality line could be avoiding the looks line because the physical attraction wasn't there, even though we got along just fine when we talked." Fun how that works

It was sort of subconscious at first because I couldn't figure out why. I thought I was tripping so I started deleting pictures I thought he looked unattractive in to convince myself I liked him for some reason. I can relate to loving someone and wanting the best for them, even if it's not with you. I can't bring myself to even dislike him even if I wanted to. The only issue is I know he's in a relationship he's not happy in and I worry for him. According to societal standards, people might say the short-lived crush is more physically attractive but to me he looks like XQC on meth lol and I had a stronger connection with the other guy in 2 days than I did in 2 months with the first. So true, a study like that would guarantee anonymity, which brings out the ugly. Just look at how people behave on the Internet. No one is willing to verbalize the wild comments they make on here in the real world. They know it’s wrong, but so many people choose cruelty and instant gratification when there are no social consequences for it.
Not cynical, this is something that people have to keep in mind for psychological studies all of the time. Even without being filmed it's likely some of the men who would normally choose appearance would choose personality to appear better, even if it's just to the researcher. Humans are complex and social creatures, which makes studying them hard!

Lol it's not about age, it's just about interests. I'm 31 and I know about OP because I have friends who read and watch manga/anime and they put me on to a few good ones. One Piece is too much though. Apparently there're over 1000 episodes and that's just too big of a commitment lol.

I think that a great build on this series would be seeing multiple people and speed daitng multiple personalities (and then rating each immediately after). Then, having each one of the ladies be on each side, you could compare their ratings physically with their personality ratings. You could also have them infer what they think the rating would be for the opposite of the person (i.e. after speed dating a personality, rating the personality and predicting what youd rate the body and vice versa) so that you end up with a comprehensive matchup of how well each person could predict attractiveness from appearance versus personality!

This would work way better with more girls if they got to talk to all of them but then got to see pictures of them without knowing which one was which, and then they'd have to pick a girl either based on her personality or her picture. Then they'd see who was who and have to make their final decision. Then the girls would find out who picked them based on looks, personality or both and choose to date or dump whoever picked them.

I see looks first, but personality dictates if I still find you attractive. You could be a 10 and drop down to a 3 or vise-versa. It's like my brain gets an optical illusion because I literally can't see them physically the same as before. A guy I like isn't the usual type I go for physically, but I've never been more attracted to anyone else. We connected pretty fast and there was a strange familiarity, almost like it felt like I knew him. It's very hard to explain, it's like you're meeting a stranger but you can't help but feel like you somehow know them and not in a "you must have one of those faces" or "you remind me of a friend' way. It's like I know we've never met but why does it feel like we sort of did?
In a common bar or club setting, you can't really "notice" a personality. A person's appearance sparks the attraction, and as you said, you can either build or lose that attraction by getting to know their personality. Looks and personality exist on a spectrum and complement each other, it's not an "either/or" scenario. But in other settings - like in friendgroups - looks don't always need to play as large of a role in sparking the attraction. When I was in college I met this girl who was missing two front teeth. At first, I just thought she was cool but never really considered dating her. But the more we hung out the more I fell for her. The fact she was missing two front teeth didn't even matter anymore. To this day, I can say she's the only girlfriend I've had that I can honestly say I "loved". But this isn't a movie. I went through some self-inflicted hardships and we lost touch. She recently got married to an awesome dude and I couldn't be happier for her. Love isn't possessive. I'm genuinely happy that she found an incredible person who will support and care for her. I couldn't provide that for her when we were together, and so she rightfully moved on. That's just life.
Even though this is true, the men in the personality line would be disappointed if she was really ugly, and the date probably wouldn't have happened, which means looks do matter, even though they chose the personality line. Think about the fact that she picked a taller stronger male in the end. What really mattered was looks, but also it was important that they felt like it appeared to be a decision based on personality. Otherwise, if the looks line was full of the strongest and tallest males, she would have found a reason to give the looks line round 2. Most likely saying "well they were sweet to me, and chose me without even knowing anything about me, so they liked my looks and personality without knowing, while the others in the personality line could be avoiding the looks line because the physical attraction wasn't there, even though we got along just fine when we talked." Fun how that works

It was sort of subconscious at first because I couldn't figure out why. I thought I was tripping so I started deleting pictures I thought he looked unattractive in to convince myself I liked him for some reason.
I can relate to loving someone and wanting the best for them, even if it's not with you. I can't bring myself to even dislike him even if I wanted to. The only issue is I know he's in a relationship he's not happy in and I worry for him.
According to societal standards, people might say the short-lived crush is more physically attractive but to me he looks like XQC on meth lol and I had a stronger connection with the other guy in 2 days than I did in 2 months with the first.

Not cynical, this is something that people have to keep in mind for psychological studies all of the time. Even without being filmed it's likely some of the men who would normally choose appearance would choose personality to appear better, even if it's just to the researcher. Humans are complex and social creatures, which makes studying them hard!

I think that a great build on this series would be seeing multiple people and speed daitng multiple personalities (and then rating each immediately after). Then, having each one of the ladies be on each side, you could compare their ratings physically with their personality ratings. You could also have them infer what they think the rating would be for the opposite of the person (i.e. after speed dating a personality, rating the personality and predicting what youd rate the body and vice versa) so that you end up with a comprehensive matchup of how well each person could predict attractiveness from appearance versus personality!
