Thanks for this! I've kept frogs for 30 years, but getting my 1st Pacman frog, and I appreciate when people tell you like it is and don't try to sell you a bunch of useless supplies.
Im a past frog owner I used to have pac man and bull frogs as a kid and stopped but now I’m grown and am considering the hobby again and I wanted to thank you for your wealth of advice & knowledge to prevent future errors in frog/amphibian keeping!
Thank you so much for this video!!! A week or so ago, I got a Pacman frog, and I'm super excited to care for them!!! Your video answered a lot of questions I had and informed me on how to take better care of my little guy. It's crazy how misinformed PETCO is!!!
I'm so glad I decided to watch this. I did my research I thought, and even the directions on the product I got was totally wrong about the Temps. I even have a probe in, but it was mostly in the med-high 70s. Only had it for 2 days now, but it never went to the 80s that whole time. At it's lowest it said 65-75 degrees at night which I was following. It never got into the 60s thankfully but the fact that it was listed as an option.
I researched, I bought supplies, I set the tank, then I bought feeders, then I bought my baby Pac-Man. Unfortunately the store did not really give me key tips on taking care of a froglet I was prepared for an adult frog that is what I thought I was purchasing. So thank you for this video. I will be buying water in a special little feed bin I also bought powder free vinyl gloves to handle my frog
Totally agree regarding temperature but not humidity. I keep Ceratophrys in setups where the humidity is often 90% and they feed and thrive. 80 - 90% humidity and warm temps work very well in my experience.
I'm glad I caught this video cuz my frog hasn't eating anything and it's 6 days. I've seen him roam around a couple of times, but still won't eat, so I'm assuming it's too cold or it's still stressed out. I've left mealworms in a lid that I don't think they can get out of and they'll be gone by morning, but I'm still not sure they're escaping and going in the substrate. I also have a heating pad at the bottom, but I'm sure that doesn't bring it from 74 to 80 degrees
I would recommend trying a new food source as well. I used to feed mealworms and eventually my Pac-Man got either bored/sick of them. I switched to small crickets and other smaller insects and that helped. Also check the humidity! It should be somewhere in the 80s and if the humidity is too low, that could also be effecting your frog. 💛
I love when exotic vets don't know what my pets even are, where the internet I can ask active breeders; who often time have actually treated and cared for them
Currently have a pacman frog and first ever pacman too and no problems at all watched this video and honestly I'm happy I knew a Lil bit about tropical animals and husbandry my frog is happy and always has 83-85 Temps and humidity is 65-74. I do have loose moss in the tank on one side but I do feed my pacman with tongs to eliminate impaction from setting feeders on the floor on his encloser and him eating it up with substrate and other loose things. BTW his name is camo he's a tri color fantasy pacman frog.
We’re in the UK and have a baby Pac-Man - he/she is really content and is eating soft insects- it seems reluctant to eat crunchy critters with legs! Any suggestions or is it just going to be a faddy eater? X
Pac man frogs are the frogs I have the greatest difficulty with. I have kept little fragile frogs, larger toads and an African bullfrog with no problems. Only Pacman presents with so many difficulties. I have lost a lot of them. Some died from too much food, others from accidentally drying out before they had a chance to make a cocoon, and one accidentally from too much heat. Others I have given them away because they didn’t turn out to be the frog I was wanting to raise. Most of them in my care finally lost their youthful enthusiasm, stopped actively feeding themselves and diminished there activity. Also Sam developed jaw problems due to b biting hard tongs or spiny roaches and a few lost the ability to jump and usually crawled. Other times I have bought frogs which already had problems, like a crooked spine, uneven sides of the face or jaw problems. I remember only two specimens which were quite representative of a normal pac man frog. Could it be a problem in the bloodlines or artificial breeding? Honestly, some types of wild caught frogs are much hardier.
❓ ^I've wanted to learn more about the potential issues with pac man frogs, and the difficulties you explained have helped me to figure out whether I should get pac man frogs or not. The answer is; *_NOT_* ! What you described seems more troubling and frustrating that I would've expected. I don't want to have to deal with having frogs mysteriously dying under my care, and always wondering if they died because I did something wrong. But even if ^those werent issues, there's still the question of whether or not they are good pets. Don't they spend most of their time buried underground? I wouldn't want to have to dig them up every time I wanted to take a look at them. All in all, I'm sure there are MUCH better options out there to choose from.
@@HighlanderNorth1 if they are hungry enough and the conditions are warm and humid, they are going to come out at night. This year I got a nice female horned frog, and she ended up growing the largest of any frog of the species I had before. She had a problem too though, once she bit at her tongs very hard and slightly injured her jaw, but it was very little. She still jumps fast and has a good feeding response. I selected her as the quickest and easiest froglet to bite, and finally I wasn’t wrong. She is very healthy. She isn’t also of any morph.
Thank you! People in Facebook groups for Pac-Man frogs freak out and say that ur burning ur frog if u have it on the bottom. I say no, cause it’s supposed to say that- and if it’s too hot for him, he can just go on the other side
Thank you for the great video. I've ran into people who claim they know more than vets & tell people not to follow their vet's advice. Guys, if anyone ever says that, they're full of it & you should immediately turn your ears off. Even vets respect other vets' advice.
Hey! Great video. I just wanna say that when I was scrolling through your site the anoles are for 5? I think that's a little concerning and they might not go to good homes. Thanks!

4:20 about the heat mats does anyone know roughly how much wattage you should use because I have a 10 gallon heat mat on the side of my 5.5 gallon tank I’m not sure if that’s too much or too little though
Do you happen to know if gorilla 100% silicone is safe to reseal a tank for a pacman. I do not want to reseal my tank with anything that’s going to kill my frog or make it sick when I get him in a few months. I’ve had some people say it’s safe and others say it is not.
I am coming from the dart frog world and thinking about pacmans as a pet what Ive learned is knowledge on proper care for pacmans isn't vast like darts its hard to find proper information.
Hmm I kept two cranwelli males for 15 years at room temp. In winter tank would drop to 69 but frogs would aestivate and burrow. Maybe froglets need more warmth.
I just got my pacman frog today. I used a natural mulch substrate with some coco fiber and have a shallow dish. Its in a 5 1/5 gallon but its a tiny one so I'm not worried. I have no heating mantle however I live in Corpus Christi TX a tropical area and am not worried about temp. However my apartment stays 75+ but not the 83F you were mentioning. I breed mealworms and superworms and also grow mushrooms (where humidity is a huge component) I feel like I can take care of keeping below 100% humidity but above 40% without a gauge however its likely a good idea to get one. Heat and Humidity and here I am without a humidity gauge or a heating pad. I feel kind of bad. I will need to get those two tomorrow
Mistakes happen when you’re new, it’s ok! Remove the mulch and replace with coco fiber, and make sure you place that heat mat on the side rather than the bottom-you’ll be good to go! i use a BN Link brand thermostat to keep mine at a constant 83°F. We are all here to learn! Don’t forget that house temp is not ever the same as tank temp. Just like fish tanks-if your house is 75, your tank will be much lower than that-think how quickly wet substrate can get cool. Basically the only place you can keep most amphibians without any heat at all to stabilize is if you live on an actual island like Hawaii or the Philippines.
@@cloudberries The day after I replaced with coco fiber and then got a reptile heating pad that went under the tank. His / her little spot is 80F in the soil and the air is 75 F the humidity is always 70 and goes up to 80 if I mist.
