  • This made inMexico Precision bass from 2016 has a severly bowed neck. The owner brought it to me to see if I could reduce the neck releief to something playable. after tightening the truss rod all the way, I had to resort to some clamps to give me some mechanical assistance. emjoy the video to see the results!

I've tried a similar method but in my case to introduce more relief in a Gibson Les Paul neck. To no avail really, since the Gibson truss rod is one way. My only solution was to go from a set of 0.010" - 0.046" gauge strings to a set of 0.011" - 0.050". And that ended up just straightening the neck flat. Which is fine for some players. But even after weeks and months, the neck would backbow back to where it wanted to stay. The joys of single action truss rods...

Persistent backbows are less common- for a set neck I would look at heat treatments multiple times over several days with the neck clamped flat or a bit of an upbow, in your case.

So if this doesnt work and the neck springs back, what would your other options be?
    Good show btw.

New neck, unfortunately... heat treatments but there are no gaurantees that will work over the long term either

@ManotickGuitarTech The necks an area you don't compromise on, it's not like it's a vintage 62. So a new neck is the way to go. Particularly if you play often, I guess it's the best option? How much would that be, $300US?

@@halo20763 of course I wouldn't do this on a vintage guitar, but new replacent necks are anywhere from $250-500

@ManotickGuitarTech Oh I know you wouldn't do that on a vintage neck, wasn't implying that 👍
$250-500 ain't to bad. If it was mine I think I'd be just getting you to fit a new one. Nice colour that bass, I'm thinking of getting a Squire jazz in the same, looks very 😎
