I'll let you in on a secret: the Chinese (CN) side of gacha games has always been treated this way. The only reason we're getting the same treatment now is that the CN and Global versions were launched simultaneously. If they treated us worse, there would be massive outrage, and they'd lose most of their players. Normally, when CN developers release games, the global versions are delayed by 6-12 months, allowing them to avoid compensating us as they do the CN players. Are they generous? By Western standards, yes. But this level of generosity is standard in the Asian market due to the high expectations of CN players.

and the fact that Kuro game is a relatively small company so for them to be in the top list on the first launch of their new game is an achievement, their generosity is a well deserved reward for us as we support the devs.
they also listen to our voices and that alone is the honored one (sorry)...

You made a good point, I also thought about this myself so I'm glad you made this video.
I'll be honest, I believe its a mix of both. In my opinion the gacha game community is pretty greedy and ungrateful, they complain about every little thing and always believe they deserve more. I feel like Kuro knows this well and is trying their best to not lose their players, the game has some clear performance issues and genshin is a huge competitor. Being generous is their way of keeping the players happy and maintaining the high playerbase they achived at launch. The games launch was rough and most of its issues havent been fixed. The high generousity may be their move to prevent the game from failing (like tower of fantasy for example). That being said they have a lot of work to do if they want wuthering waves to be truly successful.

Regarding to the title. No and no, mihoyo just got you used to being treated like trashy pushovers, the thing with wuwa is that they are treating the players as costumers, and they are investing in the future return value of said customers. Especially now that they are in a rather tight rope, I wouldn't expect them to tone it down for at least a few months.

3:30 this, is what I both agree and also have something to say. Yes, they did pamper us into giving us these 5 stars that are quite useful and can be good on their own, and strong enough to get you through content, but this will depend by the player. They can go through until Union 30 with just level 20 characters (not me for sure, or was I?) or to make (I apologize in advanced) Skill-issued players but loves the game and who prefers to have their easy way out of struggle.
what I have to say tho, is that Kuro game is such a W company to keep all types of their players satisfied with their game launch, still issues here and there but they are sincere when it comes to apologies and pamper us with compensation. You can play the game however you like and still get through because of how thoughtful the dev team are into making these playstyles in consideration,

Despite there being hyper carries you still have to learn skill inorder to be actually good at the game and they have added quite the difficulty of enemies one could say. okay maybe they are not as difficult as elden ring bosses but nonetheless i think us having too many 5 star doesnt affect too much since either way we are making a 3 man team and its isnt possible to level them all up at the same time. resources for chracter leveling up and ascention and skill level up are quite scarce.
Then also the game is new i feel like they will stop rewarding us or being this generous maybe after a year or so? but thats just my thought.
Although i am a light spender on the game. I agree with your viewpoints.

I think you're focusing on the wrong thing here: a player's sense of accomplishment will always change depending on what the player/game/collective determines as the goal. Just because you've accumulated enough pulls to pull a character and that being a sense of accomplishment seems unfortunate to me. Or perhaps leveling your account to 40? Kuro gave more stamina for you to reach even higher and gain more resources faster. And just because kuro gives all its players 3 5-stars and some odd resources won't suddenly dimish player's sense of accomplishment, and if it does, that means the player's goal was shallow in the first place. Moreover, we're only 2 weeks into the game and no one is able to tackle the endgame, there's still much to consider an accomplishment.
What I think should be the concern here is how Kuro may become a pushover and that not being responded with players' satisfaction.
Even now, instead of praising a gacha game being this generous, people still find things to bag on about or compare it to other games and say it's worse off, disregarding the fact that Kuro is a small company and made a game that really seems to benefit the player and rewards the player for their commitment (player answers survey of their experience, kuro responds) and even their financial support (battlepass weapons, as an example). And instead of being grateful for these gifts, players continue the pattern to eventually build a sense of entitlement and are conditioned to expect gifts at every mistake, and/or realize that they can complain and receive rewards. I think everything should be done in moderation, including pandering to the playerbase-especially if they are as critical as they are being.

    • @justnoct
      @justnoct  4 месяца назад

You're not wrong, but Kuro isn't a small company. Granted in comparison to Hoyo maybe but they just had a wave of VC funding in March so wouldn't be surprised if Kuro hit the $1B valuation this year or just shy. They were 500M 4 years ago. Regardless I think what they are doing is fine, I just worry that the player base, like you said, will build a sense of "entitlement". I appreciate your well worded response and I think having these discussion is to the benefit of everyone, and if I have to take the opposite side of the discussion to reinforce positive player sentiment, then so be it.

    • @Brandon-gh3pg
      @Brandon-gh3pg 4 месяца назад

@@justnoct Good insight on the valuation, I wasn't aware of that. However, I think an open world, 3d modeled characters and gameplay done to this extent, they're attempting an uphill battle. Compared to Tower of Fantasy, the gameplay feels much more smoother and robust (bosses, gameplay, story) despite having a similar company valuation (to my knowledge), even to their own game PGR-except for the combat system-the story, overworld, UI, etc pales in comparison.
I think for this genre, that valuation can be considered a "small" company, especially if they're currently running other titles. I personally can't think of a better open world gacha concept other than genshin, and I think it's understandable that they're having this many issues in comparison.
And if I could make a suggestion, I think we share the same sentiment and I don't think it's necessary to take the opposite side here, I think you can take both sides: praise Kuro for being generous and transparent, while being critical of players' and certain creators' dissatisfaction and short insight currently, because it's insane how greedy the mobile gaming genre has become over the past decade: before it was just download, watch ad if you want a gift, then became you must watch ads and if you don't want it, you pay a one time fee, then became subscription, features blocked by paywall, then gacha games came on the rise and made it impossible to collect new/much stronger characters and it became natural and incentivized to pay a monthly subscription for a free game.
It's great to see that unwinding a little with Kuro (f2p are rewarded for playing the game and can pull limited charas reliably, people that invest are rewarded with good resources), and we need companies like this to succeed in order to change that current spiral.
anyway, sorry for the longwinded message, I just think voices like yours are important for not only to the community and kuro, but also to other game companies as well

Man, I get it. You are not complaining.
But your "worry" is absolutely unwarranted. I don't know what it is, if you haven't checked statistics or simply are to eager to put content out because "moneh!" or you just wanna stir up the pot but either way: No. Whales will be whales and everything else is going along smoothly.
Game just launched, of course we get a handful of rewards; Kuro-games being generous always has been an established fact, so old news as well, and PGR is doing absolutely fine regardless of that because people actually appreciate being treaten like valued customers and you are more likely to spend and invest money into a product that will keep you company for a while.
Kuro has made a lot over the first 5 days after launch, way more than expected (they were at 11M net profit at that point, now sitting around 40'ish M if I'm not mistaken?) - They had a more than solid start and we're just in that typical phase where things have to be adjusted according to feedback (See Echo Seal/XP rewards for example) but please, for the love of god, stop making topics like that.
Because despite you saying that you are not complaining, it certainly gives vibes in to that direction. We're coming from a corner inf the Gacha-space that was complaining over 3 years of bad company-management and customer treatment (Yes, I'm talking to you, Genshin-team) and now that we actually get some decent rewards and things are fun we start "worrying" about the next shit. "You just can't win with these kids!"
I get it, you want WuWa to stay healthy and they making enough money to keep their service alive. We all do.
Let me tell you: You have absolutely nothing to worry about. They are doing more than fine.
At least, next time, give it more time and observe what happens before "worrying" about things without any metric indicators that give you any reason to worry.

Since you took the time to type out this comment I appreciate that and Ill do the same. So to start, even if this was monetized it would be literal pennies so, no, not for the money lol. Now to be fair I did a fair amount of market research and referenced many varied creator opinions I just didn't talk about it in the vid, but since you wanted to talk the business side, talking statistics, market valuations, published revenue, and market share attracts a different kind of audience. Success is measured by many different metrics. I don't know what Kuro's internal metrics are, but if you look at google trends, Kuro only beat Genshin for a week at Launch. I'm sure the team at Kuro has more insightful business analytics and regardless of what we think that's a really short burn time to lose audience attention. So sure am I worried about the game shutting down, no, not really. Am I worried they lost market attention that quickly? Yeah somewhat. Other games have done the same like ToF etc. What saves Wuthering Waves is the combat mainly. So it has its own footing. End of the day who knows. Now if you actually read this, again thanks for the comment, but also consider that this channel one day should become a business and has alot of other competing creators. So in a similar fashion "Noct" is trying to gain market share. Unfortunately the YT algorithm dictates what works and this is what works. Is what it is.

Well written reply - Keep this up and you'll get somewhere sooner or later.
Now to address to "quick fall" in terms of market attention: That's normal. Happens to every game, especially ones with live-services.
Genshin had a couple of factors that were in favor of their launch and made it possible to have a more stable audience for a longer period of time; namely COVID and the fact that it was the first game of it's kind.
But yeah, keep it up - Maybe try more positives topics, because we really got enough drama-channels and it's really exhausting.

The main reason for gacha is some have to get luckh and some arent and if everyone getting the same rewards and amount of characters it takes away from the dopamine of the gamblr and feeling that im super lucky compare to the next person thats why gacha shaft videos do better than the ones who get good summons

Giving too many good 5* early just means that whales are less motivated to spend, which would leave them with no option to start resorting to shameless powercreeping like HSR. Its not that hard to figure out because he already made the whale point in his video. And you can literally figure out from the title that this kinda stuff creates a greedy playerbase. You just have to look at HSR to figure out what could possibly happen

Just, stop and smell the roses for once and don't see every game as a grindfest. This game will be different and maybe that isn't for the "hardcore whales"
But let the F2P people thrive for once... it wouldn't hurt after the torment that Genshin is, to have meaningful 4* and a standard banner 5* for free.

I mean, what you said doesn't really have any concrete evidence. You didn't show any posts by Kuro Games that smth is wrong in the PR department. All you said in your video was that, the amount of stuff we got is unusual and allows us to get characters to finish the game with.
I don't want to be condescending but, that's the whole point.
If you design your game in a way where it forces you to spend money to progress, the average person won't play it, if they don't have a spending habit.
Whales will still be whales. Who says you can't buy S6 Jiyan, or try your luck with S6 Calcharo?
We got a lot at the start compared to other Gacha titles, yes.
But making comparisons isn't always fair.
The game has its own unique flair with the 3 character party, intro and outro skills and especially the combat. There will still be people that will play it simply for those reasons.
Let's just let the game cook for a bit, it's fresh in the oven so to speak.
The compensation for the Battlepass XP for example was explicitly said to be, so that people can finish it for the upcoming patch that has been pushed.
Jiyan's banner will overlap with the new 5* which they didn't intentionally plan, so they compensated it.
Generosity is a hell of a drug. You shouldn't rely on it, but seeing it in the current day and age and how videogames are going in general, is refreshing. Especially since a lot of people seem very pessimistic.
They listen to what their players want, they announced an event coming, to compensate for the lack of a Echo XP Domain AND gave us loads of Waveplate to use since the grind for the Echo XP is, by all means, quite tough when compared to other "artifact" systems.
I'm not saying your statement or opinion is just plain wrong, it's your opinion. Every opinion matters.
I'm just saying, it isn't really backed by anything concrete.
If you were to show information you have dug up on this, I would perhaps see it the same way you do, but with this? It seems more like a pessimistic rant of sorts that we are being spoiled too much and don't deserve it.
That's just my cup of tea though!
Hey and thank you for the answer!
