Here's the updated free games on Switch list. I've purposely avoided a couple of maybe big names that I just don't like, while adding in a few gems. Mark
'Spending money in Warframe because you want to and not because you have to' seems to be the common sentiment from the players. It's amazingly free-to-play friendly, and the community is pretty nice.
The only money I've ever really sunk into it was the majority spent getting platinum to simoly acquire more frame/weapon slots. Imo that is really all you need to actually spend plat on in the game to really enoy it to its fullest exent and get the most bang-for-buck out of it. I have bought a couple cosmetic packs though simply because they had a cool skin and/or ephemera that could only be acquired by that but that's obviously 100% optional. For those new to the game I highly recommend only spending platinum (the in-game currency that can be bought with real money) on inventory slots for weapons/frames. This can also be farmed essentially for free, it just depends on how much time you're willing to invest to farm it for free. The only time you'd really need to purchase some is to skip the lenghty farming process if you just want to. Also warframe wiki & guides are your friend, there's so much to the game it simply doesn't teach you about in said game
Yup! The only thing you'd "need" to spend money on would be the weapon & warframe slots, but you can get enough premium currency just by trading with other players fairly easily. Other than that, all weapons you can get for free, all frames (except Excalibur Prime which you haven't been able to get in any way since launch) can be acquired for free. Main thing to spend money on is cosmetics. The point of the game is basically the grind, so if you pay to skip the grind you're *essentially* paying to not play the game. Also, the game has cross saves now!
This! I burned hundreds of hours and always had the feeling, when spending some cash, I'm investing into DE's ideas to come to fruition. They should be the study case on how a company serves its fanbase and keeps the wheels rolling
Fall Guys should be on this list too. Tomorrow they are adding Marvel character skins to play as. It’s a lot of fun 😊 wish there was local couch co-op tho.
I can't help but mention in the Warframe segment that you didn't cover the updates the game has had, heck just over the switch's lifespan. It probably has considerably more frames & weapons now than since you guys last played. Heck it's been months since I did and the amount of stuff just added in that time is crazy, from new base frames, ridiculous amount of all new weapons, prime frames, and a lot more including new story missions, new game/mission modes, etc. that have expanded the world. Also very much worth mentioning would be these two things: cross-save & cross-play were fairly recently added to the game as well so now you can link your account to other accounts you may have had on other consoles (or can just make new ones to do this) & go back & forth freely (in my case started on switch and can now go back & forth to my ps5/ps4 whenever I want to play there with better framerates/graphics/load times), then also the file size. Because of it's constant expanding aspect the file size fluctuates a good bit with each update. Sometimes it goes up sometimes down a bit. Current update is sitting at 17.7gb but I've seen some previous updates get over 25gb and back down to about what it is now. Very fun game to play especially once you really get good mods/builds acquired but it takes considerable time to do so. My only big gripe with the game is it not respecting your time you put into it much, and I mean that in regards to how so much in the game is essentially time-gated in some way. It's a balancing act and I get that, but I've put somewhere around 2-2.5k hrs into it and I'm very much just an average player in that regards. If you do play it and get into it as heavy as I did, it's good to remember to take lengthy breaks when you hit burnout and just go play your other games to kinda cool off from it
Steer clear of Skyforge! It's a really bad game and it keeps getting worse. The devs don't care at all about fixing their game, just focus mainly on milking players of their money.
Missed: Pokémon Unite, Asphalt 9, and Guardian Tales are some of my favourite F2P games on the Switch. Like I've put more hours in these free games than a lot of AAA games... although, something to note, these games do have microtransactions ✌🏻
5:29 warframe: the game where the tutorial pretty much ends at around 60 to 80 hours of gameplay. Major update dropping tomorrow and their annual convention is just around the corner as well. If you ever played it on other platforms, you don’t need to start over on the switch if you don’t want to, just link the accounts as it now supports Crossplay (pc, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo switch and even Mobile now). So it allows you to play with your mates on other platforms as well. There are connectivity hiccups here and there, but the content and enjoyment you can get from the power fantasy that you get from Warframe are well worth the investment in time (and some money too if you fancy). The community is pretty dang amazing and helpful and when you consider how old the game actually is and how there stink people from way back then playing still tells you some on how good the game is. The music score is also phenomenal, the voice acting is quite good and the gameplay loop and content is quite substantial. Some would even argue that it’s better than some AAA titles released within the past decade (yes, this game is over a decade old now). 8:22 my issue with trove is that their market place feels a tad predatory. Don’t get me wrong, the game is simple but fun and you don’t need to spend money if you don’t want to but the game will shove on your face “opportunities “ to “enhance “ your fun. 10:56 skyforge used to have one of the crappiest monetization systems before it even went f2p and only got worse after. Both trove and skyforge also suffers from the bane of f2p games: farming bots and currency seller bots.
I loved rogue company on the switch, You're able to get your switch data and move it over to another console. I was able to move mine to my steam deck.
Marky Mark, fun fact - DE just recently made (at long last, it was several years in making) cross platform possibility for Warframe! I burned hundreds of hours on my PS4 back in the day, had an excellent clan and crew and enjoyed it immensely. Now, imagine my joy when I cross-connected my old PC account, my Switch account and my primary PS4 account (yup, I had several accounts) and now have all of the sweet sweet scores/frames/weapons on the go with the Switch. Happy times ❤
No Overwatch 2? I generally don't bother with online competitive shooters, but OW2 (and the original) struck all the right chords with me. Great character design, solid gameplay, a ton of game modes. Best of all, you can get a lot of out it without paying a dime.
While most of the tables are paid, I think it is worth mentioning that Pinball FX and Pinball M let you download the game free and doing so gives access to some really good tables free, including Wild West Rampage which is one of my favorite tables.
This just in! Borderlands: Handsome Jack collection IS NOW Borderlands: Exclusive collection, and now you get 1 + 2 and the Pre-sequel instead of 2 and the Psq. That means you get BL1 added for the same price as a week ago. 3 Borderlands games for $10 what are you doing?
Oh and P.S. I’m a gaming family man (always playing with wife and son) and I don’t watch comfy games channels, so I just wanted say thanks for sharing your experiences you have with your daughter on Palia. I’ve since convinced my wife to play and now, my son and I are ready to join her. Without you sharing, my wife would be playing lonely style. So thanks from me and I know she’d be thanking you too…so thanks from her also.
lol!!!! My son and I saw the video you mentioned that and…well, that was actually the selling point for my son. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What do you do Mark? These kids, these days…Lol!
I had the joy of getting to try the beta of Vigor. Such a fun experience. The shooting was rough at the time, but I love that you can literally go in, get loot, and leave.
The problem was that Switch players were handicapped with framerrates and ui aiming compared to other console owners. Xbox players had massive advantages over us Now that PlayStation and PC players are in as well....well forget it
I do enjoy free to play games, i fell deep into Hearthstone a while back and I wish it was on Switch. I did see some similar games freely available but I haven't seen any SwitchUp reviews so I'm hesitant. For me, so long as there isn't a pay to win model or if there is, a solo campaign is available so others can fill their boots and I can take on the story freely dying to AI not trolls. I'm playing Star Wars Hunters at the moment on Mark's recommendation a few videos back. Cheers SwitchUp! PSA, F Zero nearly bricked my Switch for an unknown reason and others are experiencing it so play with caution. I immediately uninstalled it for fear of a repeat.
Palia is the only one I would consider trying. I’ve played enough F2P games (including thousands of hours in a certain tank game) to know they are super addictive and the end goal is always my wallet.
Tetris 99 is my top loading game. Many in your list were gateways to paid games (Ninjala to Splatoon, Dauntless to MH Rise). I still try to play Apex and Overwatch 2 when I can.
11:10 Ninjala has its charm and appeal though its audience is limited. Gameplay is not perfect but can still be enjoyable with a party. The amount of anime collaborations through its 16 seasons make room for a lot of in-game cosplay and original character creation
I came for the free stuff, I stayed for the free hugs you guys keep giving us. Even when I don't want to get a new game, the time you let us spend with you is a nice touch especially during rough times. Much love 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I'm just glad I can actually experience it on my ps5 now and see what I've been missing since being stuck on switch this whole time because who's gonna try and build all that work back up on a seperate account on a different console? It definitely looks & plays much better when not playing on the potato but I still do play on it when I just don't feel like sitting in front of my tv
If you're playing Cross play multiplayer, and you're in the switch, whoever is the lobby host is the only one that gets the achievements/ makes progress. I deleted the game when I found out I had to replay 4 hours worth of shit cuz I was playing with my brother.
@@SMD-si7fm what? So like if you're doing say a kuva survival and you're there for a few hours getting kuva & relics, only the host is getting any of that?
Lego Fortnite sounds like one to give a try. I thought it played more like mainline fortnite and steered clear. But I'm down for a minecraft like time with Lego!
As someone who uses the Switch as a budget gaming platform, I've tried quite a few titles and put hundreds of hours into the free-to-play games on the system. For me, the best all-round title is Warframe, it just feels like a superb top-tier experience. I'm currently very invested in Disney Speedstorm (the Disney & Pixar themed kart racer) and I play between 30-90 minutes every day across 2 separate Switch and XBox profiles (for twice the fun), and have done so ever since it went free-to-play a few months ago. I was really looking forward to Palia, but it just didnt click with me (but that's never a problem with free-to-play), and like you, I just couldnt stick with Skyforge's terrible visuals and performance.
Have you put a lot of time into WF? I took a long burnout break for almost a year, then came back when whispers in the walls released and was pretty overhelmed at all the new changes/additions. Then took another several month break and downloaded the dante update a couple days ago and just feel lost almost with what to do. I'm not even sure any of my old builds are good anymore depending on what all has changed and not even sure what all new weapons have been added to work on getting. I got a couple of incarnons the last time I played but didn't even build them up yet lol, and haven't even began to work on getting any of those new archon mods. It's so easy to fall behind on that game if you're not playing daily
@@QuestionThings123 I tend to play these games regularly for 3 to 6 months until I feel that same kinda grind or burnout effect that you seem to describe, then I just move on to something else and very rarely go back. Warframe was really good when I was playing it, but it's always possible that updates have changed things, or that it's evolution for ongoing regular players might feel a bit jarring for legacy players returning after a long break.
@SwitchUpYt I just jumped back into rise by getting the sunbreak dlc from the sales this last week and I'm really enjoying it again! Forgot how fun it is and challenging! Took me 2 days to actually finish the high-rank 7* Rajang capture solo that I tried (using rampage bow) because I fogot all the game mechanics, but it was so worth it once I finally pulled it off!
As a person who spent a lot of hours into warface it really did scratch that call of duty itch... The sad part now though is that the new maps make the game run so poorly. I could handle 30fps but not 15-20.
I'm so in love with my switch and the switch 2 gonna be so fire already love all these games I got and can't wait for more ... just picked up three houses and smt5 that came out Friday so I'm happy love the videos guys always looking for new games and people like minded
Ooh I miss rogue company dearly, I sank dozens of hours and grinded that game so so much, shame that the company behind Roco had a major restructure that left the game essentially unsupported
Great to showcase some games anyone can pick up. Can someone answer: does Warframe have cross-progression? I used to play on PS4 and might just dive back in on Switch if I don't have to unlock everything I had again.
I wish they continued support with Paladins, I played that because I was kinda burnt out on Overwatch and my account got messed up so all my progress from the original never carried over (so many skins *sniffle*) but that was a fun game. At least now Star Wars Hunters is scratching that hero shooter itch. I’m definitely hooked. Haven’t unlocked all the characters yet but I did manage to complete a couple of events!
DC Universe Online is a good MMO that I have played first on the PS3. It's available on the Switch, but the playerbase is nowhere near as much as the PS/PC numbers. You get to play for free until you reach level 30. That's when you'll need to purchase a subscription to unlock better bonuses and gear. It's a good game that needs an avid community on the Switch.
Do you need to pay to get better gear? My understanding is that it has 3 tiers: Free players, subscribbed players, then an in between tier for "I've spent at least $30" players. Or maybe it's $15, I forgot. I very rarely play it anymore, but I was subscribed for two months, then ended my subscription and kept playing. I was quite happy with that level of benefits, and I was still making progress at max level. It's slow progress, but hey, it's an MMO
@@smitty7326As of recently, you kinda do. It's a thing that's been plaguing the MMO genre for years now where you have to spend a few bucks to get what you want whether it's the best weapons or the trendiest styles.
Also, Palia is still just in Beta and much better than most new games you have to pay for. It will be a masterpiece by the time the game gets to full launch.
I'm very conflicted about Disney speedstorm. Because on one hand the free to play stuff is fine and enjoyable, especially local multiplayer. However, it just seems to be getting more and more. Predictory is fariz the unlocks and getting new characters. It almost seems like you have to buy stuff in order to unlock them.
I just tried our Star Wars Hunters with my little nephew (age 7). He had fun with it but his dad was concerned with online talk. Im glad you covered thsy it's not in the game
Star wars hunters is definitely worth it. Speaking of free games that died that poor great frezbee pvp game. That unfortunately died quickly on all platforms
I don’t really have time for free to play games, apart from the the lack lustre gameplay, and the kitchen sink purchases being thrown at you, you also have to pay for online. I’ve got far too many good games I’ve paid for to play
I have 2000 hours on warframe, and ive only played on switch. Like i saw down somewhere in the comments, the only time ive spent money on the game was when i thought.. ive got 1k hours in this.. id like to get some cosmetics and say thabks to the devs. So i bought some plat. Such a cool game, such a cool dev team, and such a cool community
I got some fun out of Asphalt 9, a really quite impressive racer... Though I DID reach a "road-block" where my standard car just COULDN'T keep up with the AI. So I quit! (fun for a free play though)
Why is Rocket league almost 19gb? It doesn't seem like it needs to be, other games of similar size generally have waaaaay more content and variety... Anybody have any idea?
I got super hooked on Sky for awhile.... but then the IAPs got to me. All the newest/coolest stuff costs money, and the prices really add up. Basically, if you want something to play for a little while each day and don't really care about the coolest cosmetics, it's a pretty fun game. Otherwise, well... watch out, lol. My wallet forced me to stop.
There's definitely a huge range with free games, from great to absolutely horrible. But if you find a good one and don't mind the grind, then it can be great. Warframe is something I've played every week for years.
I ended up sticking with a shooter called "Warface" some time ago, its alright, doesn't really feel like P2W given you can get super decent weapons without spending money (they just won't be golden oh nooo) and has a respectable variety of modes to choose from, altho I believe only Team Deathmatch is really played actively visuals and performance is okay for a Switch port I guess, could be better but also could be worse nowadays I mainly play Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville when I want to play a shooter, but every once in a while I want to play a COD-like or Battlefield-like shooter and I'll but up Warface
The Switch simply isn't made for the F2P stuff. Most of the games are inferior ports from other platforms (Warface, Apex, Fortnite). Nintendo should've hired a team that made Switch-exclusive F2P shooters. Something simple-looking and not taxing on the hardware but runs at a smooth 540p60. Think of BattleBit Remastered or a cutesy-visuals like Ninjala (but with guns). I applaud the Nintendo-only gamers but someone like me who has a Series X and a midrange PC, the Switch ends up being just a Pokémon machine.
Paladins used to be there until being taken off. It was fun to play it with gyro support. I did go back before it was taken off after playing from my Xbox Series X and... wow, I'm not sure the uodates made it worse, or the Series X spoiled me? But the Switch port looked so bad. And Paladins wasn't a game with graphics as good as Overwatch. It might also be that Hi-Rez didn't want to put the effort into fixing that port.
Really love Palia and Lego Fortnite. But unfortunately, the updates are a bit much, space wise with the latter and I uninstalled it. Palia is much better imo with updates.
Apex’s graphics are just not good enough, wish they ported apex mobile instead but it’s EA we’re talking about, warface was good but it’s pay to win which just makes it suck, happy that stars hunters is as good as it is, pretty much the best multiplayer arena shooter we have outside of splatoon
Tried out Skyforge about 5 months ago and it's probably one of the uglies games I've played on the Switch. Like it was so blurry and washed out it gave me a headache from my eyes straining to focus. Plus I heard there's basically a paywall on the gear you need unless you have a high level friend to carry you. So it's quite literally painfully bad
Here's the updated free games on Switch list. I've purposely avoided a couple of maybe big names that I just don't like, while adding in a few gems. Mark
Eternal is very similar to Hearthstone but I'm hesitant to play. Any chance for a SwitchUp review or quick mention in an Interesting Games video?

'Spending money in Warframe because you want to and not because you have to' seems to be the common sentiment from the players. It's amazingly free-to-play friendly, and the community is pretty nice.

I came for the free stuff, I stayed for the free hugs you guys keep giving us. Even when I don't want to get a new game, the time you let us spend with you is a nice touch especially during rough times. Much love 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Also warframe has cross save now so i cna play my pc profile on my switch now which is wonderful.
Yup! It's great. That released RIGHT before I went on a big trip, and it was amazing to be able to take my pc account with me.
How’s warframe on switch? Last time i tried the open world area have pretty bad performance
What was the FPS you were talking about when rocket league was in the background before vigor?
I've living and breathing Lego Fortnite - A must play. Thanks for sharing and I hope all is well.
11:10 I started playing SkyForge and I find it pretty fun. I used to play Ninjala but I got rid of it because I stopped playing.
Why my vagor kinda blurry tho i using oled version
I liked Dauntless, but quickly moved onto Monster Hunter World
Yeah pretty much me with Monster hunter Rise
Apex on switch is honestly pretty fun when you get used to it
Does war frame have cross platform multiplayer?
Lego Fortnite does show up separately in the eshop... so I presume it is a separate download now.
No it's not
I wish they continued support with Paladins, I played that because I was kinda burnt out on Overwatch and my account got messed up so all my progress from the original never carried over (so many skins *sniffle*) but that was a fun game.
Awesome list! My personal favorite is actually Pokemon Unite!
Warframe is impossible to aim on the switch though. Gyroscopic aiming doesnt work on the switch lite sinceyour turning the whole thing away from you
Fortnite and Fall Guys are def my fav free to play games on Switch! I’ve had soooo much fun playing them with friends
Warframe is so much fun. It kind of scratches that destiny itch for me. Love having it on switch to play before bed.
I just tried our Star Wars Hunters with my little nephew (age 7). He had fun with it but his dad was concerned with online talk. Im glad you covered thsy it's not in the game
What is the background music? It's great.
Can we please start a trend and start getting to the point, just identify the damn thumbnail immediately, everyone upvote those. Let's get it.
Remember when there was still a chance that Genshin Impact would come to the Switch hahah.. good times. But seriously, I really wanna try Sky!
Rogue company looks quite fun I’m confused what was the issue? Does it not play anymore??
You can now cross save your warframe account across all platforms and that got me to try it on switch
I just mentioned this as well. Did you put a lot of time into it on other consoles?
Alright, I'll bite, where's the armor in the thumbnail from?
Star wars hunters is definitely worth it. Speaking of free games that died that poor great frezbee pvp game. That unfortunately died quickly on all platforms
War frame is like cyberpunk mixed with crisis
I don’t really have time for free to play games, apart from the the lack lustre gameplay, and the kitchen sink purchases being thrown at you, you also have to pay for online. I’ve got far too many good games I’ve paid for to play
A switch up video that won’t hurt my wallet? Yes, please.
Lol doesn't save my backlog insanity any! Thanks guys, I love free games, and my fave bit is your 'games to avoid' section.
Another great list mark, fun video!
I've had my Switch since 2018, why have I never played any free to play games other than Mario 35? I'm going to give these a go.
Wow! War frame looks really cool!
Nintendo Direct Confirmed for Tomorrow!!!
Heck yeah
Also Fall Guys and other Disney Speedstorm are good free games. I play both games on my switch.
I had no idea that some of these game on this list are available on switch :D Gonna check some
I think disney Speedstorm is free now too
Why is Rocket league almost 19gb? It doesn't seem like it needs to be, other games of similar size generally have waaaaay more content and variety... Anybody have any idea?
Hunters is surprisingly fun. Love the channel guys!
Didn’t really click with Star Wars hunters, felt like re-skinned overwatch 2. Either thats the reason or I just have no friends.
I’m an old man. I just want to pay for a game once and be done with it! I’m probably missing out on some great games though 😅
There's definitely a huge range with free games, from great to absolutely horrible. But if you find a good one and don't mind the grind, then it can be great. Warframe is something I've played every week for years.
I am the exact same.
I ended up sticking with a shooter called "Warface" some time ago, its alright, doesn't really feel like P2W given you can get super decent weapons without spending money (they just won't be golden oh nooo) and has a respectable variety of modes to choose from, altho I believe only Team Deathmatch is really played actively
visuals and performance is okay for a Switch port I guess, could be better but also could be worse
nowadays I mainly play Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville when I want to play a shooter, but every once in a while I want to play a COD-like or Battlefield-like shooter and I'll but up Warface
Yep that's in here. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt I think you may be mixing up "Warface" with "Warframe" here 😅
This year I broke my record for money spent on games in one year. and it's only June;) it's time to take a closer look at free games😂.
helloooooo love your vids
The Switch simply isn't made for the F2P stuff. Most of the games are inferior ports from other platforms (Warface, Apex, Fortnite). Nintendo should've hired a team that made Switch-exclusive F2P shooters. Something simple-looking and not taxing on the hardware but runs at a smooth 540p60. Think of BattleBit Remastered or a cutesy-visuals like Ninjala (but with guns).
I applaud the Nintendo-only gamers but someone like me who has a Series X and a midrange PC, the Switch ends up being just a Pokémon machine.
Apex is optimize i give it 8/10 scale
I pretty much just played warframe on my switch for a long time
Paladins used to be there until being taken off.
I completely agree with you about children of the light. I love that atmosphere and artstyle.
Now that I think about it, I never tried any free to play games on the switch. I might have to look olinto some of these.
Retrograde arena is a lot of fun. And it’s free.
Crsd is actually bussing on the switch ngl
What about Pokemon Unite???
Really love Palia and Lego Fortnite. But unfortunately, the updates are a bit much, space wise with the latter and I uninstalled it. Palia is much better imo with updates.
Omega Strikers can be fun
Excited for this one! Haven't looked through ftp switch games in years
i was really interested in Vigor but after playing it for an hour or 2 i uninstalled it :'D
Warframe came out in 2013, not 2018..... It was remade to fit on the switch in 2018.
