  • The Potala Palace is the landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, located in the capital city, Lhasa. It was first built by the 33rd king Songtsen Gampo in 7th century and later rebuilt in the 17th century by the 5th Dalai Lama. Since then it was home to the Dalai Lama and his government. Tibet is a super spiritual place.
It feels like at sudden, something inside of you, have been purified.
It is like realising how small you are, and how wide and blue the sky can be.
I highly recommend every person who should visit there once of your life.
The natural, the pure, the simple and original.

Tibet has been legit part of China for over 800+ years, as recognized by the world. It's nice to see China building high speed rails, airport, infruastuces, schools...etc to connect this remote part of China to the rest, and promote growth to this area, even turning some deserts into fertile arable lands. Awesome.

Just lier as always Chinese... I can say you are Chinese and you guys always convince to the world that Tibet is part of china but actually not.... In the history Tibet is never part of china and Chinese force to captured Tibet in 1959 ...and trying to destroy everythings of tibetan monstery and culture and religious and now Tibetan peoples.... Please do some research... Don't lie and don't forget Chinese government always crucial and shameless ...

@@tashigyatso13 Right.... Who fed the monks all year round? Remember there were millions of monks all doing useless chanting and meditation in their temples. There was no modern farm machinery like tractors and combines. So who fed them? Millions of them? Yes, I see. You want to return the days when millions were nothing more than poor peasants who were forced to grow food for the Tibetan aristocracy and would be beaten if they don't grow enough food to provide for the idle monks.

Potala is a Sanskrit term a supposed heavenly realm where the Avalokteshwara the Buddha of compassion dwell. Dalai (Talai) is a Mongolian word meaning ocean or vast or great and Lama a Tibetan word for a spiritual teacher.
95% of the building was constructed by the 5th Dalai Lama though he died before completion. As such his death was kept a secret so that the Potala could be constructed without hindrance. The reagent (Desi) who oversaw the construction and administration of Tibetan govt was killed by Mongolian who had control over Tibet after learning that the death of the Dalai Lama was kept secret. The reagent was a monk scholar and great architect and also a great scholar of Tibetan medicine who wrote a great commentary on Tibetan medicine which has been used as standard text b to train and guide Tibetan doctors since then.

Tibet could be controlled by either India or China. Since Tibet is the origin of many rivers in China. There is no way China would let India control the region. India did lots of work and tried to separated Tibet , all failed. And India did really bad job at helping countries like Nepal in development. Most of separatists in Tibet live in India, who are treated as lowest class in India. And they cannot go back to Tibet as well. So you can imagine how desperate they are.

The relationship goes back to Tang Dynasty.
The period of Qing dynasty is during the 16th century, when European started to sail to Asia for spices where the kingdom of England, Portugal, Spain and French existed.
The period of Tang Dynasty is during the 8th century, where England is not existed, I believe this is the time when Anglo Saxon from Scandinavia start arriving, French lords still control and the various territories and Byzantine empire still stand. (Not knowing around the corner the Turks will annihilated all of them)

I distinctly remember having to throw away the shoes I wore on my visit. They constantly burn yak butter candles and the stench is unbelievable. Plus they've doing this for a few thousand years so the floor is slick with the grease from the candles. Fascinating place in any event, just a bit stinky.

The Potala is "Butugel" (бүтээл or ᠪᠦᠲᠦᠭᠡᠯ) in Mongolian language, which means the creation. Actually the fifth Dalai lama initiated the palace renovation (or expansion) and passed away. Tibetan prime minister Sangey Gyatso hid Dalai lama's death and ruled the country for 15 years. During these years, Sangey Gyatso and Mongolian Gushri khan's widow wife (khatun) completed building the whole palace. Western Mongolia was huge patronage for building this palace. However, Tibetans and Chinese hide to talk about historical realities and are distributed with incomplete versions.

Where is the source of funding for the maintenance of the palace and hundred if not thousand of monks? Is the monastery controlled by government or the Tibetan monks themselves. Where are the troops or police? Are the monks, worshippers and tourists paid actors for the benefit of Poppy’s visit? A tourist’s video is more believable.

I flipped through the budget report of the Tibetan government for 2018.
      xz.people.com.cn/GB/n2/2019/0129/c138901-32588844.html
The Google translation should give you a general idea.
Revenue in the district's general public budget totaled 23.035 billion yuan, 138.1% of the budgeted figure and an increase of 24% over last year's final accounts. Adding the 173.258 billion yuan in central government subsidies, the 4.225 billion yuan in general debt revenue, the 18.38 billion yuan transferred to the budget stabilization fund, and the 1.14 billion yuan transferred from other sources, the 9.408 billion yuan carried forward from last year, the total revenue in the general public budget of the region was 229.446 billion yuan. The total expenditure in the general public budget was 217.052 billion yuan, of which 19.7271 billion yuan was from the general public budget, an increase of 17.3% over the previous year. A total of 17.05 billion yuan was added to the budget stabilization fund, 2 billion yuan was added to budgetary working capital, 31 million yuan was spent on capital relief, and 700 million yuan was spent on debt repayment. Revenue exceeded expenditure, and 12.394 billion yuan was carried forward for the next year.
Basically, Tibet's finances depend on subsidies from the central government, which account for almost 80 percent of Tibet's spending. Tibet is more than 6000 meters above sea level. Agriculture and industry are very difficult. I don't think these temples could survive without subsidies from the central government.
