I was a teenager in the early 90s and spent so many days over the summer here...The Tower of Terror was my first experience of a looping rollercoaster! I loved it! Seems so mild in comparison to coasters there days but at the time, it was the ride to experience! Went to Camelot in the early 00's and couldn't believe how much it had gone to the dogs. Sad really but you have to keep up with the modern times and update your rides or revamp if if you want to keep people coming . Thanks for posting this. Brought back some great memories.
This was before it became Twist & Shout! I remember when they were dismantling this ride a spark from a ripsaw burn the castle facade & partially scorched the track in the year 2000! I always liked how the loop was concealed by the castle facade!
I always recall that I went on Tower of Terror and Excalibur in June 2000 but was that date wrong? As it may have been 1999 🤔 I need to know if those rides were still up in summer 2000 or if they had gone by then.
The Beast stopped half way through when we were on it and we had to get off and walk to get out. They out the lights up and inside the cave were just piles of boxes at the side of the track covered in illuminous paint!
Yeah I remember that, it was pretty cool, they changed it to Venom late on and put a bunch of snakes in the queue area but it was never as good as beast.. well it was the same coaster but the atmosphere was different.
Thankyou for posting this. So many fond memories of this place as a kid. I recall once at the end of a day the black knight from the jousting was running this and just me and my sister were on it. He kept opening the belts at the start it was hilarious!
Looks like that new train was added when it was at Loudoun Castle before it moved to Croatia - see this 2008 POV as it has the train funnel front ruclips.net/video/4vJsK0JoFDg/видео.html
I went on this ride and kept my eyes closed.. I had no idea there was a loop!! I always thought it was in my head cos there wasn't anything over the shoulders strapping you in so thought that would have been unrealistic. Shocked! I always enjoyed the dragon though lol.
For anyone wondering this is essentially a flat pack version of the same coaster. There are many around the world - most famous is probably Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa.
I was on vacation to see my grandparents( from canada ) my mom took me and sister there. This was both of our furst roller coaster with an inversion. Seems so mild compared to what take my 8 year old now
Wait, they fit a loop in that structure? Cool, didn't look like it from the outside. Buuuut let's be honest, it's more like the cube of terror, not really a tower, lol.
I remember going on this as a 10 year old and it did something weird to my vision. At the time I thought it was going so fast that my brain couldn't keep up but watching this back with that never ending helix turn I wonder if I was just slowly blacking out
Ewzo xD According to RCDB only two coasters remain SBNO at Loudoun Castle...this one, and the four-man Bob Gold Rush (which must be in the running with the most relocations of a permanent coaster)
Similar to the old looping star at southport pleasure land in the early 90's but was to small for that then. So this coaster is the same maker as the fearsome mind bender and thriller , I believe those were the most intense with 6 plus G's
252Scooby Schwarzkopf made some pretty intense coasters...many of which pull over 5 Gs and possibly more. I don't know the exact stats for g-forces but Mindbender, Bullet and Magnum Force are all powerful g forces. Haven't ridden Thriller, sadly.
Nice video of Tower Of Terror David! I see the G-Forces didn't affect your film video camera that time considering how high the g's are on compact Schwarzkopf coasters. I yet to experience a Schwarzkopf coaster. :-)
John Brooks I recall the screen rolled / broke up more (with the analogue camcorder) on the negative g forces than it did on the positives. Shame you haven't experienced the g-forces of a Schwarzkopf looper. We have a non-looping Schwarzkopf at my local park, if you are interested.
***** Well, as you know, they've pretty much all left North America years ago as replacement parts have become quite rare for Schwarzkopf coasters but, that's not the case as their is Gerstlauer. Too bad North American Amusement parks moved to fast to remove them. :-( There are currently 14 Schwarzkopf Looping coasters (Shuttle and conventional) here in North America now. Nine of them are in the US and one of them is in Canada and the other 5 are in Mexico. Hopefully I'll experience one in Canada or the US soon. :-)
John Brooks I really must get those Mexican credits done! I think there are only two Schwarzkopf coasters in the UK, none of which invert. There are 16 in Europe, 4 looping...none close to home :-(
***** Well, there is Twist and Shout at Loudoun Castle but, it's been closed since 2010. Yes, Looping Schwarzkopf coasters are very far away from me as well. The closest looping Schwarzkopf to me is 636 km (395.19 mi) away from me which is a good 6-8 hour drive. But, I had just visited Dorney Park recently so, I could easily go to Hershey Park if I want to ride a Schwarkopf Looping Coaster. Too bad my home park, Canada's Wonderland never had one installed. Oh well, I'll just have to drive places to ride one which, would be worth it. :-)
Is it my imagination or was there actually a giant dinosaur/dragon/monster bursting out the side of the castle, all purple? Forgive my memory, I was like 3 lol.
Near the entrance to the park there was an animatronic green dragon in a cave, I vaguely remember some monster theming for The Beast (though was almost never running when I visited) and of course you had the Dragon Flyer diesel powered ride whose cars were dragon themed. You might have been mixing them in your memory.
Nearly fell out of this thing as a kid! When it went loop-the-loop I nearly slipped under the safety bar! If my sister hadn't have hung on to me for dear life I'd have been out!
That should never happen...rides like this will have minimum height requirements that would prevent anyone getting close to slipping out. I presume you were tall enough at the time, so cannot understand why that would have happened. I hope it hasn't ruined your appetite for roller coasters :-)
Sooty went on the Tower of Terror in an episode of ‘Sooty & Co.’ Named ‘Fun Park’.
Glad I found this brings back so many memories 🎢
Pleased you enjoyed it 🙂

This ride was Featured on the children's TV show Sooty & Co on the Episode Fun Park & Sooty, Soo & Matthew went on it
I went here with school in the early 90's. I went on this extremely dank and dark coaster that was almost completely dark called the beast.
its was called Venom
The Beast stopped half way through when we were on it and we had to get off and walk to get out. They out the lights up and inside the cave were just piles of boxes at the side of the track covered in illuminous paint!

It was The Beast when I went on it. Fantastic ride
The beast was sick

If I'm not mistaken, this is still in use, and named 'big Blue' roller coaster, at a theme park in Croatia
You are correct - it moved to Fun Park Biograd in Croatia in 2017 - I will update the description (which was written when it was SBNO)
@@davidjellis cheers David, have you seen video of it mate? It's got a different train now also,
No I haven't seen any videos - although to be honest I hadn't tried looking :-)
@@davidjellis it's got a new train, type in on here "big Blue roller coaster" 👍

Ahh yes my 1st looping coaster back in 1992 I believe , never forget the many G's this coaster pulled on the loop
252Scooby I love these compact Schwarzkopf coasters...terrific g forces!
Also my first too! Lol
Same here brings back good memories
Mine too. I went in the late 80s and early 90s. Sad to hear its gone now
Same for me first roller coaster 🎢
I use to be shit scared of this when I was a kid. Had to hype myself up all day to go on it haha
For anyone wondering this is essentially a flat pack version of the same coaster. There are many around the world - most famous is probably Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa.
There was only three Silver Arrow coasters built...amazingly all three are still operating
I was on vacation to see my grandparents( from canada ) my mom took me and sister there. This was both of our furst roller coaster with an inversion. Seems so mild compared to what take my 8 year old now
My first rollercoaster was this ride I went on it 6 or 7 times on a school field trip

Alot of louden castles rides went to lightwater valley down in england but im not sure what ones stayed and what ones went

John Brooks NB- This coaster IS Twist and Shout :-)
I never knew Camelot Theme Park had a Silverarrow
Yes - it was there 11 years (1989 to 2000)
Is it my imagination or was there actually a giant dinosaur/dragon/monster bursting out the side of the castle, all purple?
Forgive my memory, I was like 3 lol.
Not sure - couldn't find any photos of it that showed a dragon

Same thing happened to me when I was 10. Nearly come out under the safety bar on the loop. Was well bad
@@davidjellis no idea, but it did. Seems like I'm not the only one, either. I've been frightened of rollercoasters ever since

@@whiggygirl sorry to read that
did they replace this with knightmare?????
Not directly...Knightmare came in 7 years after this went
I came here thanks to Sooty!
I first saw this ride on Sooty & Co from Fun Park
@@Cazkumali Yep
Anyone else think Disney sued the park because of this ride?
If anything it would be Camelot that would. This was built before Disney's Tower of Terror 😊
GameCheater803 There are three coasters with that name...it's not a Disney trademark
:)
Remember this old freaky place from 19s Trust me it's ABANDONED!! dragon flyer flyer of DEATH AND THE knight Night of death Nightmare's...??!
Moana.H. uta atu in English please.
