I must say I have been around farm animals my entire life (65 yrs) and your chickens are among the most beautiful, healthiest looking that I can remember. Bravo you two!
Bea, I’ve been thinking this for a long time, and felt I had to mention it to you today. I had never paid any close- up attention to chickens before I started watching them on your videos. Your beautifully lit film of them and loving appreciation you have for them has really captivated me. They are beautiful and each so unique. So thanks so much for opening my eyes.
honestly, I've never really gave chickens much thought till watching the homesteading that Bea did with them. I swear these are the most gorgeous chickens and it is down to Bea's love and care!!❤🥰🐓
I would love coming along to Alaska! But cannot leave hubby alone even for 5 days. I will be watching for loads of videos & photos. Perhaps attendees could add #indieprojectsinalaska or something we could follow. Bee, we paint the walls with semi glass because it's more scrubbable and you will be cleaning the oils from the cats rubbing against the rods. The idea of the black against the oiled fir? Awesome! So exciting. Love the nature scenes you tuck into your videos!
Semi-gloss is common in America. There is (from shiney to flat): gloss, semi-gloss, satin, egg-shell and matte (flat). So it'll definitely have some shine, just not completely shiny.
I had never heard of the product Hammerite before and, as I have an old pub table I need to paint, thought I would investigate. All I have ever used on metal projects is Rustoleum and it turns out that Hammerite is a much better product. So, Bea and Theo, thanks for that!
The sladder is looking great, fits perfectly, and may I say I nearly died laughing when Theo held aloft his old sandal recommissioned to new duties, god it was so funny but very practical. I like to recycle etc too. Can't wait to see the mezzanine railings barrier. The cats, hens and goats all looked very cute,it is sweet how Fernando likes snoozing on your laps, can't beat a cat on a lap.
Personally, I would put the railings on the outside of the beams giving you the maximum width of the loft space. You have both done an amazing job on your GIANT tiny home!
Wouldn’t it be dangerous if they accidentally fell on it? They would have to re-in force it heavily to withstand that, and that would compromise the beauty of the loft.
I agree I love the spring flowers popping up...... and in a vase on a table inside your home. Just. Brings in the beautiful nature from outside!!!!!! ☮️ to all...
My step dad used to collect the wood shavings from the wood he cut & mixed it with glue to plug holes, handy tip for future projects if anyones interested 😄
That is a great way to do small wholes and cracks too because it matches so well and will take stain basically the same. Just make sure to use the right glue. Like a good wood glue that dries clear like Theo had.
Oh my gosh..you just helped me with something. If dad is still around, kudos to him from me. If not, hope your proud of such a smart, practical man. TY. 🌸🌺🌷
Bee, your love for your chickens is so sweet to watch. A dear friend from near Boston (UK) lhad the same love of her chickens. Her coop was called "Cluckingham Palace" due to its grand size and intricate structure. I'm looking forward to your Coop 2.0. Love the videos you and Theo post for our enjoyment. Best always.
The sladder is amazing. Semi gloss will come out shiny not Matte. But take a green sponge and you can knock down the shine. Next time if you need to have Matte remember it’s Matte, Satin, semi gloss and then gloss.
Don’t forget eggshell 🤣. Though I personally have trouble telling any difference between satin & eggshell. It’s probably the paint industries way of getting a good laugh at us.
I truly enjoyed your vlog today. Your land looks so beautiful with all the spring blooms. You two are such an inspiration to me. The way you take each setback in stride and just go with it. Everything inside is really coming together beautifully. I can not wait to see you start your kitchen, it is going to be so awesome.
We used galvanized mesh normally used for laying concrete on our deck railing so we just have a top and bottom wooden rail, and we absolutely love how open it makes our deck feel while still giving safety for little kids and animals so they don't fall over. I love finding purposes for things that it wasn't designed for. The rebar should look cool!
The chicken shelter is a wonderful safe area. You have done it properly. You have had so much on your plate. Their safety will is all important until you get to it. Your home looks amazing. 👌 Well done. The ladder looks incredible. So happy for you. X
A dear friend built a beautiful log home from a recycled log barn and several cabins. The main floor was plugged like your ladder. She cut hundreds of cherry plugs from dowel that they made from old cherry boards.
Anyone thinking of going to Alaska, go! We went two summers ago and it was beautiful. Amazing. I'd go again in a heartbeat. Take a good raincoat, it rains some every day but it was still fun. You won't regret it.
The thin rebar spindles painted black will almost disappear onto the background. Love the idea. My litte sister was in the south of Spain when those Sahara winds came through. Everthing was covered with orange dust including the pup.
I love how the two of you think and work together. The ladder looks fabulous... all so perfect with the wood work done throughout. Brilliant. Well done the ...ten... (plus goats, 5 I think) of you. So exciting and you maintain the spirit throughout. If you don't think I'm patronising...Well Done!!
You both are so precise with your work, it's amazing the work you have put into your barn convertion. I would definitely hire both of youto renovate any properties. I think the metal on the mezzanine will look amazing and match the metal of the fire. As I've mentioned before you have a talent for interior design. ❤
Hi Theo and bea you are doing a grand job on the ladder the wood being outside for a while helps with the colour, bea certainly gets a nice finish to the wood you work hard to achieve what you want.
Semi-gloss is a popular paint here in Canada. People use it in places I think that are frequently cleaned, like kitchens and bathrooms. It's a bit shiney, but on a wall it's not strange. I love watching this build! The sladder looks great!
Wow what a great finish to your ladder it is so nice to see you both working together ❤ and I love your backing music look forward to seeing the final vlog xx
I'm Portuguese myself & I can picture myself living there & building an amazing woodshop. I'd build furniture for a living. Thank you for sharing. I'm living life through the both of you, im very happy for the both of you. Only wish I was there as well.
These rods are reinforcing rods we used to live in Spain , we used them for our extension for our foundations , then like you we used them for some our gates , love what you have done I’m so envious , enjoy , xx
Your cottage looks so beautiful. Nearly finished. I live in Australia and we have semi-gloss paint. It's been around ever since I can remember (long time). The Cabots clear water-based is called Satin. That is the equivalent of semi-gloss. So pleased to see that railing going in. You will be finished soon and starting to landscape - that will be the wonderful finishing touch. It will be a little paradise in a year or two.
Ya know what? This is your home and you get to do whatever you want with it🌈💚💞 Love the rebar as the mezzanine barrier👏👏👏 Theo, a hint when drilling holes...measure the depth you want in the wood/wall/etc then place a piece of tape around the drill bit at that same depth and your holes will all be at the same depth🤩💞 Love you guys!💛💙💞 Stay safe, be well and see ya next time

Those safety walls/barrier on the mezzanine are going to be awesome, what a great material to use 😍 The ladders look amazing, very sturdy and attractive already 👌🏻
Hey guys. Nice to see the progress in your barn conversion. Just want to say, those vibrating sanders are cute. That’s probably all they have going for them. You have a much better chance of succeeding while using your orbital sander. It comes down to paper grit. I’ve worked with wood my whole life and I know that all types of sanders have their place but the orbital sander is the most versatile. Good luck with your project. Also, when drilling several holes that need equal depth, putting a piece of tape on the drill bit as a gage helps.
Do you plan on putting any skid proof feet of the ladder? It might help it from sliding when going up and down the ladder. Love everything you've done. What a perfect little house you have created. You must be so proud of all your hard work.
I'm just so impressed by the attention to detail and the craftsmanship of everything you two do. You make quite a team. You should set up a workshop one day and build handmaid furniture or something. With your skills you'd be successful I'm sure. Anyway, everything is beautiful.❤️

The barn just keeps getting better and better. Your hard work is paying off. The barn is so beautiful. Here in the USA we have four types of paint flat, eggshell, semi gloss and gloss. It gets very confusing. I tend to use flat and eggshell since I don’t care for glossy looking paint. Hope the paint works out for you.
It’s amazing how the detail with the dowel and support for treads make such a difference to you despite the fact that it won’t be visible. Awesome job!!! I’m almost sure you won’t be moving the stairs once everything is complete but is it too late to add felt or rubber pieces to the bottom of the ladder so that it doesn’t ruin your beautiful new floors?
Have you considered a ships ladder type hand rail? Can be made from wood or black pipe. Six or eight inches high. Something to hold onto when mounting the ladder or stepping off....Especially when carrying some thing. BTW...Amazing job, looks wonderful.
In Canada there is always three glosses. Matte, Semi gloss gives the illusion of matte but it is easier to clean and then of course full glosse which is used in Schools and hospitals that needs to be strong and easily cleaned.

Hi Leo, if it’s still too shiny after it dries, use a bit of steel wool or a green pad to knock down the shine, good luck, H
Exactly. In the states we have gloss, semi-gloss, Matt, flat.
And you can indeed nock the gloss down with a light sanding.

The sladder is coming on and looks great. I thought sladder was a word ha ha joke on me. Have a great day everyone.

We know you have many plans to share. I'm waiting to see how you landscape around the house and have all the construction clutter stored and not visible. Will you create an English garden style?
Excited to see that phase. 😁❤️
Looks amazing!!! Semi gloss can be pretty glossy. But you can dull it to a mat by going over it with a really fine sanding.
Love the choice of metal for the mezzanine banister. I look forward to seeing the finished product. ❤️
Y'all are going to have so much fun in Alaska ! Wish I could go but my pocket book will not allow it . I have to live my dreams through y'all. I live my adventures through your eyes !
