A successful overhaul 🙏 Developed by JR East as a measuring train, the East iE Keidensha E491 and East iD KiYa E193 series are designed to inspect and monitor track conditions, signalling and catenary operation. The electrical and diesel units are painted in white and red, white symbolizing rigor, red control. The E491 iE series (I for Intelligence, E for Electric) is an EMU electric unit, while the KiYa E193 iD series (i for Intelligence and D for Diesel) is an EMD diesel unit. Each unit comprises three cars, equipped with regenerative air brakes, and a MaYa 50 car for structure spacing control. Built in 2002 on the basis of the E231 series The E491 dual-voltage electric series (replaces the E193/E443/MoYa series) in 1.5kV DC and 20kV AC built by Hitachi (Mzc/Tzc cars) and Kinki Sharyo (Mz cars) with an asynchronous Hitachi IGBT transistor drive train, while the E193 series (replaces the kiya 193 unit) is designed in 2002 by Niigata Engineering whose activities were taken over by ADtranz taken over by Bombardier and Hitachi (Mzc/Tzc/Mz). for non-electrified lines equipped with a North American Cummins diesel engine. Details East Series iE Keidensha E491 : Kumoya E491-1 MZC Hitachi, measuring equipment for trackside signalling with additional pantographs with traction motor cut-off. Also equipped with additional front camera and side spotlight. Moya E490-1 Mz, Kinki Sharyo, catenary measuring equipment. The pantograph is used differently depending on the train's direction of travel, with an observation dome on the roof. Kuya E490-1 Tzc Track condition measuring equipment also equipped with pantograph. Details East iD Series KiYa E193 : KiYa E1931-1 MZC Hitachi, measuring equipment for trackside signalling with safety equipment and auxiliary power supply required for operation. Also equipped with additional front camera and side spotlight. KiYa E192-1 Mz, Kinki Sharyo, catenary measuring equipment. The pantograph is used differently depending on the train's direction of travel, with an observation dome on the roof. KiKuya E490-1 Tzc Track condition measuring equipment without diesel equipment. Stationed at the Katsuta vehicle center for the E491 iE series and at the Akita Centre Minamiakita general vehicle center for the E193 ID series. Other private operators also use these double-panel aluminum trains to check their installations. Current operations and future prospects Inspection trains are used for the inspection work mentioned above, and are sometimes seen in Tokyo.
