Just got an ID.3 and really disappointed that there are no rear speakers.... It's quite ridiculous and even more so that there is no retrofit option to add speakers if you happened to get a lower trim than Tech. If you have any recommendations on adding extra speakers and a subwoofer via third parties, it would be great to hear your thoughts
Was quite surprising to us too! Unfortunately, we have no recommendations in this respect, you might be best looking into forums or going into a local company who does in-car audio systems.
I also ordered the Pro S Tour 5. This car will usually be ordered by families with children. Otherwise you would rarely need the 5th seat. I was shocked when I heard there are no rear speakers.
The 'Family' spec of this car doesn't have rear speakers. It's only available as part of a £2,200 option. That is staggering, and may end up being the single thing that stops me buying this car¡
I bought the basic ID3 Family a few months ago....didn't realise it didn't have rear speakers until a couple of weeks after i got it and i was grumbling that the audio was rubbish....turns out the Golf GTi i traded in for it had been specced up by the original owner with most mod cons for a 2016MY last gen mk7, I know i wouldn't have spent the extra £1500 for uprated audio system - even if i was Pioneer!
I find it very disappointing that VW has gone down this route. Even their family model derivative doesn't have rear speakers, and yet they market it as an ideal family car. Doesn't make sense!
Since the review, it would seem that VW has listened; the 6+1 speaker setup is now available as an option - still not ideal, but at the very least one can add speakers.
@@TotallyEV Yes, but unfortunately only available as a package costing £2200.00 That's a lot of money to pay just to get 2 basic speakers in the back. Yes, other options are included but still... Perhaps it will change again for the next Model Year update.
@@TotallyEV any 165mm speakers will be an upgrade. Just take it to your local car audio shop and they will supply and fit. You'll have to take the feeds from the front speakers since installing proper rear channels you need to be able to change system codes. All you lose is the ability to fade the rear speakers from the display but if you install a 4 channel amp there are ways around it. Also change the fronts whilst you are there. The audio guys can sort the crossovers out.
No AUX input or standard USB so you can't use your classic ipod or grab a USB stick. No rear speakers and no wonder VW has so many trust issues to combat....miserable really. All well recorded classical music has a wide dynamic range, not sure still how this system would cope with that. Should never have to use EQ on a decent system....
That's very true; no other means of connecting other than Bluetooth or via phone (USB). As for EQ, most of the time you'll want to customise or tailor it to your music taste; indeed some systems (such as the one found int he Tesla Model 3) barely need any EQ, but that's all very subjective.
You can buy a convertor from amazon for a few pounds. USB-C is the current and future standard. Most of my devices have it now. The sound system is actually excellent in the life. I do agree that they could have provided rear speakers, not that my kids want them as they are on their headphones all the time ...
I’m between Tesla’s as my Tesla is delayed - like most cars. Wanted an electric car so chose the ID3 for a month. I’m came on here because I couldn’t get the rear speakers to work…to find out there aren’t any! What is their logic! Totally and utterly stupid for a family car.
That’s a joke really and not even an alloys , modern car ruined by Vw stupid ideas. Wait for Toyota full ev I guarantee you that for the same money you will get much more 👍

Kufatec have a retrofit kit but i think it's not great value for money.
Kufatec wont work its software locked and needs to be unlocked by a dealer or something like that
Would you say having the two rear speakers (6 + 1) greatly enhances the overall the experience?
Wouldn't greatly improve it, but certainly will help you get a fuller sound even at the front of the cabin!
I also ordered the Pro S Tour 5. This car will usually be ordered by families with children. Otherwise you would rarely need the 5th seat. I was shocked when I heard there are no rear speakers.
Indeed, rather disappointing!
You know if oem amplifier can handle 2ohm speakers, or will ruin it?
Likely but honestly wouldn't be able to know for sure, sorry!
1:30 I like how they give the fade to front and rear... With no rear speakers.
Haha yup!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, sorry to hear that!
I ordered the ID.3 Tour 5 which also has no rear speakers at a price of 42,000 Euros. I have to say I think that's absolutely disgraceful.
Indeed, quite disappointing!
Tour pro has rear speakers,VW confirmed that.
It is the harman/kardon sound?
Nope!
H/K will be an option soon, probably, ID.4 already has that

@@mathewdennison5354 that's a good point; indeed too much money to spend for such a feature. Potentially might reduce in price next year, let's see!
I prefer you touch the screen, command it more than just talk about what feature it has
W in VW stands for wnk. Cheap ass standard system like something from the 90's. Had to wire my own back speakers and sub in my ID3
Which speakers did you opt for?

Haha! As for the adaptor - you'd be looking at male 3.5mm to USB-C - not sure that'd work for an old iPod
VWs head of R&D got “let go” only a couple of months after the ID 3 launch, FYI. 👀

Let's see what Toyota has to offer; it's pretty sparse at this time.
you don't give the power!! (watts)
Can't give a figure, if the manufacturer doesn't share it with us!
🤔
No subwoofer :((((((((((((((((((((((((( They completely failed with the audio system. This is a deal breaker for me
Unfortunately, most modern vehicles don't have subwoofers (unless it's part of a separate sound system), which is quite disappointing for audio lovers
@@TotallyEV yes true. The disappointment comes from the lack to have even the option to get a good sound system
That's true, would have been good to have the option. Suspect we'll have an Audi e-tron A3 equivalent one day and it'll come with the audio upgrades
