President Marcos called on the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to defend the country’s territory amid a new security landscape and the South China Sea row. Speaking to troops of the Visayas Command in Cebu, Marcos described the current geopolitical situation in the world today as “most complicated.” He said there was a time when the Philippines did not have to worry about threats and the intensification of competition between the superpowers. “For many, many years, we were able to maintain that peace and maintain that understanding with all of our neighbors. Now things have begun to change and we must adjust accordingly,” he said. “We know that the Philippines is just a small country but we still need to defend our territory.”
He said the Philippines used to have clear boundaries, but now these are being questioned - a situation that further highlights the military’s important mission of safeguarding the country.
“We are facing a more complex foreign situation in the Philippines. Like what I said, that in this part of the world, here in the Philippines, South China Sea, among all issues, it is said to be the most complicated geopolitical situation,” the President said in a mix of English and Filipino.
“Even if there is war in Ukraine, the South China Sea is said to be the most difficult and most complicated problem. That is why I said the mission of the AFP has changed. We need to safeguard those that we did not need to think much about previously,” he added.

The Philippines, as a sovereign nation, has its independence. It is crucial for Filipino citizens to assert their rights when Chinese warships sail close to their coastal waters. While China provides financial assistance to the Philippines, it can be seen as a means of exerting control rather than genuine support. It creates a situation where the Philippines feels obligated to follow China's directives due to financial obligations. If the President of the Philippines fails to protect the country's interests, it is ultimately the responsibility of the people to stand up for their nation.

From the definition of "lost" above - **HOW CHINA LOST "ASIA"?!!!** Consider the Philippines, which has an interest in maintaining both its growing economic ties with neighboring China as well as its half-century-old security alliance with the U.S.. The Philippines’ last president, Rodrigo Duterte, placed greater emphasis on the former, turning sharply away from the U.S. and toward China after his election in 2016. **In exchange for effectively siding with China in the escalating great-power competition, Duterte sought Chinese investment in his pet project - the “Build! Build! Build!” infrastructure program - and moderation of China’s aggressive behavior in the West Philippine Sea, particularly its seizure of islets and outcroppings claimed by the Philippines. **But China did not oblige. When Duterte’s presidency ended last June, China had delivered less than 5% of the $24 billion it had pledged to invest in the Philippines, and its provocations in the West Philippine Sea, which comprises part of the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone, continued unabated!!!**
Duterte’s successor, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., has so far taken a more prudent strategic approach. Deeply concerned about the territorial disputes fueled by Chinese claims in the South China Sea, Marcos has decided to reaffirm and enhance his country’s partnership with the U.S.!!! To this end, the Philippines has decided to grant the U.S. access to four more military bases - for a total of nine - some of which are located near disputed areas of the South China Sea. American troops rotate regularly through the designated bases. The U.S. and the Philippines have also agreed to resume joint patrols in the South China Sea, which, under Duterte, were suspended for six years. Beyond the U.S., UNDER PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS - the Philippines and Japan recently agreed to deepen defense ties, with Japanese troops securing greater access to Philippine territory for training and logistics. Moreover, the Philippines is pursuing greater maritime cooperation with the United Kingdom. The two countries held their inaugural Maritime Dialogue on Feb. 7. Two weeks later, the Philippine defense minister agreed with his Australian counterpart to formalize their “strategic” defense engagement - potentially including joint patrols in the South China Sea.
So, the Philippines is gradually becoming a key hub of military cooperation among Southeast Asia’s democracies *UNDER PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS - PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, AND INDONESIA!!!* This affords the U.S. important strategic benefits - for which China has only itself to blame. China’s efforts to bully its neighbors into acquiescing to its demands and preferences have not only failed; they have led to the emergence of a kind of anti-China coalition in the Indo-Pacific.
This has certainly been the case in South Korea. After the country agreed in 2016 to deploy a U.S. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system on its territory - a response to escalating threats from North Korea - China imposed heavy economic sanctions. With that, public opinion in South Korea turned sharply against China: measured on a scale of 1 (most negative) and 100 (most positive), South Korean sentiment toward China now stands at 26.4 - two points less favorable than sentiment toward North Korea (28.6), according to a Hankook Research poll conducted in 2021.
Partly in response to public opinion, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, like Marcos, has sought to strengthen its alliance with the U.S.. He is also working to improve long-strained relations with Japan, not least by announcing a plan to compensate Koreans who performed forced labor under Japanese colonial rule during World War II.
China’s aggressive sanctions against Australia - imposed in 2020 as punishment for the Australian government’s call for an independent inquiry into the origins of COVID-19 - spurred a similar foreign-policy reorientation. In September 2021, Australia formed an “enhanced security partnership,” known as AUKUS, with the U.S. and the United Kingdom. And Australia, India, Japan and the U.S. have sought to strengthen the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue.
**All of these steps aim to bolster security,!!! In his 1995 book “Diplomacy,” former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger argued that it was Imperial German leaders’ combination of “truculence” and “indecisiveness” that “hurled their country first into isolation and then into war.” In his view, World War I erupted partly because leaders were “swayed by the emotions of the moment and hampered by an extraordinary lack of sensitivity to foreign psyches.” A similar dynamic may be at play today. Ensuring that the dark history of the 20th century does not echo today will require sound judgment from both sides. China must recognize the fear it has incited with its bullying and democracies across the Indo-Pacific must take care to ensure that their responses do not heighten tensions excessively. HOWEVER, DUE TO "EXTREMELY HIGH COST" FOR CHINA - CHINA WILL SURELY CHOOSE "PEACE" AND CHINA KNOWS THAT THEY CAN EASILY BE CHOKED AT THE "STRAIT OF MALACCA" BY "AUKUS ALLIANCE - AUSTRALIA, UNITED STATES,, UNITED KINGDOM, INDIA, AND JAPAN" AND "SOUTHEAST ASIA'S ALLIANCE - PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, AND INDONESIA" AND BE BLOCKED THEIR "OIL IMPORTS" FROM ARAB COUNTRIES AND ANGOLA. - DEPRIVING THEM OF THEIR 80% CONSUMPTION OF OIL ENERGY!!!**

Most Filipinos think alliances to defend territory a must - Eight out of 10 Filipinos agree that the Philippines should form alliances and strengthen its relationships with like-minded countries to defend its territorial and economic rights in the West Philippine Sea, the latest commissioned Pulse Asia survey showed. Results of the survey, commissioned by international think tank Stratbase ADR Institute, were released at its forum, “The 7th Year of the Arbitral Victory: Defending the West Philippine Sea, the Indo-Pacific, and the Rules-Based Order.” **Pulse Asia conducted the survey from June 19-23, 2023, and asked 1,200 Filipinos nationwide whether or not they agree with the statement: “Alliances should be formed and relationships strengthened with other countries that have similar beliefs to the Philippines to defend the territorial and economic rights of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea and protect international order.”!!!**
Moreover, when asked to identify measures the Marcos administration should prioritize to effectively address issues in the West Philippine Sea, seven out of 10 Filipinos, or 72 percent said the government should strengthen the military capability of the Philippines, especially the Navy, Coast Guard, and the Air Force.
Sixty-four percent said the government should conduct joint maritime patrols and military exercises with allied countries, and 61 percent said the government should shift the focus of Philippine defense institutions, and allocate more resources to strengthen the ability to defend the country from external threats.
**In this Pulse Asia survey, 89 percent of Filipinos said they trust the United States, 79 percent trust Australia, 78 percent trust Japan, and 64 percent trust the United Kingdom!!!**

**HOW CHINA LOST "ASIA"?!!!** Consider the Philippines, which has an interest in maintaining both its growing economic ties with neighboring China as well as its half-century-old security alliance with the U.S.. But China did not oblige.
So, the Philippines is gradually becoming a key hub of military cooperation among Southeast Asia’s democracies **UNDER PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS - PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, AND INDONESIA!!!** This affords the U.S. important strategic benefits - for which China has only itself to blame.

The move of shifting by the Philippines towards the eastern hemisphere has drawn the attention with the Chinese and Russian government but similarly the US and other western states. So to be fair to Duterte and the Philippines, their unexpected shift of geopolitical friendliness towards new states particularly towards those that are direct opposite of traditional allies really allowed Philippines to gain the attention or allowed the Philippines to be seen/ included in the global geopolitics. And we know that by being a country that is talked about is a much better situation than being one that is not talked about at all.
Furthermore, by being the abnormal government (Duterte presidency) in the philippine history of governance especially in geopolitics, it opened a lot of new ideas as to how Philippines as a country is perceived, from a full western ally to having a more uncertain status in its allegiance. I don't think it was a bad idea to shift during Duterte's time, because of the personality of the president, many could have foreseen the event.
Another thought is that after Dutertes time in power, the next president will have a more blank canvas to operate in and can paint how they want Philippines to move in the global scene, since duterte has already done the heavy lifting of putting Philippines into a more neutral state (atleast in geopolitics) as it countered the heavily favoured western allegiance stance of the Philippines by exploring new networks with China and Russia. also the shift allowed US to rethink Philippines importance in their geopolitical dominance.
So all in all I'd give the move an ok result, as it allowed: Philippines to gain international attention, to have a role of importance towards global powers, opened new connections and relationship, positioned Philippines in terms of being perceived as its own state rather than a western follower, also it allowed to explore the idea of working with China and Russia, which we all know sucked for the Philippines but not only does it allow for new knowledge but also set a precedent case for the Philippines when thinking about working with China. as well as Russia where there was hints of good talks and working cooperation between Philippines-Russia.

"MY" Expectations and Conclusions - An exploration of the origins and nature of Philippine and U.S. interests in the South China Sea reveals a substantial degree of alignment. While this harmonization ought to be availed for the purposes of regional stability, increased tensions in the U.S.-China relationship will likely lead President Bongbong Marcos to pursue more assertive policies towards Beijing as it hitches its wagon to President Joe Biden more thoroughly. However, given that China is a close neighbor and trade partner to the Philippines, President Bongbong Marcos could also pursue a parallel set of policies to manage tensions and capitalize on areas for potential cooperation. United States Foreign Affairs Secretary Blinken already started his during his recent visit in China. The recent decision of the Philippine Supreme Court has left joint fishery and resource exploration efforts stillborn so long as China insists on equal ownership of the maritime zones in question. Therefore, President Bongbong Marcos' foreign policy in the short term will likely prioritize minilateral coalition-building against China as its main diplomatic thrust, safeguarded by limited, de-escalatory engagement with Beijing. **This will proceed alongside a more comprehensive program of U.S.-backed military capacity building to deter Chinese incursions in the maritime domain!!!
"MY" Expected Policies from the Philippines - President Bongbong Marcos will prioritize increasing U.S. base access in areas with maritime implications such as in Palawan (ALREADY DID) and Western Luzon (Subic Bay and Subic Airport). While most existing EDCA sites (FIVE IN TOTAL NOW) are holdovers from the GWOT, prioritizing cooperation on land operations and counterinsurgency tactics, the new set of proposed locations (ADDITIONAL FOUR IN TOTAL) suggests that President Bongbong Marcos is committed to drawing on U.S. assistance to enhance its air and sea capabilities and project power into China-implicated theaters like the South China Sea and Luzon Strait. Going forward, President Bongbong Marcos will also be persuaded into re-opening the Agila Subic Shipyard to U.S. troops as I said earlier -a strategic boon on the South China Sea’s eastern seaboard that could open the door for more regular joint patrols. It would also be a powerful symbol of the rehabilitation of U.S.-Philippine military ties!!! President Bongbong Marcos will modernize its navy and coast guard with Chinese ‘gray zone’ operations in mind so as to build a viable defensive line against future encroachments. The Philippines has already been creative in its defensive tactics-such as by deliberately grounding a vessel on the Second Thomas Shoal to act as a buffer between Mischief Reef and Palawan!!! Manila’s development of asymmetric defensive tactics and systems will provide its sailors with much-needed defenses against novel challenges (like lasers), and actively preparing for Chinese hybrid operations will mitigate escalations into live-fire from the Philippine side.
President Bongbong Marcos will increase international participation in joint military exercises such as Balikatan (ALREADY HAPPENED) ; enduring commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and fostering military cooperation, with - U.S. Marines and Sailors (MASA 23 Exercise in Palawan) and with U.S. Air Force in Subic (Cope Thunder Exercise 23) ; etc. Australian units have been included in the Balikatan exercise since 2014, but military cooperation with East Asian and fellow ASEAN states may also be pursued as part of Manila’s coalition-building agenda. Japan’s participation in last month’s smaller Salaknib exercise is an indicator of this trend. More participants in these exercises, in addition to enhancing the show of force, will allow for greater sharing of expertise and build rapport for interoperability. res under serious dispute!!!

In PBBM's first year of presidency, he realized threats from both the opposition and his own allies. VP Sarah Duterte's popularity and coup d'etats in PH history concern him. Fake news and discontent from Duterte supporters add to the challenge. With many Duterte loyalists in the government, PBBM struggles to appoint his choices, leading him to seek USA's backing. This move is about local politics, not geopolitics. Being machiavellian, he views allies as bigger threats than enemies. An ace up his sleeve is essential to safeguard his presidency.

Consider the Philippine-China-United States Relation - President Bongbong Marcos has an interest in maintaining both its growing economic ties with neighboring China as well as its half-century-old security alliance with the U.S..

I think what have been missed out on this was Duterte was the key player in this Chess game. Duterte is highly strategic which Marcos is now reaping the wins. Looking back at Duterte's independent foreign policy, it was a big wake up call for the United States to look back and check on its little brother, the Philippines. During Obama's America, the United States has been very hesitant to openly support the Philippines on the West Philippine Sea dispute. So when Duterte came he saw it as an opportunity to tell America that hey if we are important to you show us some support and if you cant do that to an ally then might as well I'll seek peace with an enemy lurking behind my fence, and so he did.
Duterte's mushy-mushy relationship with China had made great impact to the US given that its long time strategy to contain China might be having loopholes. Hence, as Marcos came in, the United States has been proactive again on this part of the region. What Marcos should do now is to make use of this revitalized relationship with the US and bolster what ever military support it can get at least to arm the Philippines against a possible South China Sea conflict between the United States and China.
It is bound to happen and it will happen. Whether a direct confrontation or not, the Philippines is bound to be or already a piece of the Chess game.

Filipinos are always like this. I know some Filipinos who are willing to switch immediately to the other side that is more beneficial without thinking about what they got from you in the past. In short, when you deal with Filipinos, you should be careful because they will leave you once they find a more advantageous side without considering the past favors and the harm you suffer. They just think for themselves.

We needed a President like Duterte, not only to save our country from serious threats like that of drug issues ,but also to prepare the path of Marcos to be able to get back to Malakanyang, that we have dreamed and longed for a long period of time.
Every President is unique and different. But President Duterte was found to be extraordinary unique and differrnt. For us, he was/is special, smart and intelligent . We call him Tatay because he has the quality of a supportive and concered Father. His words, his moves his approach and his behaviour cannot easily be judge by wise people. But we his children feel his kindness from our heart.
President Duterte got his chosen presidential
candidate zo be his successor victoriously last election , due to his wise and smart Strategie. I have not found anybody, including expert political analysts from the oppositions that have ever known what he really meant when he said that BBM is a weak person to become a president . It was his way of saying that he likes and trusts Marcos. In reality,he only wanted to comfort the oppositions and the anti Marcos.
Marcos was actually the only hope of President Duterte with for the continueity of his unfinished build, build, build projects which PBBM call " Build Better More".
Marcos and Duterte are unseparable important figures that are making the Philippines great again today in a unique way of working as Team. The two banlance the
difficult dealings and situations that clothe and surround our troubled country.
PBBM HAS DONE HIS JOB DURING HIS FIRST YEAR VERY SUCCESSFULLY. WISE PEOPLE CAN SEE HIS EXTRAORDENARY INNER STRENGTH IN FACING DIFFIRENT TRIALS AND TERRIBLE PUBLIC DEFAMATIONS. HE IS TRULLY NOT LOOKING AT ANYTHING BUT AT THE GOOD OF HIS OWN COUNTRY MEN.
THIS IS THE END OF ABUSIVE LEADERS WHO HAVE ONCE STOOD IN FRONT OF US.
THERE IS TIME FOR EVERYTHING. AND THE TIME FOR US TO BE HAPPY IN OUR COUNTRY HAS NOW COME.
YOU SEE THAT OUR COUNTRY IS NOW PROGRESSING. OUR GOVERNMENT IS NOW TRACKING THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH GOD'S GUIDANCE AND ASSISTANCE.
ONLY THE BLIND WHO HAVE CLEAR EYES DO NOT SEE THE AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT OF OUR PRESIDENT.
(THE ONE THAT HAS SAVED MY LIFE FROM THE POWER OF HATERED IS MY BOLDNESS AND MY ABILITY TO
    EXPRESS MYSELF.)
HOW WILL YOU KNOW THE PERSON'S INSIDE IF HE WILL NOT SPEAK HIS MIND AND BRING OUT HIS EMOTION ?
WARS, TROUBLES AND MISUNDERDTANDINGS ARE THE FRUITS OF OUR FAILURE TO EXPRESS OURSELVES IN WORDS AND ACTION . Even this, needs our flexibility and sensibility so that our approach may fit every type of personality, to achieve successfull result . The success of the result of our approach cannot be mesured by type of the reaction our opponnent or people who wrong us may show. Only time will tell the success of our fitted approach.
I just noticed that honest and sensible people have limited place in this world, because many love war more than peace without being aware of it.

Duterte understood the reality of the power dynamics in SEA but he could not do anything. The middle class and most politicians in the Philippines are too Americanised by a US controlled media.
Balancing assumes that the US will forever be stronger than China in East Asia. But the reality is China will likely be the dominant global power by 2050 and is already a comparable power in East Asia today.
China needs to control the South China Sea to ensure its dominance in the region and the Philippines is the main obstacle. China is already prepared for war with the US and Japan, Marcos renewed military cooperation with the US will make it easier for China to justify invading the Philippines to the ASEAN grouping.
Philippines can only hope that China's economy fails, which means that ASEAN economy will also fail. Marcos strategy has no win outcomes for the Philippines.
Duterte was trying to avoid becoming like a drug infested Mexico and find a place in a China dominated East Asia.

PRRD administration was one of the best in shifting a better Philippines for example in stopping it from becoming an illegal drug state country. Maybe, PRRD sided with China at that time when the world pampering China as a Manufacturing and Processing hub of the world for example in the year 2013, US chickens were processed in China and to be sold back to the US. At that time as an ordinary citizen observed that the world was so dependent on China and the Philippines was also so obsessed with how China grows its businesses. It was truly perceived as the Golden Time of the Philippine-China relationship during PRRD as evidenced by providing us with brand-new assault rifles. But sad to say, China was now described as greedy on Spratlys Island like the burden of the Philippines that was weakened by the 1986 People Power Revolution Era. China's invasion (Spratlys, NGCP, black sand, etc) and laser mockings of the Philippines are worsening and unchanging compared to the 3 conquerors of the country. PBBM administration is quite excellent at attaining global economic competitiveness while addressing food shortages as the Department of Agriculture Secretary and strengthening military forces more than his father (e.g. additional world-class military airfields). PBBM administration's only weakness this time is the growing illegal drug activities and Malaysia becomes like China.
