  • How To Fix Downloads Folder Not Responding on Windows 11,10
What exactly happens when your Downloads folder stops responding? Today, we've got a troubleshooting guide that'll come to the rescue if you've been experiencing issues with your Downloads folder not responding on Windows 11 or Windows 10.
    Let's jump right in!
    1. Click on the Windows Search bar at the bottom left.
    2. Type CMD, and right-click on the Command Prompt app.
    3. Click on Run as administrator from the drop-down list.
    4. Click on the Yes button to allow permission.
    5. In the Command Prompt window, Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
    6. This will start scanning your system, and this process will take time to complete it.
    7. Close the Command Prompt window, and Restart your computer.
    8. Open the Command Prompt window again.
    9. Type sfc /scannow command, and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
    10. The scanning will start and will show you the result at the completion of the scanning process.
    11. Close the Command Prompt window, and Restart the computer.
    12. Click on the Window icon at the bottom left, and then click on Settings.
    13. Click on the Update & Security option.
    14. Click on the Troubleshoot on the left panel.
    15. Click on the Additional troubleshooters text link on the right side.
    16. Scroll down the page, and click on the Windows Store Apps.
    17. Now, click on the Run the troubleshooter button.
    18. This will start detecting any problem and fix it.
    19. Once all is done, then close the Settings window.
Wasn’t that easy? Have a nice day!

You can also try rightclicking the downloads folder and go into properties. Click on "customize" and change the "Optimize this folder for:" to "Documents" and then check the checkbox underneath it.
Edit: I noticed that for some people it just does not work when opening the folder via quick access in explorer. The workaround that i found was to create a shortcut for the downloads folder on the desktop and then removing it from quick access. You create a shortcut by just dragging the downloads folder on to the desktop.

Unfortunately that did not work for me either. I did Steps 1&2, but locating the same Troubleshooter on Win 11 is problematic (we would need more info on that). I ran some of the trubleshooters but the problem was not solved.
What worked for me was accessing Downloads from Chrome (Ctrl+J) and there clicking "Show in folder". Try deleting the last downloaded file as it might be the one causing problems. In my case it was a ".zip" and I unzipped it and deleted the .zip and now I can finally access my Downloads folder from Explorer too.

Thank you for the video. I did as it said but in my case, the advanced troubleshooter bit at the end of the video couldn't automatically fix the issue. I then read elsewhere about deleting the contents of the download file. I didn't want to do that really, but I thought about what files had I downloaded before the problem. I found that it was a zip file of photos Id downloaded from my Google Photos. I deleted them and everything worked. they were an odd type of file but as id deleted them i forgot to note the file extension. Hope this make help someone

Concise and to the point and the best fix video I found after many others. However, at the end of my process, my issue was "Hanging or crashing apps that was not resolved. I'll research this specific issue for a fix. Great video.

For anyone on windows 11 you must first run a dism checkhealth and then a scanhhealth then you may restore. But you have to run the other two in the cmd prompt first.

Optionally, you can skip the last step and try using file explorer and open download folder, mine worked.
