Such a bittersweet story. Wonderful that they've been reunited, but they've missed the majority of their little buddy's short life.

When I first purchased a home, I learned the hard way to keep the gate locked. I never let workers in the yard if my dogs were in the yard. Every worker promised to close the gate but not one worker ever kept that promise.
I observe the meter reader whacking my friendly dogs with a two-by-four. Fortunately I caught him on camera and the utility company fired him.
I changed the fence so that the utility meter was no longer inside the fence. Kept the six-foot fence locked.

I think they just want your money and tell you to reactivate. But the info is in the embedded chip already, not in some database in their office.

I had a tenet that had a cat in their house. When they moved they left her behind. She had a tag. I called the vet and ran the tag number just expecting it to come back to the tenet that had just moved, but it came back to a woman living across town. Turned out the tenet had stolen their neighbor's cat but never took the tag off. I was able to return the cat after my tenet had had her for a couple of years. The tenet called me about some business with the rented house, and I let them know how disgusted I was with them for stealing the cat and then abandoning it.

I'm so happy it got back to it's rightful owners. Shame on those other people. I just had the people across from me abandon their two cats. They since got pregnant and had kittens and now on their second litter they are pregnant with. I started feeding them about a month ago and got in trouble with the apartments I live at. I now feed them just inside my door at night. They have just started letting me pet them. I hope to catch them and get them and their new kittens to be adopted.

I don't understand why they would bring a dog back to a family that couldn't keep track of them in the first place....(if you don't know to be careful when workers are coming with your pets,..... that's not really very ....). it's so upsetting all these stories of dogs who get adopted by maybe nice or well meaning people- yet maybe not the most competent- and then even have harrowing lives after they get out, get lost.... this family also recently put the dog under for a dental surgery at 15 which is very risky- so within just weeks of getting it back again- the dog died- they put it down ultimately.
I don't mean to be rude, but this is a serious issue. I've read enough of these stories and assessed enough of the cases where I find it infuriating. For one thing, you need to keep track of your pets! at all times!! Maybe all pets should have an electric fence if people really can't keep track of them this much, as often as it happens (my friend's dog had this so it could run around their yard or to prevent that from ever happening...cats even might benefit from this) it's just really sad- who knows what this dog went through after it looked to this family for protection etc- already at 3 years old having clearly not had a stable home yet. Possibly most of its life was suffering it was still a stray at 12 and then dies shortly after being found again...
I feel like there's something wrong with this story- maybe someone else might-
family gets dog- loses it- family gets dog back- dies shortly after ....
Shelters also need to hire more savvy people or teach the importance of being extremely careful with dogs/cats getting lost.
I also hear stories of shelters reducing adoption fees/making pets free only to be surprised that bad people took them.
    ?
Not that we should live to expect the worst, but people need to be more aware....
being too well meaning without your feet on the ground leads to trouble- and needless suffering of animals!
not to be harsh, but these little white dogs are very sweet- and no match for predators in Arizona!!!
It's lucky it was even alive still.....

Can I send a universal "IDIOTS" to people that work in houses and leave gates open for pets to get out. As well, if you have someone working in your yard, it's a good idea to keep your pets inside that day or inside all the time! Amazing story, get your pets microchipped.

Oh gosh, people who work in our yards do this all the time even though they know we have a dog. I've tried telling them but I suppose it's habit of not closing the gate. Thankfully my dog has never gone missing, but yeah, now we keep him inside when the gardeners come to work

I just posted a comment alluding to this too..... do you mean the owners are idiots? or the workers? I think it's really the owners responsibility... or both too though- Once we had a heating guy who blocked the door with his foot when you answered to prevent anything!!! That was so great! But as a friend of ours says, we keep our cats locked up like crown jewels.... is more to the point people should take (as an adult I always carry my cats up to our room before people get there and I can tell my girl cat knows she is safe :) it's so cute... she's sassy, but with a soft spot!!!) there's a clip from "Absolutely Fabulous" with the stupidity tax- why not tax the stupid people... from that British 90s comedy... anyway... thanks for the saying the obvious, I was afraid to0 !!!! but its serious- too many pets go missing and have terrible lives after that!!!
