- I had the honour of racing a Japanese Keirin bike at the velodrome.
Because there are not warm up period on race days, I only had the race itself to get acquainted with the bike and how it handles.
This bike belongs to a friend who is crazy enough to let me race it.

I have a Panasonic Keirin just like this one. I find the bike to be very precise, responsive, and it obeys my every command, not twitchy at all.

I've raced both a steel keirin bike and a modern bike on an indoor velodrome, and it's true what you say, the njs ones aren't twitchy as such, but the little bit of spring in the frame under full power causes the bottom bracket to oscillate side to side just a bit whereas it won't do this on a modern bike. This can be disconcerting and if you aren't ready for it can make it hard to hold a line in a sprint. The higher the cadence the more pronounced it is.
That being said, the steel bike is still my go to for everything cos it's awesome
Thank you for your comment :) I wanted to ask, do the majority of Keirin bikes have this type of handling, feeling? What am I to expect from this type of frame? From what I have read it seems that the handling and feeling of it is unlike any other type of bike and I am really curious to experiencing this. So I am trying to understand in theory its many idiosyncrasies. Unfortunately where I live (Dominican Republic) there are no frames of this type so I will need to order the frame, no possibility of riding it in person first. I am doing research as I would like to try a Keirin frame, even if I have to restore, but having trouble finding affordable ones. Any help would be most appreciated

Nice video and gorgeous bike! I had an NJS frame from a different builder that was my daily driver on the road for a few years. Twitchy, yes, but once I got used to it every other bike felt sluggish. They’re just so fun to ride, really got to get another.

Very cool, every time I see a cool JAPANESE Bike it always reminds me of a fuji bike poster that was with a good looking blond cyclist standing with the bicycle, anyone knows of this poster, been looking for this poster for nearly 20 years.
I had a custom built track frame built by a U.S. builder and it was twitchy as well after a few years of riding on the road well before the fixie era I had it converted to a road bike by the original builder, he added all the needed braze-on and modified the hanger so it could accept a rear mech end result a total beast and it was a blast to ride, on curvy down hill runs it absolutely carved up the road way and yes there was major toe wheel over lap but I never had any problems at all. When other cyclist would look at it they thought I was some kind of a nut case riding this thing on the road.

That Panasonic frame is made with Kaisei tubing which is the good stuff. We need more NJS goodness on youtube, is it possible we could get a proper bike check on it? Also, that Affinity bike Jazz was riding is lovely one of my best friends has the same color.

@@AndreasIhm forget about the demand. Most people don’t know what they want until they get it, often times needed to be spoon fed something to realize how nice it is and how much they enjoy it. Do the bike check! We need more track bike and NJS content on this site

Those are 25c. I think true njs tubulars are 19-20c

@@tongalizia3175 it will be a good easy gear to start riding in the streets. For velodrome usage, you might want to go for a 15

It would be considered as a 55cm.
NJS frame size is a well regulated thing.

@@aquilonianace4791 true. I didnt get the chance to practice with someone elses collection bike. And it wont happen. It was a one time thing and I feel lucky that nothing happened to the bike.
Also, there are no warm up periods before competition on the track, and I live 8 hours away from that facility.
It was a unique opportunity and I had to live with the results.

They basically rode these bikes globally - for decades - until alloy came along, then carbon. Not sure why it seems so foreign to you, purpose built track bike on a track?
