The books are very different to the TV series, racier and darker. In the second book, there was a long sequence where Reggie was accused of being a sex offender, and the Grot shops only became a success because the locals were sorry for Reggie when the actual offender was caught.
I read the first book years ago. And wow were things toned down or cut. I remember I sold it to a used book store. And the employee who was going through my pile was thrilled to see it.
as of 2015, Sue Nicholls, Bruce Bould, Geoffrey Palmer, Sally Jane Spencer Tim Preece and Theresa Watson are the 6 surviving cast members from The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin.
Sadly, this edition of Comedy connections on The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin, was to be the last television appearance of John Barron, who died 3 weeks before broadcast.
I didn't get where I am today without knowing John Barron was in the children's show Timesip. , neither Mrs CJ or I didn't realise the importance of knowing John Barron was in the children's show Timesip
Trevor Adam's final years were heartbreaking to read about....and the information that's out there about him not being available to do the reunion episodes is complete rubbish . The poor guy actually needed that job so badly.....he even gave an interview to The Mirror in 1996 (about two weeks before those episodes aired) outlining his struggles with alcohol, how he had been fired from his law firm and lost custody of his children. Sounds like he regretted his decision to quit acting and become a solicitor as it was far too stressful.....
laughed my hole off at the catchphrases and hippo as a kid and teenager, it's only now i realise how desperately sad reggie was and how dark a comedy it was
True, it was ultimately a public information film warning us about the horrors of middle-age. Makes you wish you were a kid again and just enjoying it for laughs!
hellochicago2 I would like to be a kid but not in today's climate of non stop testing at the age of 7 etc and no future on this country but finding a time machine and going bsck to the early 1980s...
Gavin Paisley Ditto did the same as a kid. Lucky that even at 42 I have no aims to be like that but doing what I feel like even if people do not approve
The BBC undoubtedly has cancelled it for the scene where Perrin fantasizes about ravishing his secretary on her desk while she kicks her legs comedically. Perhaps it could be played with the offending scene excised, but I suspect there are other non-PC moments I've forgotten.
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin doesn't come close to Rising Damp. It's an interesting idea but as a comedy the first two series are amusing rather than funny. The show should have ended there with Reggie and his wife going off together as Mr and Mrs Gossamer because the third series is dreadful from start to finish.

I personally do yes . Granted series 3 was by far the weaker but it certainly wasn’t unfunny by any stretch . We are all a bit different I guess fella , all the best
When I watched this as a kid, Reggie was just funny. Watching now as a working adult, I realise how relatable he is too.
